Tier 5: Guys, veterans and place holders

2016: Alex Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jay Cutler
2017: Smith, Flacco, Palmer, Josh McCown, Brian Hoyer, Mike Glennon, Sam Bradford

Flacco needs a bounce-back season after going through expected rough patches in his return from ACL surgery a year ago. He still has no weapons and Baltimore’s defense has fallen off significantly from its stint as a perennial Super Bowl threat and pressure is mounting for Flacco to get back to top form. He’s thrown 17 interceptions in the last two seasons (26 games), which has to stop. This is Palmer’s last stand, after seriously contemplating retirement a year ago. I have tempered expectations, at best, for Glennon in Chicago, and Bradford takes a small step up from a year ago after staying healthy and managing the game with the Vikings.

I take Flacco over smith.

They obviously arent factoring in hidden touchdowns, setting up the punter, and gigabytes.

ModSocks 04-03-2017 10:31 AM

I don't agree.

Smith should be Tier 4 at least. How can you say Alex Smith isn't a "guy you can win with" when he's one of the most winning QB's in the last five years?

ModSocks 04-03-2017 10:32 AM

If there were ever a category made for Alex Smith, it'd be "Guy you can win with".

nychief 04-03-2017 10:33 AM

this is just a dumb exercise. Ryan isn't a top qb? Carr is 2nd tier? He's never played a playoff game. Dak? Give me a break. This is idiocy.

Smith is a guy who won't lose you the game, not the guy who will win you the game.

Alex Smith is stone soup.

You can win with him provided you have a top 10 defense and running game to complement his shit passing.

So where would you rank Carr?

Oh, and I'd guess 90% + of Chiefs fans would take Dak over Smith today.

Dayze 04-03-2017 11:22 AM

you can win with Smith as long as you don't ask him to do anything.
just take the snap, hand it off, and try not to turn it over in the off chance we ask you to throw it more than 4 yards.

the 'you can win with (insert player name here)" is not a flattering distinction IMO.

like if you hear about the new girlfriend of your buddy, but you haven't met her het. You ask another buddy who has and ask for him to describe her and his response is "well.....she's not ugly. Not pretty.....but not ugly either".

Fish 04-03-2017 11:30 AM

Nobody told them about the hidden touchdowns....

Red Dawg 04-03-2017 11:31 AM

Smith is dog crap. No media outlet thinks he can win anything. He's no better than a basement dweller QB.

Step 1: Access thread tools
Step 2: Ignore this thread
Step 3: ?????????????
Step 4: Profit

Dunerdr 04-03-2017 11:35 AM

You can win with smith but you can't win "it" with smith. He's been on some of the best damn teams and not made it.
