SOC - Launching the "Can Pioli" Food Drive

Save Our Chiefs is proud to announce the "Can Pioli" Food Drive. Starting this Sunday against the Panthers, we want you to bring as many canned food items to the game as you can. We want to donate thousands of canned food items. We will post our collection points later this week. We know this is a tough time of the year for the homeless and those seeking assistance to put food on their tables at home. SaveOurChiefs.com wants to help. Stay tuned for more details on the "Can Pioli" Food Drive!

O.city 11-26-2012 10:53 PM

A positive thing that assholes like athan and Brian Sullivan can't bash us over, still trying to get people to realize and fire pioli

Love it

tk13 11-26-2012 10:53 PM

This is the best idea yet. At least until Pioli's CIA agents find a way to stop it.

There is no way they stop a canned food drive for the homeless. That would be a ****ing pr disaster of epic proportions. lol The national Media will pick up on this big time. Hell, i think non sports writers would pick up on this.

I have the email of the Board Chair at Harvester's, although I'm not sure they'd be inclined to associate with this since they likely have an exisiting partnership with the Chiefs organization that could be damaged.

Yeah - Harvesters is out. We don't want to damage any relationships. We have some pretty worthy charities selected. Charities who normally get contributions from Harvesters.

You should add "expires after 2012 season" on the Pioli can.

Fish 11-26-2012 11:46 PM

You should really check to be sure you're not violating any rules doing that. I could see some kind of non collection of items from outside organizations or some such BS being used to shut this down. If its happening on Chiefs property there might be some special rules for that kind of thing. Especially if you're going to be advertising it all over.

Cephalic Trauma 11-26-2012 11:46 PM

Ideas like this make it hard not to support you guys. This is amazing.

Marty Mac Ver 2.0 11-26-2012 11:51 PM

Its taxpayor funded property and if the Chiefs want to try and shut it down, they'll have a far greater issue on their hand.

I agree and understand with what you're saying but if you think that Pishead and the Chunt look bad now, imagine the headlines the day after they shut down a food drive.

I think it's entirely possible they could say it's not allowed due to some set of rules - probably against selling stuff (i.e., collecting things of monetary value) on the property or something like that.

That said, if they TRIED to stop it, it'd probably make for a pretty negative PR story in the midst of everything else.

Phobia 11-26-2012 11:58 PM

Worst case scenario, we move the thing off property.

MOhillbilly 11-27-2012 12:02 AM

I hope you guys are right. I could just see them coming up with something making you move it off site, just out of spite. Not trying to piss on the plans, I think it's awesome. Just wanted to throw that out. They control the property which means they could justify it however.

I'd ask a lawyer who would give you a decent pro bono answer but, at the very least, incorporate as a business entity or non-profit to make sure that the protections offered by such laws are extended to the organization and, by extension, the founders/operators.

The more on the up-and-up you are, the less effective any attack on your efforts will be.

Just my $.02.

We would be partnered with known charities from the area. There's no way we're taking all that on in 4 days. We're just using our brand name to get cans there and do some good in the community.

I think doing this with an organization that is established (or in their name) is a way to address the requirements of the law below:

http://ago.mo.gov/checkacharity/charitylaw.htm

RINGLEADER 11-27-2012 12:39 AM

And for the record, this is an absolutely brilliant idea.

Here's a rough draft type idea...rent the fairgrounds for parking and charge people 20 bucks a car if they donate at least one can of food and use the money to hire a bus service to shuttle people to the stadium and back.

Save people money and take money out of Clarks pocket at the same time as doing the "Can Pioli" idea.

If not the fairgrounds, are there any other places that can accommodate for something that big?...also are there any bus services that could handle the volume of those logistics?

BossChief 11-27-2012 12:44 AM

We've had exhaustive conversations about this avenue. After you take on the expenses of shuttles, rental, cleanup, security, marketing, and liability insurance, it's a horrible idea. Why would anybody ditch an hour of valuable tailgating time to board a shuttle to save $7 and stick it to the man? They wouldn't. They will just pay the $27 just like they've always done. The biggest problem with shuttles is you pay drivers for a full day to make 5 or 6 5-10 minute trips 3.5 hours apart. If it were just one drop and you're chartering a bus for one hour, that's an easy expense but when you have to pay CDL drivers to sit and wait 3.5 hours, that's another animal.

ClevelandBronco 11-27-2012 12:59 AM

This is really clever. Big props to the guy who thought this up. Huge props.

Maybe you could find a member here who practices law that would handle it on a pro Grbac basis.

We'd rather keep this on the D/L, honestly. The less food the better. I know I only want to lift about 1000 lbs of cans this weekend.

That is a great idea. You are in charge of paying for the shirts we give away. How many are we allowed to give?

They most certainly can. It could easily be construed as solicitation on private property.

This.

Is a BRILLIANT idea because it's a no-win situation for the Chiefs.

They can, and will, ask you to leave because you're soliciting donations on private property. You can't do that without permission, just ask the Salvation Army.

But as you said, if they DO make you leave, they just shut down a damn FOOD DRIVE. That's about as Draconian as you can get.

My guess is the Chiefs will do NOTHING to stop this.

They let a fan with a PIOLI FRAUD sign into the stadium.

They let him stand in a primo seating area and flash it around during the game.

Whoever is running the SS at Arrowhead these days has been given marching orders to allow SOC activities to take place unhindered.
