Kevin Kolb to be cut

The regrettable Kevin Kolb era in Arizona is ending soon.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported the Cardinals expect to cut Kolb soon, according to two sources briefed on the situation.

"He won't be on the roster by this weekend," one source told Rapoport.

The timing of the news makes sense. Kolb is due a $2 million roster bonus on March 17 and he's due $9 million in base salary in 2013. The Cardinals made it clear that Kolb would have to take a significant pay cut to remain with the team. It sounds like that's not going to happen.

It's quite possible that the Cardinals simply decided that Kolb was not a fit for Bruce Arians' vertical offense. With Drew Stanton now in place after signing in free agency, the Cardinals now look comfortable enough at the quarterback position. They have Stanton, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Lindley and John Skelton on the roster. We'd expect Lindley or Skelton to be released and the Cardinals will probably add a quarterback in the draft.

Kolb's agents could push for a resolution shortly before the free agent market dries up. Matt Cassel was released Thursday, joining Ryan Fitzpatrick as the best free-agent quarterback availables. Kolb should be able to get a job as a backup somewhere, but he's come a long way from 2011, when the Cardinals gave up a second-round pick and cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to obtain him from the Philadelphia Eagles.

At that point, Kolb was paid like a potential "franchise quarterback." His struggles staying healthy and comfort in the pocket under former coach Ken Whisenhunt changed that perception, although Kolb never had great pass protection in Arizona.

Whisenhunt and former GM Rod Graves were ultimately fired because of the Kolb trade. Now it looks like Kolb will be fired, too.

Bills. Nix ****ed himself. What other choice does he have? They need to sell tickets and pray Geno is legit, otherwise Nix is done after this year. Should be no matter what.

But drew stanton said its his time to be a Starter for the cards. But If Bills want Geno then lets stock up on are picks. So if we make the trade swap picks and they give up another 1st next year and probably their 2nd pick and maybe a 3rd or 4th.

Maybe trading away the rights to Geno will be the best long term answer for the Chiefs. Maybe they can do what the Pats used to do by acquiring a 1st next year, and then continually trading that for a 2nd that year and 1st in the following year, continue ad infinitum.
