At the time with high salaries for top picks, swapping 1st round picks with the Pats was low trade compensation. That draft was not top heavy. The chiefs selected Tyson Jackson with the 3rd overall pick. The chiefs probably could have gotten Jackson with the 23rd, which was the Pats pick. Or decided to select a guy like clay Matthews, who was taken with the 26th pick.

I would recommend trading down. I like several of the DEs. I like Everette Brown in the middle of the first. I think he is a good value pick there. I like Micheal Johnson in the second or late first. I think he will blow the combine up. I also like Maualuga in the middle of the first. I think if the Chiefs could move down to the 9-15 pick range and get a few pics that would be the best option for the Chiefs. There is value at DE there.

I'm not terrified of selecting a QB. The better option is to move down and select a possible dominant DE or LB. Why are you afraid of selecting a DE/LB?

So, I would look to free agency to find someone to compete with Thigpen for the spot. I wouldn't want to give it to him. And I wouldn't want to sign an old veteran.

Look what parcells did with Dallas. He came in and signed a vet at QB Vinny Testaverde. And then he built the defense. At Miami, Parcells signed Chad Pennington, and drafted LT Jake Long in the first round. But he picked DE Phillip Merling and DT Kendall Langford in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

How about because this QB class is one of the worst in years. Stafford is incredibly inconsistent and Sanchez had one good year with a weak schedule. He did have a good game against penn state, but it takes more than a few good games to be a #3 in my book.

Also, our defense sucks and we have several holes to fill. If we could somehow pull a jimmy johnson and trade one pick for several then maybe we could build a defense.

Another reason, even if the QBs end up being decent, they probably would not be successful with the chiefs. both sanchez and stafford are pocket passers. the chiefs don't know what a pocket is. every QB that tried to be a drop back QB last year got killed. no chance. Peyton Manning wouldn't have been successful with that line.

just a few reasons for ya.

Why draft a QB that doesn't fit? Sanchez will not be successful with the current line. You would be better off drafting Pat White. He would have more success. All you are going to do is ruin him. He'll probably get injured. Or just be lousy.

Look at Atlanta and Baltimore. Both teams ran the ball out of pro style offenses, pretty bruising running teams. Have you seen us run the ball?

So, you are going to take a rookie QB and say hey throw the ball 40 times a game and win with a bad o-line. Oh.. yeah.. I know you don't have the ability to scramble. Just get rid of it quicker.

Sanchez has no chance. If I were him and we picked him, I would hold out long enough to not have to play this year.

The root of this is more for entertainment than about football. You like to be entertained. It really isn't about building the best team for you. You just want to have a dramatic offense to keep you excited.

You guys are the kind of fans that leave to get food or go to the bathroom when the defense is on the field. You aren't real fans of football. You aren't about winning. You are all about cheering and getting excited for the big play.

If you weren't this way, you wouldn't get so emotional about building a team with a multitude of picks through defense. There is nothing wrong with my idea of building through defense. I'm not the first to have it. You may disagree. But this wouldn't be such a hostile thread if people just disagreed. You care so much because you love offense, not because you love football.

How can you value Sanchez as THAT much better Cassell?

Cassell has one year of experience with a talented team where he put up good numbers.

Sanchez has one year of experience with a talented team in a weak defensive conference where he put up good numbers.

How can you justify that Sanchez is more than half a draft (the pats 1st, 2nd and 5th) better than Cassell?

Its like the gift that keeps on giving...

Swapping firsts in that draft was less than giving up a second round pick. There were no consensus top players. I wasn't a Cassel fan and wanted to trade down to get defense. I did like Fitz. CP sucks at picking QBs. Luck will probably suck bc pest likes him. Everyone he picks sucks.
