Christmas party's

The Mrs & I are heading to the first of 3 company Christmas parties. I don't normally go but I've only been with the company for 6 months and my boss personally invited me, I feel obligated. Not to mention, this one has an open bar so, it won't be so bad.

Just curious how many of you go to company parties and do you go because you want to or because you feel you have to. Merry Christmas!

Gonzo 12-08-2012 03:28 PM

I went to one Thursday at a bowling alley. I was the first to leave, too. I just can't stand that shit anymore. Seems the older I get, the less I want to be around these people. All they do is drink and bitch...

1ChiefsDan 12-08-2012 03:36 PM

Just make sure you get shit faced and make fun of your boss. Good times and best thing for your career.

Flattering the boss's wife by hitting on her is another good career move.

Pushead2 12-08-2012 03:41 PM

I don't like them personally. I go to my team's Christmas party but only because you have to and you have to maintain a certainstyle there.

Going to corporate parties are great because I don't work for them, I get shitfaced and try my hardest to get a girl's digits or laid. In my life I'm 3 for 9. Not too bad.

Urinating in the parking lot will win you big points.

hometeam 12-08-2012 04:48 PM

Going to one tonight. I go becuase I want too. And not so I can hang out, but so I can win something good~ Boss bought ten grand of tv,s game systems, blueray players, etc from best buy yesterday, and then add on top of that 10 grand worth of gift cards.

Without prizes I wouldnt go. I spend most of my life with those people, no reason to go out of my way to do more.

Where do you work and are you hiring?

I absolutely hate company christmas parties and don't go unless it is practically required. My wife is going to her work party tonight. I wasn't about to pay for babysitting for that so I am staying home.

Amen brother.

I could be slopping around in hip boots trying to pull a trout and these people I see for 40 hours a week feel the need to invite me to stand in their living room and act like I want to be there. So, instead of being in my wool pajamas on my couch I have to get dressed up and stand in your living room. It's ****ing torture.

Let's go on a hike, or see an IMAX movie, or a museum or something...I see you every day from 8 to 5. What are we gonna talk about?!?!?!?? At least lets have something to talk about and new, don't make me stand in your living room and not drink too much.

**** I HATE THIS TIME OF YEAR except for family.

007 12-08-2012 05:11 PM

The other thing I hate is people feeling the need to buy gifts at work. UGH I hate that crap.

Psyko Tek 12-08-2012 05:16 PM

last year my Christmas party was 4 days 3 nights in cancun all paid resort

Big Chief Homer 12-08-2012 05:44 PM

Mines next sunday night.Told the Boss yesterday I would not be attending.

Hate Christmas parties and my co-workers.Add alcohol and my big mouth.

Not a good combination.Better to stay home with the kids.

Ours is always during the work day. 21st this year. As soon as the date was announced, I put in for a vacation day.

Exactly! We have a perfect working relationship. Why do you want one of your best engineers who hobbies are Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga and hurting himself on mountain bikes to be fed alcohol in your living room around your kids and wife?

It's ****ing silly? Why are you poking this bear? All is well, I'll see ya Monday when I'm ready for work. We have plenty of time to talk.

I know some people really love this stuff but have a heart for people who just don't like it or it's not in their social agenda. It's probably for the best.

Fortunately you have CP to come to and get away from all that.

Just depends on the people and the culture of a company.

I wouldn't bother attending my company Xmas party...

I miss working in restaurants for all the poontang...

That's the one downfall of being a grown up now.

Easy 6 12-08-2012 07:02 PM

In general, i like company parties... free food, free booze if your lucky, and a chance to get to know some of the stiffer people in a boozy, more relaxed environment.

What does that have to do with gift giving in the workplace? I'm easy to get along with.

Sorry, but I consider gift giving for family and close friends. When gift giving started kicking in for co workers, babysitters, teachers and other professions..... I tired of that. It is all just a guilt trip now. If somebody gets you a gift now you feel obligated to get them a gift. Thats not the spirit of the season.

Just keep it simple. Family and close friends.

Shogun 12-08-2012 07:02 PM

Mine is next weekend at Kansas Star casino. Love going to our christmas parties.

Hootie 12-08-2012 07:03 PM

casino?! Nice. Do they give you any gambling money???

Reerun_KC 12-08-2012 07:05 PM

Ours was last night. We went to Deep Fork Resturant in OKC OK. After supper we went to a resturant called Local in Norman. Sat at their bar and hung out until about 11:30...

Not a bad night. Lots of fun and laughter.

By the way it's acceptable to use an apostrophe when pluralizing abbreviations. It's the author's choice although it's typically done only when there would be no ambiguity.

we consumed a lot of drinks from 5 pm to 1130...

Work parties are best during work hours when you are getting paid to be there. Not after hours when you want to be going what you want to do.

When I started with my company in 1984 our department held Christmas parties at a restaurant/bar and the spouses were not invited.

Try selling that one to your wife.

my wife used to be the head of her companies employee activity committee; not only did we have to go every year, but we sort of had to set up to an extent, make sure everything was going smoothly etc. It wasn't bad though; the people she works with aren't sticks in the mud. they like to have a good time, and have lots of cocktails etc.

but anymore, I don't really care to go to any of them. when I was at my last two jobs, I didn't go. One company was a big one, and the other only an office of 40. Didn't give a shit. people were shocked that I didn't want to go etc Pass.

Dayze 12-09-2012 11:03 AM

I also got a bonus at my last company....$75. awesome.
I hated that ****ing place. SO glad I'm at my current company.
and at the other place, I whopping $.75/hr increase in pay in 3 years.

left that shit hole and got a 40% raise going to the place I'm at now; and got out of the dead-end project controls career. I do NOT recommend that to anyone - unless your from the Middle East. they seem to be passionate about it. why?.....not ****ing clue.

I worked for a company a few years ago where the tight ass owner gave me a bonus. I was the top sales guy in the company and doubled the income of my region that year.

One day a check shows up in the mail with a long had written letter from the owner telling me what a hell of a job I had done and how proud he was of me. Along with the letter was a TEN DOLLAR CHECK. (No bullshit, there are guys that post here that have seen it)

I took the Check and letter into Hobby Lobby and had them framed with some clowns and a Mickey Mouse picture. The check and the letter are hanging in my man cave. I called my direct boss the next day and put in my notice. The owner called me up and asked "why are you leaving?" Heh, that was an interesting phone conversation.

While I was talking with him on the business cell, I went and took a picture of the framed check/letter hanging on my wall in the Man Cave with my other cell and emailed it to him.

Me: "Did you get my email?"

Owner: Yes

Me: "Did you open the picture?

Owner Yes

Me: "That would be why I'm leaving, Ace."
