I hate the playoffs

I spend the entire week before the games.....second guessing all of my choices.

Do I start Matt Ryan vs. the Panthers? Or do I start Kaepernick against the Dolphins?

Do I start Charles because he gets the ball at least 20 times a game? Or do I start Ridley who will get the opportunity for TDs?

Do I start the Browns defense vs. the Chiefs? Or do I start the Jets defense against Henne (who could go off at anytime)?

Nothing worse than losing in the playoffs because you made a poor choice.

Hootie 12-05-2012 04:01 PM

I'd go kaep, Charles, browns

The Franchise 12-05-2012 04:03 PM

I lose points for yards and points allowed for my defense.

Would you still start Charles AND the Browns?

The Franchise 12-05-2012 04:11 PM

This is my Week 1 Matchup

My Team:

Matt Ryan vs Panthers
Stevan Ridley vs. Texans
Doug Martin vs. Eagles
Julio Jones vs. Panthers

Justin Tucker vs. Redskins

His Team:

Andy Dalton vs. Cowboys
Arian Foster vs. Patriots
Steven Jackson vs. Bills
Brandon Marshall vs. Vikings

I don't know, it's tough...the Browns are a safe pick in the fact neither team will score more than 17 so you know you won't lose any points...

but I don't see how you can bench Charles...you never bench your studs. It's a rule.

Old Dog 12-06-2012 11:54 AM

Ryan, Charles, Browns for me

I agree with the hating of the playoffs though.

So you think Brady vs the Texans over Luck vs Titans?

If you have Brady you go all the way with him. Has he ever scored less than 20 points this season?

He scored less last week.

That said, I still say you dance with them that brought you.

Johnny Vegas 12-06-2012 04:57 PM

They both will probably score the same amount of points anyways. I think both will definitely throw for 2 TD's and 250 yards. After that its sacks, INT's, and missing playmakers that'll hurt them.

Hootie 12-06-2012 05:58 PM

this is why I hate traditional, 1 QB fantasy leagues

both of the teams in my two deep roster, OP (meaning you can play 2 QBs) keeper leagues that have Andrew Luck are in the playoffs...1 of them is the #1 seed...he went #1 and #2 in the two keeper drafts overall

I just can't respect any fantasy football leagues where Andrew Luck isn't a weekly starter...I just think it's stubborn when people bash 2 QB leagues and tell me how unrealistic they are yet starting 3-4 RB's every week is WAY more realistic!

sedated 12-06-2012 09:23 PM

Relax. Set your final lineup on Friday night, and do whatever you can to avoid thinking about it until the games have already started.

And most of all, dont listen to anyone on CP, ESPN, fantasy gurus, or whatever. Listening to the masses has F'd me over time after time.

I think Ive mentioned it before, but I dont think there is any correlation between the two. Go with the best option at each position. If they oppose each other, just think of it as hedging your bet.

I hear ya,one of my money leagues I opted to bench Moreno late yesterday and was :deevee: ONLY thing that hopefully saves me is its a 10 man league and my 2 rb's and flex are Ray Rice,Doug Martin and Ahmad Bradshaw.

CHENZ A! 12-07-2012 02:23 PM

At least you ****ers made the playoffs. My team is first in points scored, and 5-8 on the season. No playoffs for me. Every damn week I was in the top 2 or 3 scores in the league, but I'd always get a ton scored against me.

CHENZ A! 12-07-2012 02:27 PM

Matt Ryan
Jamaal Charles
Chris Johnson
Ahmad Bradshaw
Roddy White
Reggie Wayne
Dez Bryant
Steve Johnson
Tony Gonzalez
Jermaine Gresham

Damnit I like this team. I got hosed.

Hootie 12-07-2012 02:31 PM

we always pay out for points as well...this year in one league the top 6 scorers all made the playoffs

This is why I hate traditional head to head leagues and am in one league that awards the play-offs to a tier scoring system throughout the season.

Explain the system, Joe. I'd like to try to convince one of my leagues to get away from the H2H format. I'd like to eliminate some/most of the luck factor and reward guys for building a solid team.

Every year, we have a team or two that scores a ton, gets unlucky every week, and misses the playoffs. That's reeruned, IMO. This year, the team that scored the 2nd most out of 12 teams missed the playoffs. That's ridiculous.

I've thought about two possible solutions.

Giving the 6 highest scoring teams each week a "win" and giving the 6 lowest scoring teams a "loss" - then using a team's "record" to determine playoff seeding with points scored as a tiebreaker.

Or, doing a roto-hybrid league where the highest scoring team each week is awarded 12 points, the 2nd highest scoring team 11 points, etc. Then the top 6 in these "points" go to the playoffs.

In each scenario, you'd have the option of sticking with this scoring in the playoffs, or returning to a H2H format specifically for the playoffs.

