He begins with his cleats, which he can barely untie without assistance. A Broncos equipment staffer helps peel them off his feet while he does a radio interview, because after nearly 25 years of football dating back to high school, it’s a relief to not have to bend over that far. Next come his shoulder pads, which, when yanked over his head, generate a groan that is a mixture of suffering and sweet relief. Manning’s pale arms and torso are covered in fresh scrapes and old bruises, some the color of strawberries, others a shade of eggplant.

His socks come off after several violent tugs, revealing toes that are twisted and bent into obtuse angles. When he removes a thick blue DonJoy knee brace from his stiff left leg, he twice pauses to grimace and gather himself before stripping it off and handing it to a staffer for safekeeping. As he slices away at the thick layers of athletic tape supporting his ankles, he looks like a surgeon operating on his own leg without anesthesia.

I found this the funniest part.

Abandoning Kubiak’s schemes for Manning’s late in the game against the Chiefs is the only reason Denver is 2-0.
The only reason they won is because Manning told Kubiak to **** off. They were going to lose before going to his offense.

They only won because the Chiefs chose to not value the ball.

Man. I can't stand Peyton Manning. I really can't. But I find it fascinating reading about a guy that's still doing what he does with his body in that kind of shape. It's admirable, really. To love something that much. I won't dislike him so much after he's not a Donkey, but the guy really is a throwback.

And 3rd down conversion percentage

But but but he found the fountain of youth, is back to his healthy self from ten years ago, and has regained his arm strength/Blowmo2724

He's going to be in bad shape in 10 years.

But his family will be financially set for the next 100. I'd take that as a fair trade in any lifetime.

Exactly the info I was being fed from training camp. Imagine come December how rough it will be for him.

Need other teams to hit him, and hit him hard.

People dog Trent Richardson, but the guy is set for life and doesn't have to get his head pounded in anymore.

He wins.

He could have retired in 2004 and been set for life. Maybe he could now bend down and tie his shoes without a problem.

Pasta Little Brioni 09-25-2015 02:52 PM

Well he is not winning a title in Pile High, so he's putting long term health at risk for selfish attempts at records.

Or maybe he was still wearing his flak jacket

New World Order 09-25-2015 03:31 PM

He's going to be in a wheelchair come December
