Anyone here ever raced go-karts?

Back in the day (early 70's), I had a few karts, and raced them at a handful of tracks in N. Iowa and S. MN- some asphalt, some dirt. We started on 4-cycle Briggs & Stratton's, but soon graduated to the more powerful 2-cycle McCullough engines. At one 1/2 mile dirt track in MN, a cop clocked me at 90 mph- that's really moving when your butt is sitting about an inch off the ground. Got a handful of trophies, none of which I still have of course.

Not me or my kart(just grabbed this pic on Google),
but very similar to what I had and raced:

Looking back, those Sundays afternoons were an absolute blast. I was wondering if anyone here had ever done this...

very dangerous, should be banned

I've not seen adults racing carts but when I go autocross, there are typically a few kids on their carts putting up times that are on par with some of the slower cars. Very cool.

I did once at Sportsworld.

Man, I miss Sportsworld.

Not carts, but flat tracked quads all over hell and did some motocross racing.

A lot of good memories, but my body hurts just thinking about it.

I did the other week, and it can be dangerous, but it is fun.

It was always cool until you could drive a real car, then it wasn't as fun. Still fun though.

I did until about three years ago. I will still race once a year if i can get a ride but i loved it. Wish i still had my kart. I did both dirt and pavement.

I had two carts when I was a teenager, both bought second hand myself.

One had twin Macs and was fast has heck. It was a true racing cart, but the brakes didn't work (missing parts), so I would stick my hand over the carbs one at a time to kill the motors and they had so much compression it would stop pretty quickly.

Never really got to take them to an official track though, just ran them around the neighborhood. My buddy ran the fast one into a head stone at the cemetery and bent the crap out of the front end.

Always wanted to do the racing gig with my grandsons, but they are just too far away.

I used to ride the rental carts at the county fair. We wore our swim suits and then went to the pool shower afterward. Always drive myself out of money! It was fun but low speed compared to what the OP is talking about.

Go fast, turn left

I don't know if it counts, when I was 14 my Dad built a go-cart for me. I think it was his way of helping me to learn to drive? I remember it was a fast sob, had a 2man McCullock chainsaw powerplant. I had more fun with it than I should have had I suppose.

Everytime I go to Lake of the Ozarks I race.

and I never lose..............never...

I used to race all the time. I stopped when then the racing league I was in made it all too easy for sub-par racers to cheat. **** those blue turtle shells.
