Horror Movies

Please recommend me some for the season. I'm currently fresh out ideas, sans Sinister which I'll be seeing this week.

Anything really but Jason 5.

In the Carrie 2013 thread I mentioned "The Loved Ones." I oversold it saying it a mix of Psycho, Carrie, and Texas Chainsaw. Those are all classics in their own rights. However, it's a good satire of horror films that will make you laugh and cringe. The soundtrack/score is excellent!

Wild Zero is a Japanese zombie film I have yet to watch but a friend recommended.

A list of some of my favs:
The Shining
Silence of the Lambs
Let the Right One In
Evil Dead 2
Rosemary's Baby
American Psycho

Not horror but are classics w/ plenty of gore:
Old Boy
Battle Royal

I really don't like horror so I haven't watched many, nor do I like the "so bad it's good" films.

Al Bundy 10-19-2012 04:30 PM

I would also check out Dawn of the dead, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978 version), SleepAway camp 2 (shitty slasher type).

Easy 6 10-19-2012 04:43 PM

The first Hellraiser is a DAMN scary & underrated *ed- not in cult fanboy circles, but you almost never see them on tv - movie, same for Lord of Illusions... so good they're almost too scary for today.

Another great but unheralded one is Pumpkinhead.

Easy 6 10-19-2012 04:50 PM

Another VERY scary story is a recent tv program you can watch if you have On Demand.

Go to sc-fi channel, click Paranormal Witness & watch the REAL story of the Travis Walton alien abduction, interviewing all of the major players. I DARE you to watch this & come away not believing the veracity of every single guy, they would all pass any body language experts tests with FLYING colors, they also all passed lie detector tests soon after it happened.

Depending on how you look at horror I'd suggest The Flock.Actually more of a psychological thriller but good for the season as there are a couple of scenes that had me more than a little uneasy and thinking what if.

I'll probably get hate for this, but the "scariest" movie to me is "Session 9". I'm not easily scared by movies, but I found this movie to be pretty creepy. It's kind of slow, and not really a gorefest at all. More of a ghost movie tbh.

Oh yeah, they took down most of the hospital to build the apartments. I think they rebuilt the steeple part to match the old part of the main building of the hospital. HOwever, I just read that the apartments burned down or something. IT's cursed!

I watched Hellraiser for the first time last night. I always thought it would be scarier. I've never been one that's big on horror movies, as I'm one of those wusses that gets scared and has nightmares. Should I go back and rewatch some of the classics now that I'm older? Will they seem as silly as Hellraiser did?

Don't waste your money. Wait until it comes out on redbox. I'm a total wuss when it comes to scary movies, and I thought it was totally predictable and didn't jump or have to cover my eyes once.

I've made it a Halloween tradition to watch this movie. Absolutely love it.

Simply Red 10-26-2012 07:55 PM

I'm very pleased to have found this thread on the front page.

I just caught myself up on 'The Grudge' trilogy, I'd seen part I at the theater.

I'd like to applaude the director and entire creation from the producers. These last two films were very nicely done from a horror perspective.

The two films (part II & III) didn't fall off. The suspence is damn good and the irony and surprise are very welcomed by these creators. I'm not very schooled on the director. But i'd recommend both - as the horror scenes are very damned creepy. Not what I expected after #1 scared the piss out of me. I'd expected let down.
I don't think the acting was that great - nor horrible. Both II & III, alike; kept the dramatic scenes pretty mellow - so any acting wouldn't be that challenging and practically auto pilot. I noticed they were increase/decreasing the pitch of the volume quite a bit - especially as the suspense increased.
