The Boogeyman (2023) on Hulu right now was pretty decent. Apparently it was based on a short story by Stephen King.

It didn’t do anything new but I thought it hit most of the horror notes well.

Legion….for we are many.

Still sticks with me from the book, 35 years since I read it!

I don't know about a whole list of 100 but #1 would easily be Troll 2 for me. It's a real psychological thriller.

I think I will watch a Friday the 13th tonight.

"The Dentist" with Corbin Bernsen wasn't a "good" movie, but it sure as hell made me cringe during the tooth-related torture scenes.

Terrified - from the same writer/director as When Evil Lurks that I posted above

I won't call it a prequel but its the same premise. Evil possession

Both of these are really good. Well written, filmed, scored, and acted

Went and watched Five Nights at Freddy's earlier today with my daughters. Wasn't sure what to expect, but it damn sure wasn't this boring mess. Feels like that movie should have been rated G. The best thing I can say about it was that it was thankfully short.

Meh. It's made for kids. I know my son is excited to see it with his friends (16) as this game was HUGE when he was a small kid. Only makes sense that it's child appropriate.

I'm working on the FNAF campaign and this is a movie for fans of the games. If you expect anything else you're in the wrong theater.

Also we're breaking records so giving fans of the games what they want isn't a bad idea.

• $78 million domestic opening/$52.6 million international weekend
• Biggest horror opening of the year
• Third-biggest horror opening ever, trailing only the two IT films
• Biggest opening for a PG-13 horror film ever
• Biggest Blumhouse opening ever
• Second-biggest video game adaptation opening ever, trailing only MARIO
• 19th Blumhouse film to open #1
• Biggest Halloween weekend opening ever
• Biggest opening ever for a film on Peacock

My son was big time into it when he was younger. He's got FNAF plushies and so forth. I still remember xmas shopping for FNAF T-shirts etc. All his cousins were big into it too.

I gave the game a few tries just to see what all the fuss was about. Had a real hard time giving a shit about the game.

Watched this last night.

Foreign movie, so you can expect foreign movie things. The kind of disturbing deaths that you really don't see in American horror. Like other foreign horror, you don't finish the movie feeling very good. It's dark, it's twisted. It wont be for everyone because of the ending, but i enjoyed it. Would recommend.

Watched this last night. Wasnt as good as the first couple. The main characters were annoying.

The clowns are still creepy, but there's no new territory here......just a bunch of backstory (origins in the title) to get you to where it all started apparently.

Wanted to love it, didnt hate it, but as I said, nothing really new.

ThaVirus 11-05-2023 07:18 AM

Insidious: The Red Door was surprisingly decent.

I mean, it’s more of the same from the Insidious franchise so if you like the others then you’ll enjoy this. Narratively I don’t think this movie needed to be made but they re-opened the story and then closed it pretty cleanly. There were some decent jump scares.

Watched it last night and this is where I fall too

There were some creepy moments for sure but the main characters couldn't sell the story for me and I was just pretty much waiting around for someone to just slaughter them already

Still a decent watch but seems to have runs its course

KCUnited 11-05-2023 07:45 AM

One to steer clear of is Night of the Hunted

Conspiracy nutter, active shooter sniper outside of a gas station in the middle of nowhere vs west coast feminist who's trapped inside the gas station

They communicate back and forth over a walkie talkie with each trying to explain their "side" while he takes shots at her

Complete train wreck of an idea for a horror/thriller movie

Only thing going for it is if you squint hard enough Camille Rowe is b-side Margot Robbie and there's a few bits of gore but I'd avoid it altogether

The Nun 2 wasn’t as good as the first but had some decent, cheap jump scares if you’re into that sort of thing.

Also, they brought back Frenchie from the first one, which I thought was cool.

I was impressed with "Talk to Me," a low-budget Australian movie about teenagers who have parties where they use a zombie hand to let themselves get possessed for kicks. Needless to say, it does not end well.

Along the same line is "Brooklyn 45," a post-WWII seance movie where each person has their own dark secrets. The FX are a little Haunted-Mansion-ish but the actors are incredible.

It didn’t age well but the idea of the 13 Ghosts was a really cool concept. The Jackal used to scare the shit out of me.

I’d watch an anthology shining light on some lore for each of them, honestly.

"An American Werewolf in London"

Holds up incredibly well for a 20+ year old film.

