Revolution: JJ Abrams, SciFi, Post-Apocalypse
Sounds great right?
The only worry is that NBC is picking it up. http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/02/02/j-j-abrams-nbc/ Quote:

Sounds interesting. Hopefully it does not take too much of his attention away from the Star Trek sequel and Alcatraz.

No phone, no lights, no motor cars,
Not a single luxury, Like Robinson Crusoe, As primitive as can be. |
Network TV = no thanks.

At least they're currently filming. |
I don't think JJ's actually doing very much with these shows, just throwing his name on there as a producer credit to help get them on the air. I don't think he's actively involved in the production of any of them.
|
All I know is if Darth Lucas can churn out his ridiculously overblown Star Wars movies once every three years, Abrams should be able to at least do the same with much more character heavy Star Trek movies.
|
Bit more information:
The pilot is written by Supernatural creator and former showrunner Eric Kripke (which is a plus in my book, I love that series) and will be directed by Jon Favreau. |
Just announced - Giancarlo Esposito has landed the lead role. Formerly Gus Fring on Breaking Bad and currently part of the ensemble in ABC's Once Upon a Time.

So... this is a pretty blatant plot ripoff of the "Dies the Fire" fantasy series written by S.M. Stirling.
I'll watch it, though. |

This show wasn't too bad when it was called "Jericho"...

Physics went insane? Seriously?
That's the explanation for why technology stopped? I stopped after I heard that. |

It will end with a cliffhanger and a cancellation. This is NBC you know.

I will give it a chance since it has Gus in it. =)

Story and setting has potential.
Seeing as how it is NBC, it will go all "Heroes" inside of 6 weeks. we will get 12 episodes, then a 3 month break, then 2 episodes and 2 month break. And then the plot and characters will just be stupid. If it was an HBO show, it would be awesome. Since it's not, it will fail in style. |

There is no explanation for why shit quits working. Why would batteries stop working? Planes falling out of the sky? Stupid. |
Quote:
It's a crazy! BTW, the planes falling out the sky part is ****ing reeruned. |
Quote:
|
I think it looks cool, but they could have done without the bullshit that is gonna come from one person having the power source, like they indicated on the commercials. Why even have something that reeruned in there? Just do a series about people trying to survive in that situation, leave out the dumbass shit.
|

In any event, it's already been done. So quit ****ing around and WORK ON STAR TREK DAMMIT! :# |

Dumbest. Premise. Ever. What was the show a few years back in which the world experienced a brief blackout? His sounds like more of the same, only dumber. After the LOST final season and the cancellation of Alcatraz, I'm no longer interested in J.J Abrams TV projects. Not gonna waste my time. |
Quote:
If Revolution didn't have Giancarlo Esposito in it, I probably wouldn't watch it at all. |

I'll watch Revolution if all of you guys think it's must see TV and also think it'll make it beyond season one. I'm just too jaded by Abrams at this point to invest. |
The show I want to see succeed this fall is Last Resort. Big fan of Andre Brauger (and Shawn Ryan). Although Vegas looks kind of cool, conceptually, as well.
|
Quote:
'course part of the problem is that we're in a society that, while on one hand we've grown to like serialized drama, on the other, we're not patient enough to invest more than a week or two into anything. So it's a hard mountain to climb getting a new show to stick, or getting people to watch long enough for the show to grow and improve. (especially on NBC) |
Quote:
The biggest bummer is that Vegas, or Vega$, is a series name that is already in lexicon. Hopefully, they'll reference Dan Tana at some point (which is actually an Italian restaurant on the corner of Santa Monica & Doheny that Frank Sinatra used to frequent in the 60's. GREAT place that's still there today). |
Quote:
The problem is that J.J. Abrams, through LOST, has ruined the "high-concept" serial. I just don't trust him and I don't think this will last because most people I speak to don't trust him, either. |

I have Uverse and the pilot is available already on demand. I'll try and watch it tonight maybe. I'm pretty sure it's widely available online as well.
|
I'm sick of post apocolyptic and its NBC. This thing is doomed from the start. I'm not wasting my time on it.
in short.... Not worth it. :D |

One of the main reasons why I think Revolution will fail is that Alcatraz was getting 6.7 million viewers on a Monday night not including DVR, yet was canceled. That leads me to believe that Fox didn't want to get into a "LOST" type situation and have a series with no true resolution. The final few episodes were beginning to feel more and more like Lost, especially since they continually referenced "The Island". Lindelof is a dickfoot. |

Ok, I'm like 5 minutes into this thing and it's dumb. Planes falling from the sky, then it starts 15 years after the power goes out and nobody has aged one bit. Fail so far.
|
Quote:
|
actually they aged quite a bit, problem is the people they showed in the previous 15 years are only 3 people. The Brothers and the Militia dude.
Its not bad, ill give it a few episodes before i decide one way or another. The end of thedamn episode was pretty decent.
Spoiler!
|
Watching the premiere right now.
what'd you guys think? |
I'm willing to give it a chance, won't be surprised if it crashes and burns though.
|
The premiere was okay.
Kinda, sorta hoped they'd build up the black out more. |
Gets a 6 out of 10 from me. The whole ninja, I can take out 42 militia people by myself was way over the top. Planes falling out of the sky....uh, ok, whatever you say. The poisen in the whiskey thing was kinda cool tho...didn't see that coming. The British woman was the most interesting character of the lot.
I do like the concept of war lords, militia, etc. I think that is exactly what would occur in this type situation. |
Not great, but I hated it less than I expected, after reading some early reviews. Has promise I think.

Thoughts
1. It was a little goofy. 2. Still better than the stuff SyFy puts out 3. Liked it more than I liked the pilot of Terra Nova 4. If they could show blood it would be better. That fight seemed too fake... 5. I will keep watching |

WTF. |

I liked it. Will definitely be watching in the future. I don't think the mom (Juliet from LOST) is actually dead.
|
watched the first one. I'm interested.
|
Not bad. Has potential...
|
Quote:
Though, for 15 years down the line people dress to clean, not all, but some. |
was the black dude in Breaking Bad?
|
The review I read was pretty bad, but it went after the logic of the show more than anything.
|
Quote:
The ratings were good, so maybe the show will last for awhile. Having said that, I so miss Battlestar Galactica, DS9, and even Lost. I have high hopes for Last Resort on Thursday, but I don't see how they keep the story line going. |
Quote:
Maybe that's still coming, kind of like flashbacks in Lost. Who knows with Abrams. |

I'm watching the pilot now. First thing I notice is how everybody has nice clothes, is well groomed and basically look like models. Yeah, that would happen in a post-apocalyptic world. LMAO
Not terribly impressed so far. It should at least be better than The Postman. So far, it isn't. |
