You might want to start with a revolver. Not as intimidating as a semi-auto for a novice, easy to care for, you can instantly determine if it's loaded or not. You could get a mid-sized .357 and run .38 rounds through it. The kick from the .38 rounds won't be bad for her.

Good advice. Then when she's comfortable with it, go buy her her own .38, .380, or maybe a 9mm. Then you take the .357 for yourself and you've got a damn nice boom stick.

Now that I have a little time to hang out, what would you guys recommend for a home defense weapon that the Mrs. would feel comfortable using as well?

I recommend taking the Basic Pistol NRA course. My wife took it with me and shot a 9mm very well (first time she'd fired a hand gun). Most first time shooters with instruction do very well because they haven't developed a lot of the bad habits that a great deal of experienced shooters develope early on.

My wife prefers the 9mm over all the other pieces I have.

Another lesson learned - this one only cost $10, though.

If you have a custom pistol grip, this sling mount will NOT work.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...aL._SS500_.jpg

It won't seat correctly because of the curved edge of the back of the grip.

I guess I need to get the Magpul sling mount.

:grr:

Well **** me

Too late for me to roll on this (if only I'd clicked on the site a few days ago) but, for anyone looking for a good deal on a used Eotech sight, here you go.

http://www.summitgunbroker.com/EO_Tech.html

The price is $229. Ironically, that is the exact same price I paid for the Lucid I just bought.

:#

This is the guy I bought my H&K from. Shipped quickly with no hassle. I'd expect these will probably be varying degrees of scuffed up (you can see that from the picture), but for less than half the price of a new one, who cares?

Ugh...yeah, I would have jumped on that. But I'm looking forward to getting my lucid. Also, I informed my wife of the next gun I'll be getting. I was in Cabella's last night getting some ammo and they had this gun in their "gun library" - the MSAR STG 556, patterned after a Steyr AUG. $1399, used.

The Lucid's awesome - I'm certainly keeping it. Also, this is an older model Eotech, probably not as user friendly as current models.

But still.....

I like those Steyrs/MSARs, too. I remember Buds had the cheaper ones for around $1,000 (you might want to check that). IIRC that's the gun Karl used in Die Hard. Pretty bad ass.

KRISS TDI still not getting any love here? no one hit the link? Or was no one impressed?

http://www.kriss-tdi.com/media/KRISS...heet_SBRSO.pdf

bump for another shot at it. 2 grand, but if I could afford the best home defense guns, this would TOP the list.
Very accurate because of the V recoil system, .45 caliber

Very impressed. With everything except the price....

Do you own one? Looks like a really fun gun.

Frazod 04-29-2011 08:49 AM

This upgrading thing is fun, but it can also be a pain in the ass.

The flip to the side mount I ordered for my 3x magnifier was the wrong height - one was standard and one was tall - I picked the standard and it's just a bit too short to line up correctly. I think I should log on to that BB where the Lucid owner was chatting and tell him it would be nice if he could actually include some actual measurements in the specs on his website. :grr:

Another thing I've noticed is that the slots on the top rail of the handguard do not line up with the slots on the rail on top of the receiver (you'd think it would have occurred to somebody that those should line up, but apparently not), which means to use the 3x I'll have to mount the sight much farther forward than I wanted to. The only other option is to get a Vltor quad that has a continuous rail which runs back over the receiver. That would be perfect, but set me back another couple of hundred.

Or I could just return/sell the 3x, and stick with the 2x, which fits perfectly with zero hassle, and call it a day.

Decisions, decisions.

Also installed the Magpul BAD lever. That's pretty cool.

I do not own, but I do want to correct that. question is, can I buy a LEO one through my department? If not the civilian one is still pretty ****ing sweet.

I vow to let you shoot it too...