10/10

  • Innovative Special Effects: The movie is renowned for its groundbreaking use of practical effects, particularly in the werewolf transformation sequences, which were created by Rick Baker. These effects were cutting-edge for the time and still hold up remarkably well today, even in the age of CGI-dominated filmmaking.
  • Balancing Horror and Comedy: Landis skillfully blends horror and comedy elements throughout the film, creating a unique and memorable tone. The movie can be genuinely frightening one moment and then shift seamlessly into moments of dark humor the next, providing a refreshing and engaging viewing experience.
  • Strong Performances: The performances by the cast, particularly David Naughton as the American tourist David Kessler and Griffin Dunne as his deceased friend Jack, are integral to the film's success. Their chemistry and believability help to ground the supernatural elements of the story in a relatable human experience.
  • Engaging Storytelling: The film's narrative, while rooted in classic horror tropes, offers a fresh take on the werewolf mythology. Landis injects elements of social commentary and existential dread into the story, giving it depth beyond simple scares.
  • Cultural Impact: "An American Werewolf in London" has left a lasting impact on popular culture, influencing numerous subsequent horror films and TV shows. Its iconic imagery and memorable quotes have become ingrained in the collective consciousness of horror fans.aintain its status as a beloved classic in the horror genre.

Thanksgiving - fun little movie with some recognizable faces. Executed perfectly for that gore/humor style of horror movie

Saw X - as expected with some wild ways of people dying but way too much story for me. No Saw movie should be 2 hours

The Last Voyage of the Demeter - should've been way creepier but the whole thing felt super bland and boring

Man, I started Thanksgiving the other week, and normally stuff like that has bothered me, but the first half hour was pretty grotesque. Maybe I'm just getting old. LMAO

My wife and I watched Night Shift last night on Prime, not too bad. The lead actress is FAP worthy.

ThaVirus 04-08-2024 04:42 AM

Night Swim was probably better than a movie with a premise so absurd had any right to be. Had some cool, tense shots with the camera half-submerged and I liked the bits with the Asian family - thought that could have been explored a bit more.

Otherwise, it had too many unintentionally funny moments to be considered a decent movie. Like, one of the pool entities literally looked like Danny Devito. Not even joking.

That flick really is the barometer for a horror/comedy. It's perfectly balanced between the laughs and that creepy-to-your-soul moments. The best friend is trying to help, the main characters can sense the evil looming, and the story of what's to come told through your best friend as a harbinger...

You'll Never Find Me on Shudder is a good watch

More unsettling and tense than scary. Its filmed and scored really well and keeps you guessing throughout. Its a really well thought out and creative slow burning creeper

LOL! I am currently watching "Dawn of the Dead" 1978! Really a fun movie that goes south in the end!

ThaVirus 04-30-2024 08:52 PM

Original Dawn of the Dead is on YouTube actually. I watched it for the first time a few months back.

The 2004 remake is one of my favorite movies of all time but I have to say, the original was too slow for me. I didn’t like it at all.

I totally get it! BUT, this was in my era so. Yes, I did see the 2004 version and liked it also! Yes, I am watching in on YouTube! :thumb: Just a fan of the "oldies".

Such a fun concept.

I'd love to hunker down at the nearby mall during a zombie apocalypse.

Also, fwiw, Land of the Dead is an underrated movie.

idgaf.

Hell yeah, it is a super fun concept. Even the scene in 28 Days Later where they play a version of post apocalyptic Supermarket Sweep was fun.

There’s something about having free reign in a place like that..

Also, Land of the Dead was fun. I was a little disappointed after how much I loved Dawn of the Dead, but it had fun moments.

Just watched back to back F’d up movies.

Martyrs (the American version) and Poughkeepsie tapes

Martyrs was excellent. Tapes was ok but both are not a “fun” watch by any means

A bit of torture pron. but martyrs was really well done.

Premise starts with a young girl escaping shackles in a tented area in a warehouse and ends up in a catholic school for foster kids.

Where it goes from there I won’t spoil anything, but it’s good.

Ah, torture movie. Gotcha.

The 28 Days movies are so great.

Cillian is top notch.

There was a rumor going around there was eventually going to be a third one.

That would be incredible.

28 Years Later. Apparently it’s finally happening.

It’ll retcon 28 Weeks and just be a direct sequel to 28 Days. No Cilian Murphy though, unfortunately.

I enjoyed her getting sexually assaulted by a snowman in the bathtub in Jack Frost. Good movie.

I won't say she looks horrible now because she doesn't but something about her looks off. She almost looks too thin but there is something about her face that is off too to me. It also sounds like maybe she has just a touch of crazy too. She "Manifested" apparently.

Do not waste your time on "The Jester".

A guy in a creepy mask.......has supernatural powers never explained......nor explaining his connection to the main characters.

Just ungodly awful.

So im halfway through the original version of Martyrs right now.

This is a French movie. I had to stop and check.

If anyone is familiar with French shock-horror movies then you should know exactly what to expect here. It goes without saying.

Rausch 05-15-2024 05:15 PM

I enjoyed Late Night With The Devil.

As someone said earlier it was like a Tales from the Crypt or Twilight Zone episode done right. Not ground breaking or exploring much new but it was good. Solid low budget horror.
