For you old school rockers

Cheap Trick and Peter Frampton at Starlight Theatre June 18th

One of my favorite Cheap Trick songs ever

Surrender is weird song for me, in that it has always been part of my 'disposable pop culture' consciousness, then one day it struck me that it is a bona fide rock and roll standard. Very different from the usual route where you secretly bond with a song, then the rest of the world grows to embrace it as a classic.

I'd imagine this is how an ever so slightly younger generation might think of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' as 'that song from Wayne's World' for years before realizing it for the all-time classic it is.

I like Southern Girls off of In Color. Good album.

Peter Frampton @ Starlight was my first show ever.

I think in like 1998 or so.

Peter Frampton was the second concert I ever saw -- 1977 in Greensboro, NC, with opening acts .38 Special and J. Geils Band. Geils was by far the best act that night (this was when they were still a straight-ahead rocking bar band, before their poppy "Centerfold" days).

Saw Cheap Trick at Six Flags in St. Louis on my high school senior trip, 1984.

If you like Cheap Trick whatsoever I strongly suggest checking out the live DVD Silver which was recorded in their hometown of Rockford,Il.The DVD even includes some of the kids of the band singing and playing as well as other stars and one of the local high school's choir and orchestra.

Here's a sample with Robin's daughter that I personally love.

Anyone remember a KC band from the mid-70's called Granmax?

I was rewinding a cassette on my way in this morning and 90.1 KKFI was playing Take You Away by them. That song is the jam. I can't embed it from my work machine.

Cool that you listen to that station!

They have been playing my new A Light Within track so I've heard.

Honestly, I've rarely listened to it. Somehow I had it set to that station so when I rewind a cassette it plays what station the radio is set to. The program this morning, I think it was called Underground FM, was rolling out the jams. They played that Granmax, The Phillistines (KC), and Iron Sunshine.

I definitely plan to listen more and look up their programming guide. I'll likely donate at some point.

That name sounds familiar but I'm not recalling the tune,I remember I think late 70's early 80's KY102 put out a Homegrown album and I'm wondering if they were on there. One band and song I remember from that project was The Clocks...

Doesn't look like Granmax was on that comp. There's a guy, from Shawnee, selling that Granmax record on ebay. I may hit him up for it.

If you can find anywhere to download that Homegrown project please let me know there's a couple of other songs on there I would love to have.

Not a big CT fan, but i will say that Starlight is a great place to see a show.
