Far Cry 5

Just got an e-mail that they're releasing information about it in a couple of weeks. I've heard rumors that it may be a western. I'll post anything that comes out.

Quote:

FAR CRY 5 IS A SPAGHETTI WESTERN?
According to the latest rumours, Far Cry 5 is set in 19th century America, and is a Spaghetti Western. Yep, you read that right.

The rumour started when the Great Falls Tribune reported that a church in northeastern Montana was set to feature in an upcoming video game, described as a "sequel to an existing global franchise", due to release in September.

This then snowballed with NeoGAF posters providing keen theories on the choice of the church and initially (wrongly) thinking it was for Red Dead Redemption 2, before Kotaku's Jason Schreier corrected them. Schreier then teased "you guys are good!" when somebody suggested the game would be Far Cry 5.

Schreier is a well-respected game journalist who often has detailed information about games ahead of launch. He famously had huge insight into Destiny and its story ahead of that game's unveiling. So this information is certainly worth paying attention to, and thankfully it's only a month before we find out for certain what the game is!

A Far Cry 5 logo has also been revealed via the Ubisoft forums, the lettering all white with red and blue bordering. No other information about the next numbered entry has been revealed as of this time. The series last saw release in 2016, with the non-numbered entry Far Cry Primal, which saw the franchise head back to prehistoric times

Nice find, guys. That would be great if we got two quality westerns (RDR2 and FC5) so close together.

A Far Cry western game would be bad ass, IMO. The Far Cry villains have always been over the top and great.

Have you guys seen all of the alternate endings in FC4? Ubisoft Montreal did an incredible job with that.

If anyone remembers the opening scene in that game, the villain tells you he will be right back and asks you to wait for him. Well, you can ACTUALLY do that as opposed to following the seemingly linear and non-optional prompts and end the game in like 10 minutes. LMAO

Yep, I did it after I beat it the first time.

Here’s everything you need to know about Far Cry 5.

Story

The story of Far Cry 5 takes place in Montana. I explain why that’s the perfect setting in this post (though, as a native Montanan, I’m biased.) You play as a Sheriff’s deputy who has arrived in Hope County only to discover that the entire region has been taken over by a doomsday cult, The Project at Eden’s Gate. Your job is to help rally the locals into the Resistance, and take out the cult. Meanwhile, some locals will take the side of the militia cultists.

The Villain

Far Cry 3 and 4 were both largely about each game’s larger-than-life villain. Far Cry 5 continues that trend with The Father, Joseph Seed, the leader of Eden’s Gate. We don’t know much about him yet, but if the past two games are any sort clue, he’ll probably be one of the highlights of the game. Both Vaas Montenegro and Pagan Min were incredible antagonists.

Gameplay

While we still have much to learn about how the game plays, it doesn’t sound like a huge departure from the formula. Open-world Montana will be a new spin on the open-worlds of the past two games, but there will still be wild beasts, bases to take over, vehicles to drive and so forth.

This time around you can also fly a plane and get into dogfights. There will be Guns for Hire and Fangs for Hire as well, allowing you to recruit both NPCs to your cause and wild beasts. That’s a page from Far Cry Primal, and should be fun. There will also be muscle cars, ATVs and various other vehicles, as well as a wide assortment of weapons.

Some of those weapons will be a change for the series, like a baseball bat

Character Customization

For the first time, players will be able to fully customize their character. This means you can play as a man or a woman and choose your race. I’m not sure how much actual customization you’ll have in terms of shaping your character’s appearance, but I’m thrilled that we’ll have choices.
