Did Vermeil trick us?

Former Eagles, Rams, and Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil reportedly had a role in bringing former Eagles coach Andy Reid to Kansas City. Now, Vermeil is trying to help replace Reid in Philly with another former NFL head coach.

“My choice would be Jon Gruden,” Vermeil told Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow of WIP radio, via Philly.com. “I just think he’s a helluva of football coach, and I don’t want him to make the mistake I made, to wait too long to go back. I just think he’s a helluva football coach and a great personality.”

Vermeil suggested action much stronger than the Eagles making a request that Gruden interview for the job.

“I’d do more than ask,” Vermeil said. “You know what I’d do? I’d get in a bus and take the bank with me.”

Vermeil is the second former Eagles employee to aggressively lobby for Gruden. Previously, former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski said that Gruden would be interested in the job, but that the Eagles had not yet contacted Gruden.

It’s unclear whether Gruden is playing any behind-the-scenes role in these public efforts to place him in Philly. But it’s believed that he’s ready to listen to NFL opportunities. And it’s apparent that, for now, no NFL opportunities are coming.

Whether he did or not, if we're taking a retread, we're likely better off with the one who's been coaching as opposed to the one calling games and doing studio shows.

Look at Chucky's drafts in Tampa and then you'll see why Reid was the better choice.

I listen to Gargano and Macnow every night on the way home from work. Gruden is the fans choice in Philly but sounds like the Eagles aren't as interested as the fan base.

He did do a good job with Rich and Raiders, but the flaming out in TB soured me on him. That and his Tebow man love should disqualify him for any future head coaching positions.

I dont want him to take a job this year so we can see Gruden QB camps

Cadillac was a great runner fresh out the gate. They just gave his ass, like, 800 carries in his first 8 games..

That was Bruce Allen, not Gruden.

Why do people insist that the head coach is choosing the players?

Kinda what I was thinking, but I think he does such a great job on TV, he should just stay there. I know it is hard for these football guys to stay away, but he really is perfect for TV.
