Here's the deal I've worked in the food service industry my entire life and i've had some of the best food out there. With that being said I still looove some cheap foods. For instance one of my VERY favorite things to eat is a sausage egg and cheese croissant from BK. I rank that right up there with filet mignon. And yes I know I know I'm just saying it's personal preference and i love that shit.

What's wrong with that? Don't hide... There's are way too many people who think there's a correlation between cost and good. Bah! To this day, my mother's pasta, with HER sauce (yeah she learned how to make it when we lived in Rome!) and meat-loaf will often be what I want. I think Flank steak is hands-down the best cut of meat on a cow, and pulled pork - while always full of flavors NOT the pork - are better than most $70 entrées.

The other truth, really expensive cuts of beef.....only need heat to be as good as they're going to get. They are good (love them!!), but it's an easy cook...

Oh, and add bacon to anything and it's better!

If you've ever seen a clone recipe for KFC Cole Slaw floating around on the Internet it probably looks like this. That's because this replica has become one of the most copied and pasted recipes from my first book, Top Secret Recipes. So, to stake claim to a recipe that's rarely sourced as a TSR original, here's the secret formula to clone the world's best slaw.

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup buttermilk
2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
8 cups finely chopped cabbage (about 1 head)
1/4 cup shredded carrot (1 medium carrot)
2 tablespoons minced onion

1. Be sure cabbage and carrots are chopped up into very fine pieces (about the size of rice).

2. Combine the mayonnaise, sugar, milk, buttermilk, lemon juice, vinegar, salt, and pepper in a large bowl and beat until smooth.

3. Add the cabbage, carrots, and onion, and mix well.

4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Serves 10 to 12.

You really have a book?

MOhillbilly 03-31-2013 09:07 PM

My wife makes a butter milk marinade that I soak the chicken in over night. Its disgusting.

That's what I am talking about...Then they started making those shitty biscuits instead of those rolls.....

R8RFAN 03-31-2013 09:34 PM

I know how they make that extra crispy chicken....

They put the raw chicken in a powder milk and egg dip, then roll it in the flour, then take the chicken and dunk it back in that milk and egg dip and then flour it again pressing the flour into the chicken.. The fried it in a regular fryer, no pressure cooking on the extra crispy...

They kept them in a huge freezer at the distribution center... Back in the day every manager would deliver dry goods to the local KFC's here, one guy owened about 6 or 7 but sometimes I would get to go help deliver those frozen rolls and the truck did not have air conditioning so we put several cases of those frozen rolls in the front seat and you had instant air conditioning...

This is true and no April fools day BS

These were dinner rolls one layer in a plastic bag kinda like the onces you get in the grocery, when you got a 3 piece meal or anything they would put a couple rolls in there too

Yup, their biscuits are not that good to me but here in NC we have such good biscuits most places anyway that it's hard for a national chain to compete

I've probably eaten at KFC three times in the last five years. Greasy as hell, overpriced, and the sides are better at the grocery store deli.

You don't get the quality at KFC anymore but at one time, there was not a better tasting piece of fried chicken on the planet unless grandma made it...

When I was a kid and worked there the chicken was huge pieces and we had customers just come in and get a chicken snack box with one center breast and a roll for lunch.

The chickens now are so small it is actually comical... Whole chicken prices have went up but KFC gets a helluva deal on whole cut up chickens.

tooge 04-01-2013 02:12 PM

I still do FF fried chicken parts once in a while. I'll hit up Go Chicken Go for some gizzards, hotsause, a few butter soaked rolls, and a couple of wings after a round of golf.

Fried Gizzards are the damn bomb

Backwards Masking 04-01-2013 03:53 PM

It's pretty bad when you have to pay $11 just to feel full at a FF joint. As has been mentioned already in the thread, any grocery store copycat has far better prices and quality, hands down.

We do KFC from time to time. My youngest son LOVES the place, so he's always rooting for it. The rest of us don't mind it, but a couple of KFCs near us are also Taco Bells, so people can get whichever they prefer.

Most of my family is a big fan of the mashed potatoes. Well, it's really the gravy that we like.

Personally, I'd be just as happy to never eat any fast food again. I'm sick of the stuff.

This sums up how I feel about all of it, not just McD's.

We used to have a "Broasted Chicken" shack on Blue Ridge Cutoff in Raytown years ago that served great chicken and broasted potatoes like you describe. Yummy.

I still like Stroud's the best in KC, but its expensive, and you have to be near a Stroud's location to get it, either in Fairway, KS or north of the river.

Easy 6 04-01-2013 04:24 PM

Couple things i hate about KFC...

1) HUGE breasts, tiny little legs that are mostly bone... wtf kinda chickens are they raising over there in china for "yum brand foods"?

2) there isnt a greasier, limper piece of chicken in america, that steam fry method of theirs sucks... it turns what should be crispy, delectable skin into some kind of glue-like substance.

3) exorbitant pricing, 10 pieces and a couple crap sides for $20+... get ****ed.

For fast food chicken, i'll take Popeyes eleven times out of ten... much crispier and has a nice tang to it.

gblowfish 04-02-2013 09:32 AM

Every time I think of KFC, I hear Larry Flynt talking in that horrible voice of his about how he used to **** chickens as a young boy in Kentucky.

KFC is where those chickens wound up.....

KFC has really plummeted to the depths of nearly inedible.

This didn't bring me out of hiding.

Well, no wonder they're closing stores left and right if that's the best they can come up with.

I actually went to a KFC for the first time in years, a few months back. It was expensive and the side items are pretty mediocre.

I wish we had a Church's Chicken nearby so I could combine the side items from there with KFC's chicken.

I bet that's one soggy dripping grease cheato. Doesnt appeal to me at all but the young kids have a different palet now days so who knows.

Also Go Chicken Go is going in the Northland at N.Oak and Vivion Rd at the old Taco Bueno location. Ill never set foot in KFC, Popeyes or Churches again.
