How many girlfriends/boyfriends have you had?

I saw a clickbait thing that mentioned that Jerry Seinfeld had 73 different girlfriends on his show, and this was presented as being unrealistic.

How many girlfriend/boyfriends have you had in your life?

The rules:

We're not talking about people that you've gone on dates with, or people that you've stalked. This is not people you've woken up next to after a night of absinthe and ecstasy. We're also not talking about that weird but kind of hot way that women talk about female friends as "their girlfriend" when they're really just going to the mall together.

We're talking about people that you've dated for long enough that you would refer to the person in conversation as your girlfriend/boyfriend, and they would do the same. You would drink from the same straw as them. That sort of thing.

007 07-15-2019 11:37 PM

Girlfriends - less than my username
Girls dated - more than my username

I would say that I'm at three. One in high school, one in college and shortly after, and one as an adult (who I married). There was one other one just before the wifely one that I went on a few dates with, but we didn't really like each other that much and were just bored, so I wouldn't count her.

mcknzAlex 07-16-2019 12:01 AM

Just one, and we are still together up until now.

I had two serious girlfriends, the second of which I married. Two other girlfriends that last more than a couple months. The rest were just casual dates that went nowhere.

eDave 07-16-2019 12:51 AM

Define "girlfriend".

TimBone 07-16-2019 01:00 AM

Only five that I would call girlfriends by the standards mentioned.

I began dating my wife at 19 though, so each girlfriend lasted on average a year.

rico 07-16-2019 01:23 AM

5...

They lasted 1.5 years, 11 months, 1.5 years, 4.5 years, and 12 years. I’ve spent a lot of my life having a girlfriend/wife considering I’m 36.

This. There were really only 3 women I dated longer than the 2-4 weeks time frame when I was single. There were women I "dated" on and off again for years but that was more of a friends with benefits thing whenever we were both single.

Edit: By Rainman-rules I guess 3.

At 12 years is that still considered a g/f? I mean, if you're not married you're technically single, so I guess it does...

I checked the wrong box. Should be 16-20.

loochy 07-16-2019 05:05 AM

To me, it's weird to have had a lot of girlfriends. Only the best of the best get made into girlfriends. It's important to make a distinction between girlfriends, girls dated, and sexual partners.

Shaid 07-16-2019 06:19 AM

My first date with my wife was my Junior Prom, she was a sophomore at the time. That was 25 years ago. She's the only one I'd consider as having been my girlfriend. Dated her for 6 years before we got married.

3 following Rainman's guidelines. My high school sweetheart who found God after about 2.5 years then married another guy with the same first name as me, my 1st wife who died of CF almost 30 years ago and my common-law wife who I have been with for 22+ years now. I've "known" several more but it seems like I was always the nice guy who had lots of female friends but not very many of liked me "that way".

More small numbers than I'd have expected from this group of Casanova's with 12 inch johnsons...

3. About 6 months, about 9 months and now a hair over 20 years. Gotta catch 'em too young and stupid to know they could do better, gents.

Apart from the 2 girls I datet prior to my Junior Prom, this is pretty much a carbon copy of me. First date wasn't even the junior prom, though - it was the afterprom party for my junior prom because I had broken up with the girl prior to her a couple weeks previously and had been friendly with her for several months so I didn't want to try to force a short notice prom date (she was a soph so hadn't been making plans for it). Dated my Senior year, 4 years of college, 1 year of law school and then got married.

Casanovas with 12 inch johnsons don't have "girlfriends"

They have "encounters"

It's complicated because it was the late 60s and sometimes 2 or 3 at once was groovy. But based on the rules, I went with 6. I met my wife at 20 and have been with her since.

burt 07-16-2019 08:25 AM

Yeah, shoulda read the OP before voting. I've only had 7 to 10 "girlfriends". Fortunately, I adhere to the CP definition....LOTS of conquests. BUT it really wasn't my fault.

I worked at Worlds of Fun for several years. Back then, lot's of "the popular" people did. Imagine 3000 seasonal employees, 1/2 of which were female and just out from under mommy and daddies thumb... Then College, then the restaurant industry. I regret very few......

threebag 07-16-2019 08:46 AM

If I’m holding her down and I remove my hand from her mouth and she doesn’t scream does that count as a girlfriend?

Also, what about the ones that wake up all droggie, a bad taste in their mouth and panties around their ankles?

Meh, getting laid post breakup hasn't been the issue. It's more a lack of feelings that's the problem. What's the point of being vulnerable with people when they'll just ****ing let you down eventually. I'd rather not even bother.

4 girlfriends.

The one before my current wife I dated 4 years from age 19-23. When she wanted to settle down and have kids at 23 I said "**** no" and ended that.

Did have a kid until 32. Best decision of my life. I thank God the younger me wasn't dumb.

People who are married high school sweethearts literally blow my mind. I have no idea how that even happens.

Six as actual boyfriends meaning in a relationship that's fairly long-term and exclusive; 7 mos min or longer by a year or more starting from age 16. ( My first infatuation that I thought was love) Not counting people I dated for a short time or on/off.

I was struggling to define the term, and that's an interesting topic in an of itself. For simplicity, I'll use the term 'girlfriend' below, but it could apply to either.

"Girlfriend" implies a romantic relationship, though that doesn't necessarily have to be a sexual relationship.

"Girlfriend" implies some length or duration of the relationship, but it doesn't have to be long. Maybe it's more about intensity, so it's not just 'this girl I had a date with'.

