1. Much different lake
2. They already have a second season out on that one [added Nicole Kidman and Gwendoline Christie [Brienne of Tarth]].
3. I never could make it through season 1, but Peter Mullan was nails in Quarry.

even my wife said she couldn't make it thru season 1. i on the other hand (pun intended due to my injury at the time) had no choice. i ended up liking it, but it was weird.

watching the 'ozark' trailer, it gave off a similar vibe.

Buehler445 05-28-2017 06:01 PM

I can't believe they dropped the F bomb in a trailer. Looks pretty good. I'm in.

And I'm no Ozarks guy. The movie looks good.

IM CALLIN BULLSHIT

I knew a guy who killed two cops and tried to hide up there.

SPOILER: it's not a great place to hide...

Nickhead 07-22-2017 07:55 AM

i am 8 episodes in, and the show is great.
Spoiler!
marty's daughter creeps me out. looks like she should have starred in 'to the bones'.

Spoiler!

ROFL one of the boys' name is 'Three' ROFL

this show has a very 'breaking bad' vibe to it. i give this first season a 9 out of 10! :D

KCUnited 07-22-2017 08:27 PM

On ep. 3 and there's waaay too much Bateman happening. I'll likely finish it but this is like Andy Reid calling plays and playing QB.

MTG#10 07-23-2017 09:13 AM

Watched 3 episodes last night, not the greatest but I'll keep watching. It really irritates me how in any show/movie about the Ozarks every single local is portrayed as a back-woods hillbilly and/or meth-head reerun. Literally every single one.

Those types are an extreme minority. They're out here for sure, but its not every damn person like portrayed in Hollywood.

ChiefsCountry 07-23-2017 04:17 PM

I think its funny the area of the Lake that they are suppose to be at is far from backwood rednecks. Good show. Some of the area was displayed right, pretty cool seeing and hearing my hometown area names and some of the legends on tv.

KCUnited 07-23-2017 04:40 PM

I think they've captured the perception of the Ozarks from everyone who lives outside of the Ozarks. Props to y'all if it's not accurate.

Simply Red 07-23-2017 04:56 PM

Will binge watch.

Not saying it's not true there is still backwood people, but its like saying the perception of Chicago is the South Side.

Exactly. No point in crying about perception when everyone in the world is guilty of having one.

KCUnited 07-23-2017 05:20 PM

Also, the portrayal of Chicago in this is off as no one here would even entertain an Ozarks brochure right next to lake Michigan :D

DaveNull 07-23-2017 05:55 PM

i thought it was fine. It seemed to be a show that couldn't decide whether it was going to be funny like Weeds or more dark like Breaking Bad and was wildly inconsistent between the episodes.

Silock 07-24-2017 08:30 PM

Bingeing now. I like it.

I don't think his name is actually Three. At one point in Ep. 3, Ruth says "Is 3 fightin' 2 again" or something to that effect. I think one is "... Langmore, Junior (aka II)" and the other "... Langmore, III."

I realize his credit on IMDB is "Three," but I think that's just all they call him, so we don't really know his name.

lewdog 07-31-2017 06:34 PM

Loving this show here. 2 episodes in.

Has a modern day Deliverance feel to it.

I'm only two episodes in, so I can't say for certain.

But the entire family who took the money smells a whole lot like sexual tension amongst relatives.

OR

before three was born, the game was 'is 1 fighting with two again? or two is fighting with 1 again' they then decided to name the third, three? :D

do you feel the tension between bateman and the pub owner he is 'rescuing' from debt? :D

Agreed, and we finished it in 3 days. Was definitely good, to no surprise.

Really didn't expect

Spoiler!

Buehler445 08-09-2017 07:20 PM

I watched it. It was pretty decent. They went down a lot of roads they couldn't get paid off. Maybe they'll do it in later seasons but they ate up a lot of scenes with not contributing much to the story.

Showing Marty's initial dealings with Del was good. As was Wendy not getting a job.

But what the **** was with showing Petty's mom being a crackhead? Sure it shows he is tortured or whatever, but it didn't really correlate to him being driven. Same with the preacher freaking out at the end. What good was that?

Then Rachel bailing with some money felt like an afterthought.

It was pretty tight early then it got kind of sloppy. It seems like they had a good idea got it out then were like now what?

But that's all pretty menial. The acting was pretty good across the board, especially Julia Garner. There was some wonky math on the laundering. There's no way they got the 8 M in AND out of those 2 little places. But overall a pretty good watch.

Dude. Did you watch? Most of the main characters from the area were not.

Rachel is definitely not.

Jacob may look and sound like a hillbilly but he was very intelligent and business savvy.

Ruth lived like trash but she wasn't a backwoods hillbilly. She was damned sharp too.

So then what? You're looking at the moron Langmore brothers. That's 2-5. Not very damned much.

Backwoods hillbilly's can be intelligent, sharp and business savvy. Almost every local...main character or not...was portrayed as a backwoods hillbilly and/or white trash. If you didn't notice it I dont know what to tell you.

I just wasn't very impressed with the show. It could have been so much better. Good idea but the sloppy writing ruined it for me.

Because they have southern accents? WTF dude?

There is absolutely nothing about Jacob that makes him backwoods or hillbilly.

And if they are hillbilly or trash they are BY DEFINITION not intelligent, sharp or savvy.

lewdog 08-10-2017 05:28 PM

Absolutely no way the characters in the show represent typical people around the area.

I bet 90% of the people in that area are more hillbilly and dumb than the "locals" in this show.

Yep, it is like they stopped by and filmed a few things around the Ozarks- like the statue of Big Chief, but the rest of the area looks off to me. Why not film there? I laughed when Marty kept sleeping outside- in the Ozarks - no tent or mosquito netting- yep, sure thing.

I am just 4 shows in, I like it so far, but it is a bit far-fetched. How is Marty going to wash 500 million through 2 businesses? Also, the flaming gay FBI is just too weird. Did they have to put the gay blowjob in there- he is the law but paying males hookers?

I will probably finish the series, but it seems to be falling apart already.

BTW- Wendy should have gone off the balcony with her lover. She is annoying.

She's that jackass in jails daughter living with her uncles Boyd and Russ. Wyatt and Three are brothers I think and they belong to Russ.

Finished it up and would give it a B- for a grade. Nice concept and entertaining, but so many holes in the story. The writing could have been much tighter, seems they were making shit up on the fly. Jason Bateman is a robot.

I liked Ruth and the old man in the basement the best. Hopefully, season 2 will be better.

I agree with most of this. I think Bateman is doing a good job though. he's a smooth talker fo sho!

no idea if spoilers needed but I just left GOT thread....hahahaha

Spoiler!

the guy in the basement is a scene stealer. it was driving me nuts....who is he...why do I recognize him. googled. he was the cop in Scarface who Pacino shot in the gut. he was all....you can't shoot me! I'm a cop! hahaha

Stephen King stated that he is following the show and likes the black humor undertones...."I'm hooked on OZARK. There's an undercurrent of black humor running through it that makes it special."

Guess I need to watch it again...
