****The Official 2012 World Series Thread****

GAME 1, at SF: SF 8, DET 3
The Giants wasted little time against Justin Verlander, as Pablo Sandoval went deep off the Tigers' ace in the first. Sandoval hit two more homers, including a two-run shot off Verlander in the third. Fece Zito tossed 5 2/3 frames of one-run ball, and San Francisco's 'pen sealed Game 1.(mlb.com)

GAME 2, at SF: SF 2, DET 0
Madison Bumgarner and Doug Fister exchanged zeros for six, but while the Giants lefty followed with a 1-2-3 frame, the Tigers righty allowed a leadoff hit in the seventh, which led to Game 2's first run. Bumgarner and two relievers combined on a two-hit shutout to take a 2-0 Series lead.(mlb.com)

GAME 3, at DET: SF 2, DET 0
The Giants kept stifling the Tigers, with Ryan Vogelsong working out of jams for 5 2/3 frames, and Tim Lincecum and Sergio Romo finishing the shutout. Gregor Blanco's RBI triple and Brandon Crawford's RBI single were enough as San Francisco moved to within a win of the Series title.(mlb.com)

GAME 4, at DET: SF 4, DET 3
Marco Scutaro's two-out RBI single in the 10th inning sealed the Giants' Game 4 win and a sweep of the Fall Classic in Detroit. Delmon Young's homer in the sixth helped send it into extras after Buster Posey homered to give San Francisco the lead in the top of the frame.(mlb.com)

This was a shitty World Series for just about everyone not named BIG_DADDY.

chefsos 10-24-2012 07:26 PM

I came in at the end of the Tigers' half of the third, and right now this whole thing reminds me of the '69 Mets. Blanco's diving catch on that rocket by Cabrera, Pagan's two-out weak grounder that hit the bag for a double, <strike>Al Weis</strike> Scutaro (of course) singled him in, then the Panda's second bomb.

When a Giant is awarded first base because of shoe polish on the ball I'll be convinced.

Dr. Johnny Fever 10-24-2012 08:17 PM

I was just sure at the beginning of the playoffs that it would be Yankees vs. Cardinals in the WS just because I hate both with a passion and wouldn't be interested at all. As it is both teams are meh to me and the only reason I'm watching is because I love to watch baseball and it's the WS.

I honestly can't even pick a team to root for. Don't like or hate either one. It might have been kind of nice to have a villain to root against but I'm glad the Tanks and Tards lost anyway heh.

Baseball has become a niche sport just like everything else except the NFL.

Dr. Johnny Fever 10-24-2012 08:32 PM

The Giants are really impressing me. Like many I people I thought for sure the Tigers had a big edge with all the rest and their starting rotation. But here are the Giants poised to beat Verlander pretty good in game one. I guess being hot really does trump being really rested.

Not too surprised. Giants are on a last year Cardinals like run. Nothing is standing in their way right now.

I'm mildly for the Tigers, but I can't say I'm saddened to see Jose Valverde lit up again.

I have been thinking that all night. This just a BB God like intervention. As soon as that ball bounced off the 3rd base bag I was like you have got to be shitting me.

This may be closer to a 2004 Red Sox type roll than anything. Just crazy momentum.

This is a complete assrape right now

I am ****ing Amazed at how much more the Giants want this then every other team in the league. I wish my team had this kind of hunger. NO ****ing superstars on the line up. Just solid players that want to win more then the other team.

KC_Connection 10-24-2012 08:58 PM

The MLB playoffs are just where a bunch of unpredictable, random, crazy shit happens. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Detroit win this series in the end, nor would it surprise me to see SF sweep the way they're going.

idont know if he's a superstar just yet. He's on his way no doubt. Even so, ok, they have 1. Most other teams have way more then that. At least the competing teams that are in the play offs or competing for them year in and year out.

Sandoval is an All-Star as well. May not call him a superstar yet but that line up is more than just solid. When guys like Scutaro, Pagan and Pence step up they're pretty loaded.

Pasta Little Brioni 10-24-2012 09:07 PM

I think Melky shared a bit of the good shit with the boys.

THIS
is what makes the Giants team and the one two years ago so special. I gotta say they have taken it up quite a few notches if they pull this one out.

As much as i hate the Giants, you have to give credit where credit is due. They are just on a different level then everyone else since the break. Wll, the A's, but they were still to young, maybe in a year or 2.

Actually I would say that SF had the better rotation while Detroit had the better bats. SF has been lighting up the scoreboard the past few games though. Also much like in football, rest can be an enemy as much as it is an ally. If you are hot, last thing you want is time off. This is what is hurting the Tigers right now.

Mojo Rising 10-25-2012 12:20 AM

I was in SF today visiting clients. I had some time to drive over to Pac Bell Park. I was able to ilegally park right in front of the stadium just before noon.

Even though I am a Dodger fan I support my daughters bad Giants habit because at least she is watching sports.

I walked by 6 vendor tents and 1 had WS t shirts. He wasnt open anddirected me to the Giants merchandise store. They told me that the WS gear wouldn't arrive for another hour.

They had plenty of NLCS Champ gear but no WS gear.

I went back to the 1 tent who had the 1 box of WS T shirts and talked the guy into selling me a tshirt for $40. I thought I got taken advantage of.

On the plane ride home I spoke with the gal who had the game on her ipad mid flight who told me she was at the dugout store an hour after me, when they limited everyone outside to 1 person every 2 minutes.

She said she flirted her way to an hour wait to buy shot glasses, polo shirts, hats, wavey towels...but no t shirts. Apparently, I stumbled upon the only box of tshirts in China Basin!!!!

It killed me as a Dodger fan to drop $40 on Giants gear but when my daughter was given her gift her smile was well worth it!

Baseball gets a lot of shit for not having different teams win, but while that may be true on average during the regular season, anything can happen in the playoffs. Quite the opposite in the NFL on average. SB teams are easier to predict than WS ones.

Also, it has been mentioned a lot recently by FOX, but that S.F. crowd is into their games. Damn, just everything about it. They sing all the songs and go crazy from the start. Old Yankee Stadium used to be like that, loud from the 0-2 count of the first batter on. Now its so expensive its just all suits who don't even show up on time.

It's nil-nil at the 60' mark.

Also earlier: Doug Fister took a line drive off his coconut, which deflected the ball to...where it was headed anyway, medium center field. He shook it off.

The Giants two best pitchers are coming up since they needed them to finish the last series. I really love their chances but they have struggled with Sanchez in the past so their you go.

I would like to see if Posey has taken any tests lately. He came back from a broken leg last year, plays Cathcher (the position wears down the body) and he puts up better numbers since the All Star Break? He is likely getting help from Victor Conti.

Well, in case you haven't been paying attention (and judging from the TV ratings, you haven't), World Series Game 3 is about to start. It's apparently football weather in Detroit, but the Lions wouldn't know that because those pussies play in a heated barn.

Now the Tigers know the Yankees went through not being able to get a hit and put up epically bad hitting numbers.

It's a shame because the first round was so awesome. Game 7 of STL vs SF should have been a classic and when it wasn't it just carried over to the next series.
