Worked there when I was a kid, still like the taste of the chicken but damn they have to be the most expensive fast food restaurant in America...

They used to have decent sized pieces of chicken now they are small...


Anybody else notice? Probably most of you won't eat the shit right?

Very slow service at times. They also run out of certain items. Sides are subpar.

They are ok, but i prefer Churchs and Popeyes nowdays.

BTW, alot of Fast Food has gotten expensive. You can spend 7 or 8 bucks on a meal at McDonalds. Thats nearly as much as an Applebees or Chilis meal.

Yeah it use to be good. I still like the famous bowls. We eat there probably about 3 times a year though.


We have a southern place here called J's Place best chicken and waffle joint in town. We go there if we want fried chicken. I go for the greens and fried cabbage.

Truth.

KFC and Popeye's have pretty much priced themselves out of all sanity, so I don't go to them anymore. If I need a fast food chicken fix, Chick-Fil-A is my destination of choice.

Easy to make at home.

Can't eat there no more. But they are expense.

The qaulity difference of food from one KFC to another is far greater than the quakity differnce to be found at other chains, in my experience.

You definitely need a coupon to make KFC competitive in the marketplace. Otherwise it's stupid expensive for what it is.

And yes, the pieces have gotten smaller. It's been quite a while since I've eaten there, but I was wondering if it was pigeon pieces.

Worked there for a winter as a kid too. The whole freaking place was a grease trap.

I avoid KFC like LJS.

Back in the day I used to order their chicken fried platters which were like on sale on Tuesdays for super cheap.

No more of that shit now though.

I like both KFC & Popeyes. Popeyes mashed potatoes & gravy is the bomb

Yea when I was a kid and worked there it was the oil change that made the difference in the taste of the chicken...

Back in the day that big pressure cooker would hold 75 gallons of oil it seemed and they had a cool filtering process that actually took those burnt flour residue and caught it in this cloth filter and it hardened and looked like fudge in a pan... That is what the gravy is made out of..

The only thing I can stand at KFC is their slaw. When I'm smoking ribs, I will head over there and grab some of that at times. As far as their chicken, not my thing.

Love the taste of the original recipe but the last several times I had it, it seemed greasy. Cole slaw and gravy is good too.

Can't beat the $1.99 chicken fried steak dinner on Wednesdays.

They don't use Mayo in it, it is made with Miracle Whip, Sugar and Vinegar

If I'm going for a clogging my artery type of chicken fix then Popeye's is my choice.

Pretty bummed there are none in Topeka.

Really? Do you know how much of each so a guy might be able to knock out a batch. I would rather make it myself because the staff at the local KFC looks like Americas Most Wanted. I have a feeling they could give two shits about washing their hands after hitting the head. Anytime I can avoid playing fast food roulette, I'm on it.

This is Todd Wilburn's KFC cole slaw recipe. He's pretty good at nailing it. His Big Mac special sauce is spot on.

If you've ever seen a clone recipe for KFC Cole Slaw floating around on the Internet it probably looks like this. That's because this replica has become one of the most copied and pasted recipes from my first book, Top Secret Recipes. So, to stake claim to a recipe that's rarely sourced as a TSR original, here's the secret formula to clone the world's best slaw.

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup buttermilk
2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
8 cups finely chopped cabbage (about 1 head)
1/4 cup shredded carrot (1 medium carrot)
2 tablespoons minced onion

1. Be sure cabbage and carrots are chopped up into very fine pieces (about the size of rice).

2. Combine the mayonnaise, sugar, milk, buttermilk, lemon juice, vinegar, salt, and pepper in a large bowl and beat until smooth.

3. Add the cabbage, carrots, and onion, and mix well.

4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Serves 10 to 12.

I never go there anymore either. I don't know when they became so expensive, but it seemed like there was a time that place was fairly cheap.

Here is another recipe for the slaw, using Miracle Whip.

KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN COLESLAW

1/4 c. oil
1/4 c. tarragon vinegar
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. Miracle Whip
1 head cabbage, shredded
1 or 2 carrots, shredded
1 tsp. celery seeds

Mix first 5 ingredients together. Beat 10 minutes. Pour over cabbage. allow to sit at least two hours in the fridge or overnight for better result.

Try Hy-Vee, Price Chopper (Food Lion, Farm Fresh for you - too bad Winn Dixie is gone!!!). And you can take it home with a six-pack too....

Go chicken go ftw. Don't forget the gizzards and might as well just get a bottle of the go sauce

On a side note, what's up with the Frenchy flit boy "tarragon vinegar?" There is no way in hell that they use that in their run of the mill batch of KFC slaw. Correct me if I'm wrong R8ers.

They are too ****ing expensive but thats because they can get away with it. I like Popeyes and Church's wayyyyy better. Popeyes has the best Red Beans and Rice on earth.

Well, regular folks like us don't have access to the variety of chemicals and flavoring compounds that the food scientists at KFC have. The tarragon vinegar is probably meant to get close to something that you can't quite reproduce at home.

Hmm, I would imagine you're correct. I just couldn't see the wing wranglers at KFC slinging the tarragon.

That would explain why the gravey tastes like wall paper paste.

I was like 14 when I worked there and we would use a 50lb bag of cabbage to make it so the ingredients below besides the cabbage has to be in real small amounts


I remember Miracle whip , cabbage (a few dark green leaves for color) some onion, carrots , regular apple cider vinegar, Sugar... a little salt

That's what I figured.

I ate there as a kid with my grandfather on a regular basis, but haven't been to one in years. Somewhere around the time the chicken went from a nice and dry covering to a greasy mess they lost the occasional bucket for the game or family gathering business as well.

The local KFC went out of business a few years ago and I'm not sure anyone even complained.

I haven't eaten at a KFC in 20 years. Last time the skin and batter slid off like a goopy mess and the mac and cheese tasted awful.

I love Pollo Compero 1st and Popeye's 2nd if in the mood for fried chicken.

I'm a fan of KFC. I don't eat it very often from a health perspective and from a convenience perspective, but when I go there I'm like Winnie the Pooh with a honey pot.

I went to KFC last week.

Normally eat Popeyes because on Tuesday you can get 9 pieces dark or mixed for 4.99 no bullshit.

I like the original KFC recipe but **** a bucket is like 18.00 WTF?

Boston Market's pretty pricey, too. Had a 1/4 rotisserie chicken with two sides and a 16 oz Coke Zero for lunch and it was over $10.

Sure was good, though.

Ya I am not from the south. Tea isn't suppose to be sweet.

They have a buffet at the one here. $7.99 for all you can eat. It's -OK-, but they have some killer peach cobbler on the buffet :)
