****OFFICIAL 2012 FROZEN PIZZA THREAD****

The problem with most frozen pizzas is there are not enough toppings, cheese, or sauce in my opinion.

I just tried Red Baron Classic Crust Super Deluxe Pizza. It's pretty damn good. It is probably my new favorite. Perfect crust:cheese:sauce:toppings ratio. Put some Sriracha on that shit.

What is your favorite frozen pizza?

:hmmm:

This.

RB does it right. And Sriracha is a must.

Demonpenz 03-05-2012 09:16 PM

I like the premade tyson chicken chunks throw that on a cheapo pizza

icepick64 03-05-2012 09:17 PM

mmm cock sauce

SuperChief 03-05-2012 09:18 PM

I haven't had RB in a long time; when I did, I thought it was crap. Perhaps I will partake in some again.

I always thought Digornio (sp?) did it right.

Donger 03-05-2012 09:20 PM

California Pizza Kitchen. Sicilian.

Mr_Tomahawk 03-05-2012 09:20 PM

Presto Pizzaz...and you will NEVER use the oven again.

Easy to clean. Cooks within 20 minutes (no preheating). And most importantly, makes any frozen pizza taste MUCH MUCH better.

all frozen pizza sucks ass IMO and they are jam packed with sodium. What I do, there's this little ethnic shop nearby that sells 12 inch really thin pita bread, makes a great flatbread pizza crust and it costs $1.50 for 5 or 6 of them, super cheap. I either do cream cheese or canned tomato sauce and I buy mozzarella by the brick at BJ's for $6, whatever toppings you want and some spices on top. ****ing delicious and way better than crappy frozen pizzas.

Red Baron Rising crust pepperoni.

Disgruntled_Parent via SR's IP in GA 03-05-2012 09:23 PM

Red Baron tricks a lot of people out due to the asthetics of their box. One of the best printed frozen pizza boxes out there, I like the kick their sauce offers. But the box is what gets ya. Not too terrible tasting though. I just stick to the hamburger topping.

Imon Yourside 03-05-2012 09:25 PM

Just Call Rosatis, best pizza ever man. That being said Red Baron is decent for frozen.

I only eat pizza a couple of times a month anyway, and it's always on a "cheat" day. What you're making sounds good, and I love to cook, but if I'm doing pizza it's in order to get something quick and effortless.

I go w/ quanity, those party pizza's are only a $1 at Hy-Vee. Get 7-8 of those for a freschetta frozen pizza.

If you wanna pay a lot for a frozen pizza, then might as well get a real pizza from carryout.

Love Tim's Pizza in Indep off of 40hwy

at some point though, you have to realize Funhouse is only about 5-mis. from Tims though.

Digiorno Deep dish is amazing. But it takes 50 minutes and it's not good for you at all. Haven't had one in a couple of year and I try to avoid the pizza aisle at the store but that's good stuff.

Interesting tidbit. My first job was at Pappi's Pizza in Lee's Summit. Pappi's, of course, was Funhouse clone. One of the managers when I worked there was Tim, of Tim's Pizza.

And frozen pizza sucks ass.

Cheap little Totinos, hands down. period.

A little extra cheese & toppings, a drizzle of olive oil... awesome, its all about the crust.

jspchief 03-06-2012 07:54 AM

For frozen pizza my go to brand is Jack's. I like the original crust, the rising crust sucks. They have a decent selection of toppings, and it's the right combination of price and quality.

I also like Tombstone, but it's usually a couple bucks more than Jack's.

mlyonsd 03-06-2012 08:04 AM

Logical put me onto CPK's BBQ Chicken which is pretty good and something different than my normal pepperoni/sausage. For frozen it's good. I don't think there's a frozen out there that does pepperoni/sausage well.

Hays 03-06-2012 08:13 AM

Totinos
then red baron
then tombstone
then rest

Jack's I can't stand the sauce.

RockChalk 03-06-2012 08:40 AM

For thin crust frozen, The Dish (KC company) makes the best. I know they're available in HyVee's.

Totinos and Como. Yup thats not surprising.

I like the little imported Italian organic 4 cheese pizza from Trader Joes. actually from Italy and like $4. But tastes pretty damn good.

sedated 03-06-2012 08:44 AM

I used to be a Jack’s man myself, but have grown tired of their sauce.

I recently picked up a few tiny $1 pizzas from Price Chopper, called Mama something. Awesome.

Palermo’s Primo Thin is damn good too.

When I worked for Walgreen's out in Washington/Oregon they added it to their basic set (which means they always carry it). Since they do a lot of things nationwide I might check there. No guarantees though.

Pita pizzas can be pretty good. You should try hummus instead of cream cheese or tomato sauce.

Inspector 03-06-2012 09:37 AM

My uncle made pizza's in a bar around 39th and Westport road in the 40's and developed a great recipe. This was, of course, before we had any pizza shops around. Over the years my family has refined the recipe / spice blend so we usually only eat pizza's made from scratch including the crust, a particular sauce and the right ratios of certain spices in the correct blend. Plus toppings of course.

I can't imagine a frozen pizza being anything like real pizza. Yuk!

Once in awhile, when we feel like pizza and don't want to go through the trouble of fixing it, we have had Fun House. Not bad for a premade pizza. Sometimes my wife will get delivery pizza for the grandkids. All of that stuff is gross. To me.

The Dish is good frozen pizza. Their thick crust is good as well, but I am a thin crust guy in general. One of these days I will make it up to Liberty and have a pizza at their restaurant.

Home Run Inn is another good pizza. Costco used to carry them, and Hy-Vee had them for awhile as well. Have not seen them in stores for awhile, wonder if they went out of the frozen pizza business.

Totino's used to be good, but they changed their hamburger a few years back, and now the hamburger pizza sucks ass.

And when I say good, I mean good in a cheap and easy dinner kind of way, a lot worse things you can get for a dollar.

My understanding is that when the original owners of Pappi's (Frank and Patty) sold the business, the new owners changed the recipe and it sucked. I never tried it, just going on what people told me. I guess they are under new ownership again and it is better. I'll have to give it a try sometime. I pretty much stick to Fun House anymore though. I should give Tim's another visit too. It's been many years since I've been there. It's not exactly a short drive from where I live.

The Hy-Vee in Raytwon on 350 did not have any Shakespeare's in stock the last couple of times I have been in. I had that a couple of times last year, and it was pretty good. A little pricey, 8 bucks for a frozen pizza.
