Indie Film: Manhattan

Great friends of mine have founded a production company called Element 35. They just finished shooting their first full length film called, Manhattan.

The film is an (un)romantic comedy about a man living in Manhattan, New York who has the worst day of his life and decides to move back to his boyhood home of Manhattan, Kansas to write a novel.

Element 35 debuted the first trailer for the film today:

I'm really proud of these guys and I want to share their work with as many folks as possible. If you like what you see please feel free to share and spread the word.

Oh wow . . . it's in black and white, so I bet it's suuuper artistic and creative.

It's an homage to the Woody Allen film.

I was mostly kidding. It actually looks interesting. Hopefully there's a plot.

I hope it's good. They kept me pretty much in the dark about the whole thing. I shot one quick 20 sec scene for the film. Beyond that, I know as much as anyone else.

But it seems like there's a real journey there. But E35 has done was weird stuff in the past. We'll see.

I'm just proud of them for doing it all on their own dime and actually finishing the thing. It's a pretty impressive feat.

I like the park bench scenery shot. Straight shot ripoff from Woody's Manhattan.

Yeah, it's a great shot.

I asked them how much of the film was stealing from Allen's film. They told me that they considered this movie a reply to that one, or a continuing of the same conversation.

So there are a few nice Allen references throughout.

Yeah, not very subtle references either, judging from the preview. ;)

No, I think the movie is wearing it's heart (and it's influences) on its sleeve.

Should have casted Don Logan as the lead IMO

The trailer has a kind of Wes Anderson vibe...

It's neat that I recognized just about all the local Manhattan locations in the trailer. Film looks kinda artsy reeruned though.