To many, 'girlfriend' would imply some exclusivity, but that's not necessarily ironclad. A person could conceivably have two girlfriends if they're okay with the deal. (Or if they don't know, then it still implies some exclusivity on the female's part, right?)

"Girlfriend" implies familiarity. It means that you're past the point of dressing to impress as a requirement, even if you still do it. And it implies that you know each other well enough that you can use this honorific as a title.

"Girlfriend" implies a preference. She's your default date to the movies on Friday and you're hers.

Agree? Disagree? The definition may be changing over time, too, and it's been a long time since I've had to consider my own use of the term. So maybe I'm out of date.

BucEyedPea 07-17-2019 09:52 AM

That's overcomplicated as !@#$.

Have you ever stood alongside her and introduced her to anyone of importance as 'my girlfriend...'

If no, she's not. If yes, she is.

It takes a fair amount of understanding between the parties involved to get to holding each other out as boyfriend/girlfriend. You don't do it in front of her if you haven't gotten there yet. And if you won't do it yet, it don't count.

Skyy God 07-17-2019 10:38 AM

Sure, but what about situations where a chick refers to you as her boyfriend but you don't reciprocate with friends/family. Failure by a guy to acknowledge a relationship doesn't necessarily negate the seriousness of one.

I don't agree.

If you won't call her your girlfriend, then she's just some chick you're dating for a bit.

And if she calls you her boyfriend when you're around and you keep calling her your friend when she's around, you'll find out real fast that the dating thing isn't long for this world.

You're simply at the precipice of the 'girlfriend/not a girlfriend' decision at that point. You can start calling her a girlfriend and she'll keep dating you, or you can continue to call her 'my pal' and get curbed. Your choice says plenty about the relationship status.

Why do you ask?

I had to think about this one and I was about to say 2. Strange, my ex-wife wasn't registering. I guess I was blocking that part of my relationship history out. Had to go with 3 real girlfriends but back in my younger days I did sow many wild oats.

I dated a German chick for a summer in the late 90's. And I can't figure out if she would qualify as a girlfriend or not.

So, I'm at a night club that plays things like RATM, Ice Cube, Fatboy Slim, etc... I'm there with buddies drinking beer for the purpose of inebriation. The club had closed for the night and on my way down the stairs to the exit, this 6 foot, slender, chestnut brown haired girl grabbed my hand. As we held hands down the stairs, I said "Hello", she replied, in a thick German accent, "pretend you're my boyfriend, this guys been bothering me all night".

We exited the club and some Asian dude looked me up and down and left. It seemed I'd served my purpose. I asked her if she wanted to get a coffee, she agreed and we spent the a few hours talking. We exchanged numbers, I gave her a kiss that she was taken aback by, (I was hoping it was because she wasn't used to being kissed so quickly after meeting someone rather than my beer and cigarette breath).

At any rate, it turns out she was a Nanny for some rich family in a nice area of town and she only had 3 months until she had to go back to Germany. We went out almost every night to different restaurants, bars, underground parties etc... She became a member of my circle of friends including the broads. We were exclusive as far as I could tell, (I don't know where she would have found the time).

Not too long into it we became intimate. I won't get into details other than the fact that she had a dense bush. I'm not talkin' big ole nasty unkempt bush, which you might expect from a European girl. It was well trimmed but dense, like a brillo pad. There were no abrasions or injury to my johnson but I've always thought it was unusual.
I may have said too much...

Eventually, the day came where she had to leave. We said our goodbyes and never spoke again.

Was that a girlfriend or just someone I was dating?

cooper barrett 07-17-2019 07:44 PM

Let’s just call that the lovely experience it was.

You were used, you should feel guilty, ashamed, and most of all you're still confused about it 30 years later.

IMHO if you are ****ing Ms Piggy for a few weeks and you're out together in public, she's a girlfriend. I would like to try that one sometime 'i'm leaving in 75 days, Do with me as you will"

How did you categorize her when you cranked up Rosie by Jackson Brown and rubbed one out after she was gone?, Did you miss a cum bucket or a girlfriend?

How do you let something just get on a plane and fly back to Germany without some action, form of communication, really, just "It was fun" on your part. come to think of it, were you using her or was she using you as I said initially?

Don't be confused, it the "dating' that's confusing. I think you call that a **** buddy relationship and there is nothing wrong with that.

I had one like that, off and on, for a couple of years, she would show up at my job sites with just a text "u there?" spent 2-3 hours having sex and then it was back to her other life. Upon asking why she chose me it was because she didn't want someone trying to get into her real life of raising 2 teenagers, quietly trying to find a husband to take care of her financially when the well to do ex quit paying child support.

I was never really confused by the arrangement, as dating it certainly was not. She had the best set of tits I ever laid my hands on. 5' 1/2" with 36d's that defied gravity after 2 kids. At first I swore they were fake so I spent a long time with them

So, I'm at a night club that plays things like RATM, Ice Cube, Fatboy Slim, etc... I'm there with buddies drinking beer for the purpose of inebriation. Wow, between Cave and Cooper, those were 2 vastly different responses.
I like Cave's because it's warm and fuzzy.
However, I get the point of Cooper's with the exception of feeling guilty and ashamed.
"**** buddy" seems to be an accurate definition. We used one another and had fun within a time frame.
BTW - I started "dating" a University girl with the biggest titties I've ever come in contact with shortly after she left, so that kind of softened the blow and took my mind off of things.
