NHL and NHLPA reach an agreement - lockout FINALLY over
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...cba-framework/
NHL lockout: Owners, players reach tentative agreement on CBA framework After more than 16 consecutive hours of bargaining on the 113th day of the lockout, the NHL and NHLPA reached a tentative agreement on the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement around 5 a.m. Sunday. “We have reached an agreement on the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement, the details of which need to be put to paper,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said during a news conference, standing next to NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr. “We’ve got to dot a lot of I’s and cross a lot of T’s,” Bettman said. “There’s still a lot of work to be done, but the basic framework of the deal has been agreed upon.” The deal still requires ratification from the players and the NHL’s Board of Governors before it becomes official, but the league is expected to play a 50- or 48-game season that starts no later than Jan. 19. |
dont even care anymore, NHL sucks now
|
And still not a single shit was given.
|
I guess Canadians will be happy, or something.

a sport i dont care about? I've lived in a hockey city for 20 years, I spent like 7 years playing it.
it's turned into a soft greedy corrupt league and it's boring now, the last years stanley cup playoffs were ****ing horrid. |
Yeah, take off, eh? Ya hoser.
|
they waited too long
|
so?
|
Lets go Penguins! Going to be interesting year to say the least.

I'm especially curious to see how well fans turn out to games at this point. Though I'm thrilled the bullshit is over, I've certainly feeling less warm and fuzzy about spending money to go and watch games this year. I'm pretty content going to my little CHL games for $10 a pop.

Eagerly awaiting the next lockout!

We flirted with the AHL but the team folded after like 3 years. |
Well I don't follow hockey but I live in a city that has hockey and would like to go to some games. Just curious how much of the season has been missed and how many games will this season be?
|
Man, I liked the Kings being defending Stanley Cup Champions for 2 years. Oh well, I'm happy for the people down the food chain who were hurting. And I enjoy hockey, so it's all good.
|
i miss the old NHL
|
OH REJOICE!!!!
watching hockey on TV blows......going to live games is a lot of fun. wish KC would have gotten the Penguins... would have enjoyed that more than a NBA team. Though the Thunder would be cool too. |

I admit I'm happy the NHL is back but I admit I'm not happy how quickly they go into lockouts. It just seems like the other day the NHL had a lockout (which caused ESPN to drop the NHL) and now only a short time later to have another one that nearly cost everyone yet another season.
I heard they will likely have a 48 game season now (like the end of the article stated). I'm just glad it is over and hockey is back. |
Glad its back, too bad they waited too long and the Winter Classic is gone.

I remember when this shit happened in baseball, thereafter I hated the sport even though it was my favorite as a kid. Still hate baseball to this day because of it, I can't be arsed to care.
|
Cool. Can we just go straight to the playoffs now?

I'll go ahead and neg myself. |

Should be an act of Congress starting both a union head and league president / commissioner should lose their jobs if they allow a sport to grt locked out.
|
Sadly this doesn't fix their crappy TV deal, and means I still won't be able to see my Av's without paying for it. So frustrating.
|
Football has now overtaken hockey as my favourite sport...........and I am a Chiefs fan so that is saying a lot.
|
Lol, I didn't even know they weren't playing hockey.
|
When sports miss entire seasons like the NHL and MLB it's easy to turn on them. I became a NHL fan for for a period, but after losing a season and lack of TV it's hard to follow. I'm sure it would be a different story had OKC or KC got a team though because for whatever reason I still care about the ****ing Royals.
|
Hope hockey can bounce back.
|
Fehr is like a bubonic plague for any sport.
|
There was a rumor that the big market owners told Bettman a canceled season wasn't an option... hope that's true and hope they're getting just as tired of his bullshit as everyone else.
I've heard the suggestion of making NHL Center Ice or GameCenter free for the season... hope that happens, because after all this bullshit I'm not going to pay to watch the Avalanche. It's a damn shame, too, because it should be a good season. |

I remember back in the 90s when FOX tried to make hockey popular by introducing the glowing puck.
It's a niche sport like MLS. It's never going to be as popular as the NFL or MLB but that's ok. They still have a loyal, passionate fanbase. |

I'm mad as hell about there being another lockout, but at least it seems to be a long term agreement with a mutual option to opt out after year 8.
Here's to no more lockouts. |
LOL. Didn't know they were on strike.

hockey sucks

Pooptacos and midgets.
|
Worst commissioner ever
|
Hockey is fun during the playoffs. I guess that's true of just about all sports though.
|
After the abortion that was the Chiefs season, it's going to be liberating to watch a team in the Penguins who know WTF is going on. Can't wait for the start of the season. As much as I'd like to say I would be "sticking it to them" by locking the NHL out of my interest, I can't. Hockey is like crack to me. I need my fix.
|
No one cares about hockey.

I've got mixed emotions right now. I am still so pissed over this almost happening for a second time. Now half the season is gone. I love enjoying the slow build of the season. Oh well, hockey is back. A month into the season I'm sure it will feel like it normally does.

Canadians are taking tomorrow off to celebrate.....

Enjoy the return of hockey with the 5 other people who were aware it was even missing. Division III womens basketball gets higher TV ratings than hockey. |

Been waiting for this for a long time. Wild fan here. Minnesota finally lands some big name guys and they have a stupid lockout. So pumped to see the pros back in the state of hockey!
|
This is good news. Marty only has so many years left. Let's go Devils!

GD this is what I've missed most since moving to KC. Even living in PHX I caught a lot of Coyotes games. I wish we had a team.

GO KINGS GO!

Hockey is now the 6th or 7th most popular sport in America... before the first lockout, they were 4th.
NFL MLB NBA NASCAR SOCCER MMA? NHL |
I just saw that the new CBA will run 10 years. That really sucks. So we might not get another lock out or strike until 2023? I don't think the nation can make it that long.
