Stanced cars...love 'em or hate 'em?

So what is CP's general opinion about stanced cars? Saw my first well executed one in person today and ......(well I will put my opinion in a post)

So what say you gear heads of CP?

Examples of well executed cars below (there are tons of terrible ones. feel free to post them in the thread)

Depends on the car

AustinChief 05-09-2013 07:42 PM

Wow, what a ****ing joke. I sincerely hope every one of those idiots rips their oil pan off or gets stuck like a see saw on a neighborhood speed bump.

So, yeah, I think they are ****ing ridiculous.

Yea, way to much high riding shit on any street to even think about driving something like these.

KC native 05-09-2013 07:45 PM

Ok, my opinion. If they aren't sports cars, I don't really give a shit. They can chew up expensive tires to their hearts delight as long as they're not driving slow in front of me.

If you do this to a sports car, then you deserve to be castrated, electrocuted, water boarded, and then die in an AIDS tree fire.

Also, the Challenger and Charger R/Ts are not sports cars.

Silock 05-09-2013 07:47 PM

Dumb as shit.

Yup. There is ZERO advantage for these idiots to do this except for "style." You **** with the aerodynamics, you ruin your tires and you like like an idiot... all while reducing overall performance.

It's more suspension geometry. But yea, I agree.

What's kind of ironic is this stuff came from racers. If you slightly increase negative camber, the car will turn better. Going overboard like this is dumb as ****.

kc rush 05-09-2013 08:08 PM

There was some kid driving one of these during one of the big snow storms we had this winter. He got stuck and bitched about his tires not having enough traction.

hometeam 05-09-2013 08:11 PM

****ing love stanced cars.

However, every example you posted is someone going too far. The line between good and bad is thin.

What I like to see is the correct offset rims, right sized tire (little or no stretch/correct dimension) for whatever wheel gap your suspension is set too. Do so you dont have to run way out of camber~

Lowered is not stanced. Stanced screws with the camber and offset.

IMO your right examples are lowered and running a higher performance suspension. It doesn't fall into the stanced category until you start messing with the offset and camber.

The M3 is slightly lowered. Looks ready to run on the track (aside from the awful hood).

The Vette looks like a body kit.

The RX7 is also lowered and probably running coil overs with stock suspension geometry.

BigBeauford 05-09-2013 08:22 PM

In hometeams "right" pictures, I would drive the shit out of the bimmer if they removed that awful hood. Very good looking car.

Stanced: To decrease the overall performance and day-to-day livability of a car while simultaneously making it look worse and decreasing its resale value by a considerable margin.

This. I detest most body kits. If it doesn't have good lines from the factory, I'm probably not interested in it to begin with.

I used to run 15 x 7 in the front & 15 x 8 in the rear Torq "D's".

I needed new rubber & a buddy had the same wheels with 8.5" for the rear. I wanted wider on the rear than the current 255's. A cyber buddy told me the 3.75" backspacing of the 8.5" would work with a 295.

Anyhoots I chickened out since the 295s' were like 2" shorter.

The 275s' completed my intended stance.

Dumbshit that I am, this is the only stance I know of. Also commonly referred to as "rake".

Doing this kind of shit to a classic is a ****ing sin. They look like shit and it ****s up the steering and handling aspects.

HemiEd 05-10-2013 05:04 AM

I have been changing the "ride height" on my cars for over 40 years, and I have dropped my Challenger 2 inches, the right way by changing the struts and springs.

I see these rice burners with them dropped down like that without correcting the camber, and I bust out laughing. I was sitting next to one of those things, a scion at a light a week ago, and the two guys in the car couldn't figure out why I was in histerics in my car.

That being said, I voted awesome, because at least they are doing something mechanical to the car instead of just bolting on a fart can muffler and stupid bi-plane wing.

HemiEd 05-10-2013 07:16 AM

I find the term "stanced" kind of amusing and have been reflecting on all the terms through the years for changing the cars "stance" from stock. That is why I find it hard to criticize these cars, but they are amusing.

In the 50s, they "lowered" or "Dagoed" (front end low, back end high) them, and I did that to my 57 Fury in the mid 60s.

Then in the 60s, to emulate the "gassers" and "funny cars" at the drag strip, we "jacked" them, usually with the front higher than the rear.

I was poor, and remember putting a piece of 2x4 between the rear end and frame before I could swing a set of "air shocks" for the back of my 64 Barracuda. I cranked the torsion bars all the way up, and the car rode like crap .
It was also cool to paint the wheel wells and running gear white, with little light bulbs up in there to show it off at night.

Then in the 80s, it started to become cool to "slam" them and that is what I would call most of these pictures, SLAMMED. I had my 10 second Barracuda slammed as much as possible, and still have the ladder bars work.

Fun stuff, and I know some of these cars have air ride suspensions so they can raise them up when they are going to actually go some place.

While driving to work this morning, I was behing some 2 door M3 BMW...and holy shit it sounded HEALTHY. I'm talking a combo of Covevette and Ferrari. Got on the highway; we were around 60mph, he changed lanes and punched it - gone. like, 'gone' in a quick way.

It sounded even better when we turned on to the on-ramp. No idea what kind it was. Had sort of a bump on the hood; kick ass big (not reeruned big) wheels; low profile; dual-quad-tipped exhaust.

man.....I spent the rest of the drive wondering what it would be like to have a car that bad ass.

Molitoth 05-10-2013 07:29 AM

Hometeam nailed it. There is a difference between Classy stance and ricer stance.

Classy stance leaves a little fender gap, isn't cambered, and can successfully drive on the street. Ricer stance can't go over a speed bump.

I have seen several cars done that way, truly a head scratcher. If 20s are cool, those have to be cooler, right?
A man moved in down the street from me with an early 80s Crown Vic, with what must be at least 26 inch wheels. I grin every time I see it, and glad it is his and not mine.

I’m guessing that’s a “trar”, car body on 4X4 truck frame. I’m not a fan but that one is particularly heinous.
