How is a tree being eaten by beetles ironic? How is it really contrary to expectations? It happens all the time. Hell, I've had to cut down and burn several dead trees at my old man's house cos of beetles and parasites.

It's a coincidence that it happened to a tree planted for a guy who was in a band called the beatles. I don't see the irony, but sometimes situational irony can be subjective.
