Release date set. Get ready to laugh hard next Christmas

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/p...-date/1782237/

Anchorman director Adam McKay tweeted news that will delight fans of the original 2004 film.

"It's official. Anchorman 2 has a release date: December 20, 2013," he told his followers. "Very excited."

Judd Apatow, who produced the original film, also chimed in about the news, writing, "One year from tomorrow Anchorman 2 will be in theaters!! It is kind of a big deal." He was retweeted more than 4,800 times.

"We're all coming back – it starts shooting in the spring," Paul Rudd told Access Hollywood at the This Is 40 premiere last week. "I'm very excited for it."

There is buzz that Kristin Wiig may join the cast as a love interest for Steve Carell's Brick Tamland.

Will Ferrell, who plays anchorman Ron Burgundy, told ABC last month that the Anchorman 2 plot will focus on the transition of old-school news to the modern entertainment news of the 24-hour news cycle. "Ron's going to be one of the catalysts of that," Ferrell said.

whoman69 12-20-2012 02:16 PM

I have doubts this is a gag that can keep running through two movies. I could see it more as a TV show that would run in shorter spurts.

Bump 12-20-2012 03:06 PM

looking forward to this.

Will Ferrell ran out of material, they're trying too hard with this. The last one was amazing but idk, this looks iffy.

Talladega was a snooze fest, kicking and screaming sucked, blades of glory was a dud same with semi-pro, the other guys was lame so when you really think about it, only step brothers and anchorman has been good. Everyone thinks just cause Anchorman 1 was such a classic, that he's still that same comic and has ideas that are just as good. The truth is, he's ran out of material and has a hard time playing other characters. People forget that anchorman movie was almost 10 years ago and he hasn't done shit since, maybe step brothers but that's it.

DBOSHO 12-21-2012 06:56 AM

Semipro and the campaign were the only ferrell movies I didn't like.

So because it makes money and it's hyped up, it makes it good? The movies make money, a ton of money, no doubt about that but really lets be serious, the movies in theaters nowadays absolutely suck.

Give Semipro another chance. While Ferrell isn't really funny in that movie, the announcers (Arnett & Daly) are hilarious.

CoMoChief 12-23-2012 03:33 AM

John C Reilly is what made Talladega Nights funny. Same w/ Stepbrothers...Ferrell has to have a good counterpart(s) otherwise both movies are garbage.

That's why Old School and Anchorman are classics....but that's about it IMO. Can't wait for this second one.

Kristen Wiig Joins ‘Anchorman 2′: Castmate

Today Christina Applegate tweeted: “So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for Anchorman 2.” Applegate, returning for Anchorman: The Legend, confirmed a resolution to the reports that Wiig, the former Saturday Night Live breakout and Bridesmaids star, had been in talks to play the wife of Brick Tamland played by Steve Carell. Wiig fits director Adam McKay’s hype that he plans to create “a murderer’s row of the best day players ever … every single one-line or three-line role [will] just be someone we just love.” Sequel is due out December 20th.

They've been promoting the hell out of this movie.

Something tells me this is going to be just as disappointing as Hangover 2 was when it came out.

I sure hope not because I liked the first one a lot. But most of these appearances Ferrell has done as his "Burgundy" character on ESPN, random local news casts, interviews etc, have been really weird and awkward. It pretty much looks like Ferrell was trying too hard to make it funny. A lot of overkill IMO.

Eventually someone gets so popular people start to dislike them from over exposure and the need for many to be a contrarian and different. No denying Will Ferrell is funny

Gravedigger 12-18-2013 09:53 PM

I think when Will Ferrell isn't the star of the movie, when he shares it with someone else he's at his best. Old School, Step Brothers I think were his two best movies. I liked Anchorman and I"ll see this one and probably laugh through 70% of it or so.

I've always thought that Will Ferrell was hilarious. I just find that his humor is much better in sketch comedy than actual movies. His movies are either hit or miss for me. Step Brothers? Hilarious. Talladega Nights? Stupid as ****.

