Steeler-proofing the Chiefs.

How do we improve this team in the 2018 offseason to finally get this team ready to beat Pittsburgh reliably?

Because Pitt isn't going to be where this problem ends. Jacksonville, the Rams, the Titans... any team with a halfway decent OL and a truck of a RB stable is going to plow us.

Does bringing Bennie Logan back really fix our issue?

I think the corrections have to be focused at the linebacker position.

Dee Ford has one year left on his deal. The Chiefs really need to make a priority of drafting a stud OLB this year.

If nothing else, maybe this necessitates the trading of Alex Smith. The dropoff from 2017 Smith to 2018 Mahomes can't be that huge, and if we get a 2nd or (god forbid) a 1st, we could package it with our other 2nd if need be to go get the elite passrusher this team needs.

If we can get a big bodied stud to pair with Houston long term, then Pitt can't just plow through Ford/Zombo willy nilly and maybe the Chiefs can more reliably get to the QB.

Thoughts?

Bell's running style works because the offensive linemen can hold without getting called on it.

RunKC 10-17-2017 10:52 AM

We have an OLB prospect in Tanoh who will probably be ready next year.

Do you want to know why the Steelers beat the shit out of us in the trenches? They have better athletes.

I like Allen Bailey and Nacho, but they get manhandled in the run game vs good OL. We need another guy like Chris Jones to win in those matchups. The Steelers have 2 guys in Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt who are just as strong, big and long as Chris Jones.

Honestly there are guys like that that come out all time.

Adam Gotsis-he's improved the Denver run D big time.
Malik McDowell
Chris Wormley

We could theoretically put Tanoh in that mold but I think he's going to play OLB.

RunKC 10-17-2017 10:56 AM

Plus if Sutton is gonna run this 3 rush bullshit, you need strong massive guys like Chris Jones taking up multiple blockers.

O.city 10-17-2017 11:11 AM

Jones isn't that good vs the run though either

Bailey and RNR are overrated here but I'm not sure it's necessarily a talent thing.

Get in a different front with 7 guys in the box and stop the run. We tend to lose the numbers game when you've got a box safety in there

kcchiefsus 10-17-2017 11:47 AM

**** Tanoh. He was a worthless draft pick.

kcchiefsus 10-17-2017 11:49 AM

Get rid of Sutton and his bullshit scheme.

Beef Supreme 10-17-2017 12:01 PM

Don't spend a bunch of high draft picks on pass rushers if you are going to drop them in coverage and rarely ever let them rush the passer.

RealSNR 10-17-2017 03:04 PM

How often is Sutton having our linemen 2-gap?

Say what you want about Romeo Crennell, but he had us playing some tight ass run defense with JAGs like Ron Edwards and Shaun Smith.

Since Sutton refuses to blitz anyway, I'd gladly take some fatasses right now who know how to plug holes.

Hammock Parties 10-17-2017 03:42 PM

The defense did it's job.

LMAO

Rush defense got their shit pushed in... Yeah, you bet :o)

1) Get rid of Sutton. His defense is nowhere near aggressive enough. We should have made a push for Wade Phillips when he became available.

2) Need some more depth at cornerback, preferably some hard nosed heat seeking missiles who aren't afraid to tackle. I've had enough of seeing Peters meet the receiver at the line of scrimmage and the receiver still finds a way to gain 6 or 7 yards because of shitty tackling.

3) Still need more horses on the DL. Perhaps a better defensive scheme can bring out their talent better, but our DL has room for improvement.

4) Need more speed and talent at linebacker. Hopefully some of our young guys like KPL, Eligwe (sp?), Kpass, Ragland, etc. can develop, but we need depth and don't have time to wait for them to improve. They'll get a chance as the season goes on, and they had better take advantage of it.

Sutton has been plenty aggressive when the situation calls for it.

The Chiefs have a shaky secondary and poor linebackers at the moment.

If he tries to blitz there's going to be some burnt toast on the field.

Black Bob 10-17-2017 07:49 PM

Time for DJ to hang it up.

RunKC 10-17-2017 08:26 PM

KPL and Ragland are good LB's that Sutton rarely uses. It's reeruned for Sutton to line up in the nickel against the Steelers unless its 3rd and long.

FFS our best LB's weren't even on the field. DJ is done and Sorenson is not a mother****ing LB. quit putting a goddamn LB and safety on the field behind only 2 DL and 2 OLB.

You're just begging the opposition to run it down your throat.
