Rolando McClain cut

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 46s

Raiders waiving LB Rolando McClain today.

Hammock Parties 11-28-2012 05:06 PM

The Chiefs should sign this guy immediately. He's a perfect 3-4 ILBer. Only 3 guys had higher grades in run defense.

Sorter 11-28-2012 05:07 PM

If Cut i would love the chiefs to claim him.

O.city 11-28-2012 05:07 PM

Wouldn't he fit well next to DJ?

Sorter 11-28-2012 05:07 PM

In all seriousness, he is just a more talented version of Belcher with remedial coverage skills and off field issues.

Sorter 11-28-2012 05:08 PM

So, yeah, he can take Belcher's job. Bring him in

The Bad Guy 11-28-2012 05:08 PM

I'd claim him and put him next to DJ. Guy is a 3-4 backer.

I don't care how much of a headcase he is.

He said he was looking forward to playing for a real team. That instantly means not KC.

The Bad Guy 11-28-2012 05:09 PM

He'd literally erase a need in the draft.

I was also told the Chiefs were taking him in 2010 if Washington took Berry.

Doesn't have a say. He's going to be on waivers.

O.city 11-28-2012 05:10 PM

Doesn't fit the scheme in oak.

Was a stud for bama tho

BossChief 11-28-2012 05:10 PM

He would be eligible for waivers, right? I'd claim him in a ****ing heartbeat. Oakland Has no idea what they are doing.

He would be a perfect upgrade to Belcher.

LMAO

Classic Pioli.

What a reach pick.

Hammock Parties 11-28-2012 05:11 PM

There is no way he will be signed because Pioli strokes off to finding Belcher as an UDFA EVERY NIGHT.

Phil Emery found Belcher, not Pioli.

OnTheWarpath15 11-28-2012 05:12 PM

If he is expended, we should absolutely pick him up.

Huge upgrade over Belcher.

ShowtimeSBMVP 11-28-2012 05:12 PM

McClain signed his contract with the Raiders on July 28, 2010, in time to make the first day of training camp. The contract is estimated to be for $40 million over 5 years

Hunt wont allow this

Mr. Laz 11-28-2012 05:13 PM

wouldn't claiming him would force more of a cap on the raiders? :D

why not

I think he's a better fit in a 3-4 and he's more athletic than Belcher.

Even if we only keep him for the rest of the year

ShowtimeSBMVP 11-28-2012 05:13 PM

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet

An hour ago, Rolando McClain posted this on his Facebook wall: "Officially no longer an Oakland Raider!!"

Iowanian 11-28-2012 05:14 PM

I guess it's possible this is why Kehr was deemed "expendable"?

It's not like he could make the Chiefs suck any more than they already do.

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

Raiders LB Rolando McClain making some cryptic tweets about his exit, but nothing on waiver wire about him being cut or suspended

BossChief 11-28-2012 05:19 PM

Another bonus if we claim him is the defense he was the leader of at Bama is nearly identical to ours.

The bad side, he might help us beat Oakland.

DJ's left nut 11-28-2012 05:19 PM

Not going to happen.

The Chiefs would never actually get that lucky.

Oh wait, yeah this probably will happen and then the Chiefs won't put a claim in on him.

Then again, Scott did say he'd need 53 guys off the street in order to win 2 games, so maybe this would be part of his master plan.

a big hunk of that was paid up front since he was drafted prior to the new rookie cap.

Yeah, but that also means the back end is extremely high.

Look at Tyson Jackson's deal. Sure, the signing bonus was high, but so was the back end of the contract.

Claiming McClain will almost certainly cost more than he'd receive on the open market. We'd also be incredibly stupid not to do it.

BossChief 11-28-2012 05:22 PM

7/29/2010: Signed a five-year, $40 million contract. The deal contains $23 million guaranteed. An annual $250,000 workout bonus is available in years two through five. 2012: $970,000, 2013: $4.005 million, 2014: $5.805 million, 2015: Free Agent

RunKC 11-28-2012 05:22 PM

I bet Ozzie Newsome is on the phone right now trying to do anything he can to get this guy.

He is the perfect fit in Baltimore.

DeezNutz 11-28-2012 05:22 PM

On the surface, this would appear to be a no-brainer move for the Chiefs.

He makes less than a million this year, about $4M next year, and just under $6M in 2014.

The guaranteed money has been paid, except for a $250,000 "workout bonus" each season.

No financial risk here.

claim him so he has to come here

see if he works out, if so then negotiate new deal.

If he sucks or won't negotiate then we cut him

ShowtimeSBMVP 11-28-2012 05:24 PM

Jerry McDonald ‏@Jerrymcd

Raiders at present not confirming anything with McClain, saying he's still ``officially'' on the roster.

ShowtimeSBMVP 11-28-2012 05:27 PM

Steve Corkran ‏@CorkOnTheNFL

Again, Rolando McClain remains on the Raiders 53-man roster. He can't be waived until Thursday, at the earliest.

okcchief 11-28-2012 05:27 PM

This is crazy if true. The Raiders waste so many ****ing picks.

The Franchise 11-28-2012 05:29 PM

Everyone has already said what I was going to say.

If true....claim him immeadiately.

BossChief 11-28-2012 05:29 PM

Our ilb depth is crap...we would almost have to claim him, right?

O.city 11-28-2012 05:29 PM

It makes to much sense to actually claim him

You need to show the fans you still give a shit, he's cheap and a perfect fit

BossChief 11-28-2012 05:30 PM

Haha

Then we wouldn't need to draft Teo and we could use that first rounder on a quarterback.

BossChief 11-28-2012 05:31 PM

Another factor in this: Belcher is a free agent after this season.

RunKC 11-28-2012 05:31 PM

He leaves Oakland saying he doesn't want to play for a horrible team and we think he's gonna show up to play for a historically horrible team?

No way

Try to follow along. He would be forced to come here because he would be a waiver claim.

Iowanian 11-28-2012 05:33 PM

If he's claimed, he doesn't really have a choice.

The selling point is "you get to beat Oakland twice per year when we stop sucking".

O.city 11-28-2012 05:35 PM

I just don't see why not claim him if he's cut.

Wouldn't he actually be a better fit inside than teo?

The Franchise 11-28-2012 05:36 PM

Hali - Johnson - McClain - Houston

Those are LBs that a new HC and GM would love to have.

Pioli has to like a guy's personality to pay him

Ace Gunner 11-28-2012 05:48 PM

I'd expect the Chiefs will put a claim out, but McClain is a MIKE backer, that's his position at Bama. He's too slow to be a cover backer. Somebody 43D will get him.

Hightower plays both inside and outside. Athletic guy for sure

Have you ever been right about anything football-related in your life?

xztop12 11-28-2012 05:57 PM

problem is, his paycheck is big and he's only a 2 down guy in our D. infact we've been playing out 3rd down package more than our base set (which is why our D has looked good lately)

Let's say we hypothetically switch to a 1-gap. Rolando pans out.

We need CB, FS or SS, DE (3-tech). It would be great if we could upgrade at Javier's position and get an ILB who can cover. I don't think Rolando is very good in coverage IIRC

O.city 11-28-2012 05:59 PM

Not sure but is think 1 gaping could create more pressure and decrease our coverage problems.

Oh I am following.

1. Horrible attitude. If things aren't great he's gonna be a baby and blast the organization on social media.
2. He pistol whipped a guy and popped a shot off next to the guys ear. HE ALMOST WENT TO JAIL.
3. He's a 2 down LB who has struggled in coverage.

We already have a 2 down LB who sucks in coverage but is good vs the run. At least he has good character and won't cost a boatload.
