What could Zavier Gooden play in our defense?

He's probably too small to play the Ted. I'm also not sure he has the attitude for it (he's a converted DB).

But man, if you could get about 10-15 more lbs on him and a ferocious attitude, he'd be great alongside DJ. Realistically, however, his skills are better suited to take DJ's job.

I love Zaviar and I still think he's going to be a good player at the next level.

O.city 02-25-2013 07:23 PM

TBH, I'd rather have a guy in there that can cover than more thumper. He's gonna have to cover more anyway.

Nice 4.38 for David Amerson at 6-1 205.

Hammock Parties 02-26-2013 08:28 AM

4.46 for Matt Elam!

OnTheWarpath15 02-26-2013 08:31 AM

4.31 for Milliner. Welcome to the Top 5.

Nightfyre 02-26-2013 08:34 AM

Draft experts: this cb class has questionable speed.

Then they come out and promptly smoke the balls off their 40s.

Hammock Parties 02-26-2013 08:38 AM

Dee Milliner at 4.31.

The draft experts have been completely wrong about this ENTIRE class.

You could LITERALLY take the opinions of Mayock, McShay, Kiper, et al and say the opposite and be right.

Pablo 02-26-2013 08:49 AM

Honey badger with a 4.43 and a 4.5.

BigCatDaddy 02-26-2013 09:06 AM

Millner is now the BPA available on the board IMO. Of course I want Geno and the QB spot has more value, but Millner should be the top graded prospect now. Given the gaping hole we have at CB he gave Reid an out on the pick.

So you're sticking with Joekel who was widely accpeted as the highest graded player in the draft?

Nope, I'm drafting Geno. Geno is a better prospect than Milliner. This is yet another example of hyping somebody solely because he isn't a QB. Next week, somebody else will be BPA. They're running out of fallback options.

Bullshit he is.

He's not even universally regarded as the highest graded tackle in the draft.

Kiper came out and said it first, the parrotting masses started repeating him. Now the scouts and adults are in the room and suddenly Eric Fisher and Lane Johnson are building momentum. Guys like Floyd and Richardson are building momentum.

Joeckel is no more of a consensus 1.1 than Smith is. There is no consensus 'highest graded' player in the draft.

That's why you tell the highest graded player crap to **** itself and take the guy that can most positively impact your football team.

Geno Smith remains that guy.

Right. My point was Millner now likely takes his place among those standings. I'm going to have to put a disclaimer on alll my post that I'm all in on Geno #1, but with two months to go I'd like to discuss other possibilities that aren't my favorite and Millner or Floyd are #2. I'm thinking Floyd might be the guy because he adds to 1/2 of what you need to be an elite team with is a pass rush. I think Poe is going to excel in a 1 gap and we have 2 stud OLB's. Adding another excellent 1 gap D lineman could really make this a top shelf D. I also think there is enough depth to get a good CB in round 2 or 3 or pluck a guy from FA. Regardless, my point still stand that I think Millner will be a top most of the BPA boards you'll see coming out after the draft either from the TV talking heads or the online sites, but now it will be Geno and Millner projected to us and hopefully I don't have to see Joekel's name there again.

KCrockaholic 02-26-2013 12:15 PM

Mathieu had a good combine if don't put stock into the bench press.

Mr. Flopnuts 02-26-2013 12:45 PM

I still think Desmond Trufant is over rated, but I'm impressed with that 4.38.

Same here. He's a good that likely looks good in shorts, but not quite the same guy in game.

I gotta say, he has some serious upside though. Could be a boom or bust type guy.

Nightfyre 02-26-2013 02:56 PM

Rhodes: 4.43/40.5 vert/132 inch broad

well, it would have been nice to pick him up in the second round, but he won't be there.

I really think his stock is based on the family name. I watched him the entire time he was at UW, and I don't think he'll be anywhere near his brother. He won't live up to his pick, but he'll play a few years is my guess.

KevB 02-26-2013 03:20 PM

Honestly, do people even watch the combine before "reporting" on it? Read his Milliner summary.

Pauline

Showed terrific ball skills? He sucked today. He dropped several balls. Deion even asked him about it in his interview.

Can't say that I've seen him much in games, but he also was touted for his performance during Senior Bowl practices.

Ball skills has everything to do with putting yourself into a position where you have a chance at knocking the ball down or intercepting it. It has nothing to do with dropping interceptions.

Nightfyre 02-26-2013 03:53 PM

If defensive backs could catch consistently, they would be wideouts.

KCrockaholic 02-26-2013 04:47 PM

Something from myself on Trufant from over 2 months ago

Quote:

Trufant will more than likely be picked a tad too early in the draft this spring partially due to his family background. He’s a big name thanks to his brother Marcus, but just doesn’t appear physical enough to trust every Sunday. He will need to start off in a slot roll for his first year or two in the NFL. Although his speed and quickness is something to be intrigued about, his consistency in coverage, and lack of run game will truly hinder his playing ability in the league. I think he has great upside, and will eventually become a decent contributor for somebody. His style of play is similar to Asante Samuel, or Kelly Jennings. Could he help our Kansas City Chiefs? Probably. But we could also do better with our mid-round picks.

RunKC 02-26-2013 05:14 PM

Wow Johnthan Banks was considered a 1st round CB not long ago. He just ****ed that all up by running a 4.61.

Not true. Playing corner is much more difficult.

Ball skills in the context of the combine setting includes being comfortable handling the ball

This draft is one of the deeper ones I remember. It's stacked at spots we should be targeting.

Coogs 02-26-2013 07:12 PM

Going into today, these two players were considered to be day 3 picks in the draft. Don't know if they will last that long with the numbers they posted today, but they had some pretty impressive stats today.

Slay, CB, Mississippi State

Thomas, S, Syracuse (dude is huge. crazy numbers for a guy his size)

Yep. If we get a QB, the rest of the draft could be MONEY.

According to OTL on ESPN right now, NFL teams are basically asking every player in combine interviews if they are gay.
