What? No bring him back in for a year thread?
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-brian-waters/
Longtime guard Brian Waters is officially done with the Patriots. The daily NFL transactions list that was circulated to the media on Tuesday included a note that Waters had been terminated from the Patriots’ reserve/did not report list. That makes him an unrestricted free agent. A six-time Pro Bowler who played for the Chiefs from 2000 to 2010, Waters signed with the Patriots in 2011 and played very well for them, providing some stability on their offensive line and starting all 19 games up to and including the Super Bowl. But he reportedly wanted a raise that the Patriots weren’t willing to give him in 2012, and he never reported to the team. The 36-year-old Waters is now free to see if any other team will pay him what he wanted the Patriots to pay him. More likely, he has played his last NFL game. "I’ve heard rumors that he wants to come back to KC to play had they never signed Scott ***** he would have never left! I say bring him back for 1 more yr!" ROFL |
I wouldn't be the least bit pissed.

How does Brian Waters help this team win a Super Bowl?

I bet he could still play at a higher level than that POS Jeff Allen, but not Schwartz.
|
He's still some gas left but I read he wants close to family in Texas.

The Casey Weigman, Donnie Edwards, and Priest Holmes renaissance experiments never worked.
I doubt this one would. Old farts are old. |

I was wondering what happened to him last year. I hadn't heard that he retired and thought he was active, but then noticed at the end of the year that he never played. I thought maybe I'd missed a retirement announcement last year.
|
I'm more interested in developing tomorrow's line than signing an aging vet. I'd be alright with it if they just didn't think they had anyone who could play the position this year, but I doubt that that's the case.

I loved Willie Roaf as a left tackle, but I would not hire him to decorate my home:

Jesus, I'd be afraid to touch anything in that house for fear of getting it even the slightest bit dirty. |

I also find it notable that he has all those helmets on the bookshelf in his office, with the Chiefs on the top shelf, and I don't see a Saints helmet at all. I'm thinking he's still not very happy with New Orleans. |
Ray Lewis' house has more style, though what's the deal with those dining room chairs? And the ceiling would make me think that I'm living in a big beehive. However, a grand piano always looks good, and he's got some nice views.

He needs a big laundry room for getting blood stains out. And yeah, those elephants do cause consternation. |

So just to recap for anyone who missed it -- Waters missed OTAs and mandatory minicamp, but BB stated those were excused. Then he was missing when training camp started, which was unusual. BB was, as usual, very evasive. Ultimately, he was put on the did not report / reserve list, and his number, 54, was given to rookie Dont'a Hightower. It came out that apparently he was looking for either a raise or to be traded, or both. Rumor was that he'd be willing to play for the Texans, the team closest to where he lives, I guess. The Patriots let it slip (unusual for them), that they'd be willing to bump up his salary from the $2.5MM he was scheduled to make to $4.0MM, and thought that woudl do the trick, but he still never showed. Rumor was he was hoping to be released so he could play, but fat chance of that. Let me be clear -- he was REALLY GOOD in 2011. Played extremely well. Far beyond our hopes, honestly, for a guy that age who was thought to be on the decline. Patriots fans were very disappointed. Pats have now released him. There's also this: Quote:

I support the "start winning now and build a franchise that can sustain it" moves that I think Reid and Dorsey are working on. Forgive me if that's too much nuance for you to handle. |

You aren't winning now with Alex Smith, who takes more sacks than any QB, while developing a line in front of him. You're either all in, or a ****ing dumbass. Dumbass. |