Thoughts?

I scored more points than every team in my league. and didn't make the playoffs. Only won four games. Everyone had their game of the year against me. I would be interested in something like this. Thanks

I found this system at FF Today and it's all about building a solid team.

Ours is a 12 team league that still plays h2h with a small cash prize at the end for best h2h,however,the leagues scoring is based on a tier system. In other words, say I'm playing you and you beat me 145.5 to 143.7 I lose the h2h match-up but based on the other total scores I had the 2nd highest point total I'm awarded 10 pts. the tier is 11 thru 0.Those tier points are accumulated weekly and decide the play-offs and reward those who built the most solid team throughout the season.

On a personal note if your league does this get ready for Monday nights because even though you may have won your H2H you're watching everyone else who may have players going because in the end it's all about the best built team and keeps everyone interested till the end.

Nzoner 12-07-2012 10:28 PM

Lastly,if you want a real challenge,we play all 17 weeks on the tier system and then our play-offs go with the NFL play-offs.In other words top 6 of 12 tier scoring make play-offs and can keep any play-off bound players on their rosters.Rosters must stay the same as reg season,no pick-ups once re-draft is over and no H2H but a full blown week to week overall points to decide Super Bowl winner.

Hootie 12-08-2012 11:47 AM

in my 12 team keeper leagues ($75 buy in) we do $50 towards H2H and $25 towards points.

6 teams make the playoffs

Payouts are:

$300 1st
$150 2nd
$100 3rd
$50 4th

$180 1st in points
$90 2nd in points
$30 3rd in points

In one of those keeper leagues, the 6 highest scoring teams all made the playoffs.

But I also play adult FFL and play in OP leagues where you can start 2 QB's so the position isn't devalued and the league actually takes a little cognitive thought other than taking RB's over and over and over for the first 5 rounds

Hootie 12-08-2012 11:47 AM

oh and the league ends for both H2H and points after week 16...week 17 does not exist

It's getting that way because there are at least a dozen guys that put up pretty solid numbers anymore You can't wait until later rounds and still get a great QB anymore.

Hootie 12-08-2012 09:38 PM

just don't understand why the single most valuable position in sports gets undervalued in the biggest fantasy sport out there

makes NO sense whatsoever

I guarantee in 5 years or less every standard league will start being an OP league

everyone is just behind the curve (other than me, of course!)

they are just far more enjoyable leagues

The Franchise 12-10-2012 11:01 AM

Put Charles back into my lineup 5 minutes before the game. Thank God.

Ended up starting the Jets defense instead of the Browns defense. Missed out on 5 points. Oh well. I'm up 160 to 98 and all he has left is Arian Foster.

Nzoner 12-10-2012 11:35 AM

What a week for Coughlin to give Wilson his shot,Bradshaw killed me.

Skyy God 12-10-2012 03:46 PM

I'm up 20 with Riddler and Hernandez vs. Brady. I like my chances.

The Franchise 12-11-2012 10:23 AM

Alright.....so obviously I won that matchup. I win this week and I'm in the Championship game. I play the team this week that I lost to in Week 1. Who the **** do I start?

Pick 1
Matt Ryan vs. Giants
Colin Kaepernick vs. Patriots

Pick 2
Jamaal Charles vs. Raiders
Doug Martin vs. Saints

Stevan Ridley vs. 49ers

Pick 3
Julio Jones vs. Giants
A.J. Green vs. Eagles
Victor Cruz vs. Falcon
s
Pierre Garcon vs. Browns
Jordy Nelson vs. Bears

Pick 1
Browns vs. Redskins
Jets vs. Titans
Vikings vs. Rams (FA pickup if need be)

My RBs are obvious. I'm not starting Ridley against the 49ers. I generally hate having a bunch of players in 1 game.....but Ryan, Jones and Cruz are obvious starts. The defense is what gets me the most. The Browns have to play RGIII. The Jets are playing on Monday night....but that team is all sorts of ****ed. And the Vikings play the Rams....but the Rams have shown the capability of putting up points.

It's basically going to come down to whether or not Ryan decides to **** me over.

Old Dog 12-11-2012 10:46 AM

Any chance that either the Lions (@ Arizona) or Bengals (@ Philly) are available? I would look there if they are rather than Minnesota.

Otherwise the only possibility I see is Kaepernick and like you, I would start Ryan.

The Franchise 12-11-2012 10:47 AM

The Lions? Yes. The Bengals? No.

Old Dog 12-11-2012 11:27 AM

The Cardinals haven't scored 20 since week 4, are the lowest scoring team in the NFL, have gained the fewest yards, have given up (by far) the most sacks, and only two teams (KC and Philly) have committed more turnovers.

I believe Detroit is the answer for a defense this week if you can get them.

