Dexter (Showtime)

Anyone watch this show?

I was bored and watched all three episodes that have been aired so far on OnDemand. I actually think the show is pretty damn good so far, I like the character a lot.

keg in kc 10-20-2006 11:25 PM

I caught it while I was making masters for one of my shows last week, really think it's good, although Weeds is still my showtime show.

KcMizzou 10-20-2006 11:48 PM

Yeah... Dexter kicks ass... as does Weeds. Showtime has some really good programing now.

I've got a thing for the lead in Weeds... just somthin' about her.

carlos3652 10-21-2006 01:39 AM

this show is amazing... showtime has some really good shows to compete vs Hbo at the moment...

DeepPurple 10-21-2006 09:34 AM

I had Showtime for $5 a month for the past year and it just expired and I kept it for the regular price just so I could watch Dexter. HBO's "Six Feet Under" was the only regular episodic show that I followed every week since Seinfeld went off the air. I've seen all 63 shows at least twice so every actor from that series, in this case it's Michael C. Hall, I try and see what they'll do next. My wife and I have caught all three Dexter's on Tuesdays at 9:00 in hi-def.

I was curious to see how Michael C. Hall would pull of this role since his character on SFU was so different as the gay brother. I noticed his hair is darker and he doesn't shave and has a more rugged look. I like the actress that plays his girlfriend and the hispanic actor that plays the cop with the hat, I'm not as happy with some of the other casting. The actress that plays his dipsy sister or the black police woman are not what I would of chosen but I think maybe their characters will grow on me.

The next SFU actor I'm waiting to see is Peter Krause who played the main character of Nate finished a movie last year called "Civic Duty". It's about a average guy that suspects his middle-eastern neighbor as being a terrorist. At some of the film festivals in New York back in the spring it received excellent reviews but I heard it's not coming out until January 2007.

...and Weeds is a definite must-watch.
Any show that can get Kevin Nealon just being Kevin Nealon, and also have a scene like this below(BRILLIANT!!!) has my attention.
My favorite Showtime show, Huff, has apparently been cancelled (according to Baby lee, I haven't bothered to look it up). But Showtime is definitely putting out some quality shows.

I love this show, and it is getting really hot now. You know they are gonna leave us hanging (excuse the pun) in a couple of weeks when the season finale airs. I don't really watch TV, but I wait for this show to come on.

I've loved her since Fried Green Tomatoes, which also sported Mary Stuart Masterson, who I had a crush on since Some Kind of Wonderful.

On a related note, Annabeth Gish has held up well over the years as well

Oh, and off more prurient interests, I can't wait for Dexter to come to DVD.

I cant wait either. I have so many friends who don have Showtime. I want to get the DVD, so they can get into this show, so I have someone else to talk to about it.

<i>I can't wait for Dexter to come to DVD</i>

I've been downloading it with bit torrents. I'm typically an episode behind but what the heck.

Where are you downloading it? Limewire?

I've done one with limewire. The rest with bittorrents. Do a google on 'dexter bittorrent'. You should find lots of hits.

Interesting. I really don't have any ideas. I was like that last season, knew who the Ice Cream Truck Killer was before it was revealed.

Sully 12-06-2007 12:49 PM

Last season seemed too obvious.
The ending this season isn't obvious, but if you are trying, you can figure it out.
That said, it's a great ride.

Carlota69 12-06-2007 01:01 PM

Without a doubt, this is my favorite TV show ever! I have never looked forward to a show as much as I do Dexter in my life. I can watch the episodes over and over too. And I dont watch a lot of TV except sports and movies. I dont watch regular TV shows at all, except Dexter. I heard the 3rd season has been ordered. Thankfully.

Alright!! For once a show I love will make it to a third season. My enjoyment of a show has tended to spell disaster for a series. I absolutely loved Freaks and Geeks and it got canned in a hurry. Loved Twin Peaks, same deal, although I suspect this was a good thing in that instance as I'm not sure it could have sustained itself story wise. I don't love a show very often, and I'm so glad one is finally popular enough to be sustained.

Oh, Greg the Bunny too.

The last 2 episodes got leaked out. I wouldn't say it's a totally surprising episode, but the writers did a great job again. They may actually have topped season 1.

I don't think the editing would really take out that much. Most of the killing scenes don't involve the camera focusing on the actual stabbing or cutting involved in what he does.

It is kind of like a built in DVR with timewarner, they have a couple dozen channels including TMC,HBO,SHO,MAX that have shows/movies stored for you to watch by just hitting play...

Great feature especially since I do not have a DVR box in my room..

So went to my grandma's church for their Christmas show..

A: I don't like her church..
B: not a fan of organized religion(im'a deist...)
C: Only went to make my grandma happy

Well why there was an intermission and they had Christmas music playing over the broadcast, it kept being interrupted by some other signal or someone playing with the broadcast booth..

Kept cutting out too.. "Dexter is the Bay Harbor..." "Dexter".........then back to Christmas music..

My family could not figure out why I was literally lol...

Poor motherfuckin' James Doakes. He provided me with some of greatest LOL moments I can remember watching TV (Masuka as well). The guy had some classic lines.

"You owe me a new Michelin, mother****er!"

(When talking about the stepfather accused of bludgeoning his stepdaughter by the pool)

"I'ma break that one who sucks the penis today."

Great character, and I'll miss him :(. Goddamned divers just had to look for treasure :cuss:

It will be interesting to see where they go for season 3. IIRC, there were only two books. Hopefully they don't falter now that they are going "off script" so to speak.

They'll pretty much have to edit out all of Doakes' scenes, and cut 10 minutes off of each episode. There's never a lot of gore (save for the Marina View Hotel), so that should be ok. It's the nudity and copious f-bombs they'll have to cut.

ChiefsFan4Life 01-13-2008 07:00 PM

I was actually pissed when I saw it was coming to CBS because now I am worried about all the people that are going to say "So, I watched it on TV and it wasn't THAT great" because of the lame censoring that's going to take place.

You're ruining your experience by watching it if you watch it on CBS instead of on DVD. Especially for a character like Doakes ... watching him censored will be extremely lame

I haven't seen it on CBS either, but considering the subject matter, the show isn't really that violent or gory. There's a few moments I can recall that might make a wuss squeamish, but it's not like you see him cutting into people all the time.

The main thing is the bad words. I find it hard to believe that Dexter's sister gets any lines on the CBS version, since every other word she says is usually a curse.

I caught one of the episodes and removing the foul language from characters like Doakes or his sister really hurts the show. Doakes can be pretty damn funny but most of his good lines are probably removed.

I downloaded the entire second season from Mininova. All the episodes were 720p and had 5.1 audio. But if you don't have a HTPC, that doesn't do you much good.

I seriously sat down and watched the entire second season in one day. It was that good.

I seriously sat down and watched the entire second season in one day. It was that good.

And I was that worthless.

Agreed. I started out watching the first season last week. It honestly took me 3 or 4 episodes to really get into it. As good as the first season was, the second season blew it away. I can't wait to get my hands on the third.

I find it funny finding old posts by me and thinking "must of been drunk again."

I don't know if I could really rank the seasons. I just rewatched S1 and S2 after finishing 3.

1 and 3 are kind of like the first and third Star Wars movies. A little more upbeat and entertaining. The second is much darker and introspective in an Empire Strikes Back kind of way.

I will say that the writers have done a phenomenal job with Dexter's character arc. It's been a dialectical process, vacillating from Harry's code to Lila's proselytizing from S1 to S2 and then finding his way back home after S3, all the while mirroring the evolution of his own identity.