Pretty much if you count on Ferrell to write a joke and deliver it it sucks, but if you take a random joke and have him interpret it...then you you have a chance with it.

CoMoChief 12-19-2013 10:28 PM

Just got back from seeing this. It's worth seeing it if you liked the first one.

A few parts where you're kinda wanting them to just move on to the next scene, but overall it was pretty entertaining.

Steve Carrell doesn't disappoint in this movie. Whatever that SNL chick's name is, the one who plays Carrell's moronic counterpart, plays the part well and they feed off of eachother. The only one thing that is kinda disappointing and is prob a big reason sequels (esp in comedies) aren't as good as the orig is because the orig was all about the character development etc. In the sequel you already know the characters so there isn't that first initial gotcha moment. There's a lot of "I Love Lamp" and that kinda shit from him.

But if you didn't like the first one, I wouldn't see this in theatre. If you liked the first one, then it's worth seeing. Not as good as the orig as the cliche' saying goes...but I enjoyed it.

Gravedigger 12-20-2013 01:15 AM

So many great movies out, Hobbit Desolation of Smaug, Anchorman 2, American Hustle, Saving Mr. Banks, too many choices!

Exactly, I went to see the 1st one with one of my best friend's, and the girl who he had just recently started dating at the time ended up tagging along with us to see it.

I was enjoying myself and he and I were laughing our asses off- she may as well been a dead cricket, because I didn't hear a chirp out of her I don't think for the whole movie. I asked him if she was that quiet in the sack also.

Needless to say she didn't last very long other than being banging attractive, and he knew full well he wasn't sticking with her for long, but she was rather submissive and open to being risqué. For the next 2 months he pretty much made a game out of seeing what she'd go along with such as bjs in the back of cabs, in his office, sex at 1 of her friend's wedding receptions, etc.

I can see this, and kind of agree with you on that- his comedy shorts on funny or die are great, he's always hilarious when doing small cameos like in Eastbound and Down . Not that I don't like his movies, it's just a tougher feat to pull off the staying power for a 90+ minute movie.

CoMoChief 12-20-2013 01:46 PM

For the most part, Ferrell is at his funniest when he's teamed up with another person(s).

Sometimes there's a little bit too much of Ferrell. When he goes over the top stupid I think a middle schooler would laugh at him, but the general public would not.

Pepe Silvia 12-20-2013 02:09 PM

I thought the first one was hilarious but I know a lot of people who hated it. I have to be honest I'm 50/50 on Will Ferrel, like someone already said he's better in small doses.

I loved the first one, but I'll probably wait till this comes out on BR.

The trailers didn't do much for me, biggest laugh I got out of them was when they said Carell's trailer never cashed a paycheck in 5 years or something like that!? Hilarious

dirk digler 12-21-2013 08:12 AM

Went to see it last night and I thought it was really good. Maybe not as good as the first one but I laughed alot. Of course I like stupid humor so that makes a difference. Definitely recommend it.

Saul Good 12-21-2013 09:18 AM

Holy Jesus was this movie a shit fest...

It was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. If I hadn't driven there with a group of friends, I would have walked out. Steve Carrel was an abortion, and the chick they paired him with was somehow even worse. Their entire roles were basically a Napoleon Dynamite and Deb ripoff...except without the humor.

It's pretty obvious that 90% of the movie was improv, but it was like the director had them shoot every scene three times and then just went with it regardless of the fact that there was nothing funny about it.

I love Will Ferrel, but everything about his comedy in this movie has been done 20 times before. How many times do I need to hear him say some zany variation of "Great Ceasar's Ghost" before that horse is declared dead?

Its two hours of these guys saying random stupid things and hoping for a cheap laugh. I absolutely can not fathom how anyone could find this movie funny.

ThaVirus 12-21-2013 10:42 AM

I'm being told Will Smith and Drake make cameos...?