The Franchise 12-11-2012 11:50 AM

****....I thought they were available. Turns out someone picked up them up last week. Bastards. Here are the FA defenses that are available.

Cardinals vs. DET
Eagles vs. CIN
Cowboys vs. PIT
Vikings vs. STL
Bucs vs. NO
Panthers vs. SD
Redskins vs. CLE
Chiefs vs. OAK
Colts vs. HOU
Raiders vs. KC
Saints vs. TB
Titans vs. NYJ
Jags vs. MIA

Dartgod 12-11-2012 11:57 AM

**** Seattle's defense.

Win my division, best record in the league and I'm out in the 1st round because Seattle's defense scored an insane amount of points.

Scoring in our league is generally around 130-150 is needed to win. I lost 181-136.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111

Old Dog 12-11-2012 12:00 PM

Very much "yuck" right there. If I had to go with one of them, I would probably roll the dice with the Raiders, but the Jets may be the way to go and not lose a waiver claim. Of course if RGIII is out you stay with Cleveland.

The Franchise 12-14-2012 10:29 AM

My match up this week. Win and I'm in the Championship game.

My Team:

Matt Ryan vs. NYG
Jamaal Charles vs. OAK
Doug Martin vs. NO
Julio Jones vs. NYG
A.J. Green vs. PHI (17.7 points)
Victor Cruz vs. ATL
Greg Olsen vs. SD
Justin Tucker vs. DEN
Jets DEF vs. TEN

His Team:

Tom Brady vs. SF
Darren McFadden vs. KC
C.J. Spiller vs. SEA
Bryce Brown vs. CIN (5.5 points)
Hakeem Nicks vs. ATL
Danario Alexander vs. CAR
Aaron Hernandez vs. SF
Patriots DEF vs. SF
Lawrence Tynes vs. ATL

We have a total of 5 players in the ATL/NYG matchup.

Old Dog 12-14-2012 12:12 PM

Methinks you win, but not by much

The Franchise 12-14-2012 12:14 PM

I need that ATL/NYG game to be a high scoring game.......and the NE/SF game to be low scoring.

The guy I'm playing is really good friend of mine. We co-commish the league together. He won it all last year.....so I'm praying to God that I knock him out this week.

Old Dog 12-14-2012 12:22 PM

My lineups for my main league are below. I've never won the fricking thing but have finished 2nd or 3rd five dang times in nine (this is our 10th) year One of my others is worth more money, but this is the one I care about. I'm hoping that it's my time.

I dislike the fact that it seems Houston has recently too.

I NEED MOAR FOSTER!!!!

In a PPR I would start Cruz and with White iffy may start Julio. In a non PPR, I don't think I would, but neither one of those two would be crazy.

Your thinking is right on in these games. I see high scoring in the ATL/NYG game but I think it will mostly be done by the Giants because the Giants front four are going to be all up in Ryan's arse as David Wilson will continue to go off. Giants continue to wake up from their slumber and continue to play well this week.

Although Brady is at home and has been playing well he will be running from both Smiths all night and Bellichek will know how to scheme against this rookie QB and slow him down. So I suspect a low scoring game as well.

I would bench them. 6 points is an awful lot to be made up by stat changes, which are normally just a point or two in the off chance that they even occur. My brother lost the fantasy championship last week (not sure why we had it then instead of this week) because the Cardinals D/ST got him -7. He lost by 1 point. Don't be my brother.

Colts vs. KC

Would you start Victor Cruz or Pierre Garcon?

Hootie 12-20-2012 01:16 PM

Tough!

But I'm going Jets and Garcon...with Garcon being a really, really tough choice.

I just trust RGIII throwing a TD over Eli at this point.

Yeah....I'm flip flopping between Garcon and Cruz. Cruz has the potential for a big game....but hasn't done shit lately. Plus the Ravens are slouches. Garcon on the other hand has a QB who will chuck it deep and he's guaranteed to get at least 10 targets a game.

I'm leaning towards the Colts defense because I'm going to have to go balls out to win this championship game. The guy I'm playing is ****ing stacked. Plus the Chiefs ****ing suck.

I have a plug-and-play choice between ARI and IND. I was thinking INDY but the Chiefs do seem to enjoy the three and out without passing it. That kind of worries me a little. The advantage IND has compared to both of our options is the desire to win the game. In the end, I would like to know that me defense gives as much of a **** as I do. I know that doesn't always correlate to more points, but for me I feel more comfortable. Kind of like not wanting all your players in the early games.

I would also like to take the time to thank Tony G for getting my team off to a horrible start on championship weekend. Nine yards is just ****ing great Tony. Damn you.

Side note, interesting that you had the decision with the Jets D last week, as I was also up 6 in that game and benched Greene.

Totally dominated. Worst week I've had, probably all season.
