Star Wars: Rogue One

Separate movie, separate thread. o:-)

Star Wars ‏@starwars 3h3 hours ago

A band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans in Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One.

ROGUE ONE is about the reality of war, the moral grey area between the good and bad guys.

Gareth Edwards: real, subjective, and very grey theme leading to black and white of ANH. Complicated, layered. Picture of commandos shown.

Peter Sciretta ‏@slashfilm 3h3 hours ago
Felicity Jones will play a rebel soldier.

Rebels Report ‏@RebelsReport 3h3 hours ago
Felicity plays a rebel soldier. Real person with flaws. Fear, humour, warmth and Felicity will demonstrate this

TheForce.Net ‏@theforcenet 3h3 hours ago
Edwards calls Felicity "the complete package." She was a SW fan and "dropped everything to come onboard.

Very interesting. No mention of bounty hunters. It sounds like more of a paramilitary operation but Felicity Jones character must be someone of importance.

DaneMcCloud 04-19-2015 01:45 PM

Oh yeah, still no word on Josh Trank's Star Wars movie. It's supposed to release May 2017 so some details should be released fairly soon, I would think.

Apparently he has a coke problem and no-showed at the panel today.

IN.

This sounds promising.

Edwards was recommended as director by a number of people, and they were impressed by his reverence for Star Wars. Edwards said he was so exhausted from making Godzilla that he hoped he would hate the idea, but when he read it and got to the end he said, “Oh ****.” Edwards said, “I couldn’t sit in a cinema and know someone else made this film.”

Man I had lost some of my passion for Star Wars but between this, the Force Awakens trailer, and the Battlefront reveal I'm fully ****ing back in 100%.

This week has really rejuvenated my love for the series...

Silock 04-19-2015 10:28 PM

I never lost any love, but before this week, I didn't think it was possible for me to get any more geeked about Star Wars. I was WAY wrong.

Is Star Wars, porn for geeks? I've seen the original 3 but none of the newer 3. Just seems the magic wore off once I became involved with pussy.

First R rated Star Wars flick? A gritty "Platoon" style war flick set in the SWU?

I'm in!

There is exactly zero chance this gets an R rating.

DaneMcCloud 05-16-2015 10:59 AM

Great cast with Diego Luna, Felicity Jones and Ben Mendelsohn as the antagonist (who I think is likely to be Tarkin).

Will Riz Ahmed be a Clone War soldier or even Boba Fett?

DaneMcCloud 08-15-2015 02:44 PM

Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen and Alan Tudyk joined the cast.

I wonder if Alan will play a CGI character, as he's quite an accomplished voice actor as well?

DaneMcCloud 08-15-2015 04:57 PM

No more "Anthology" in the title.

They're being referred to as "A Star Wars Story" moving forward.

That would certainly give his character far more weight

Almost as excited about this as the EPVII. I really like the whole Firefly, band of misfits, caper style that we got with Rebels. This looks like it might be somewhat similar.

Star Wars is just going to absolutely take over Hollywood the next 7-10 years. Can't wait.

Not just Star Wars. Disney. Between Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios they may end up with 5 or more of the top 10 all time grossers, depending on what Cameron does with Avatars 2-4.

I doubled my investment in Disney.

Can't wait to see the $$$$$$$ flow in.

Peter Cushing Will be Digitally Recreated for Rogue One

Quote:

Cushing, star of many Hammer House of Horror movies, will be digitally recreated in the new Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, which is being filmed at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and is due to be released late next year.

In the original 1977 Star Wars, Cushing played evil Grand Moff Tarkin, commander of the Death Star and ‘boss’ of Darth Vader.

In the new film Cushing, who died of prostate cancer aged 81, will be painstakingly brought back to life using the latest Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) techniques.

A source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘This is one of the most complex and costly CGI re-creations ever. Cushing is a pivotal plot line as he was the one to create Darth Vader and there’s a whole back story that will come out.’

But the film-makers face one particularly tough task – creating Cushing’s legs and feet.

When director George Lucas filmed the original Star Wars, he gave Cushing and other Galactic Imperial officers ill-fitting leather riding boots. Cushing complained so bitterly that Lucas let him wear slippers, forcing cameramen to shoot from the knees up or have him stand behind the Death Star conference table.

‘They are going through hours and hours of old footage from the horror movies to recreate his legs and feet to produce realistic movements,’ said the source. ‘It is eerie to see someone who has been dead for so long come to life on a screen.’

I don't buy this report for one second.

Tarkin was clearly portrayed by an actor in ROTS and the expense versus phony VFX aren't worth the money or the trouble. People will have no problem buying into a new actor's portrayal of Tarkin, just as they don't have an issue with Rebels. Plus, it would be opening Pandora's Box if Tarkin is to appear in any other Star Wars movies.

Plus, Ben Mendelsohn looks close enough to Tarkin and he's been cast in an unspecified role.

DaneMcCloud 08-26-2015 12:41 PM

Mads Mikkelson on Rogue One:

"It is very important role, that's as much as I can say. No, my character is actually not a bad guy, and then I can not say more. I can also say that the movie will be shot in Iceland and England. And the filming will last for three months."
