Would you draft Tyrann Mathieu?

Looks like he'll be entering the draft.

I'd definitely take a chance on the guy. The question is: what round do you take a stab at it? Round 3, imo.

Sorter 11-29-2012 07:02 PM

Not before the 5th IMO. Guy can't play man coverage.

Marcus Lattimore is supposedly going to declare also... 1st round talent that will be there late due to injuries

After that injury, who knows if he will ever be the same.

I point to Willis and say "Draft that mofo in the 5th/6th/7th round!!!!!!"

The Franchise 11-29-2012 09:05 PM

Mathieu in the 7th.
Lattimore in the 6th.

DJ's left nut 11-30-2012 12:18 PM

With the #1 pick in the round, 4th is probably too high. There will be some legitimate starting caliber players to be found on the O and D lines there.

I'd use our 5th on him and install him as a NCB/Returner.

He'd essentially be what Javier Arenas was supposed to be, only he'd actually be a premier returner and he'd be taken in the round you're supposed to take guys like that.

Lattimore, OTOH, I'd strongly consider in the 4th. I know it's risky, but man medicine does some amazing stuff. He could be an amazing runner and it sure would be nice to have him in the pipe for the 2014 season.

If McGahee went in the first, Lattimore will probably go in the 2nd.

Nightfyre 11-30-2012 03:08 PM

Jonathan Franklin from UCLA is someone we should pursue, imo. Good vision in games I saw him, and from what I read he may be flying under the radar.

KurtCobain 12-05-2012 01:50 PM

No thank you.

Bewbies 12-05-2012 05:07 PM

If I'm using a late round flier on someone that has issues it's Lattimore.

Draft Austin (WVU) and give Honey Badger the finger.

Nightfyre 01-01-2013 07:36 AM

I wanna throw this out there: Tyrann Mathieu as a free safety.

The dude may struggle in man coverage. He may be small. But he is a ball hawk who packs a punch.

Eh...no.

There are some really good free safety prospects in:

Phillip Thomas, Fresno State
Bacarri Rambo, Georgia
TJ McDonald, UCLA

and I'd even put Florida State CB Xavier Rhodes in that group as well with his great size (6'2", 217 lbs).

The kid obviously has great instincts, but there is no way in hell that he's going to play anything other than PR/KR at the next level. At 5'8", 180, he would be absolutely destroyed at FS and lacks the height to play CB.

With a team that already has Arenas, McCluster and Wylie, Tyrann would be a redundant pick.

And add to it that he's a junkie. Can't stay away from it. You are talking about having to baby sit a punt returner. No way I'd waste a draft pick on that.

Rudy tossed tigger's salad 01-04-2013 09:23 AM

Only if we move him to RB/WR/KR. I love those type of players

KCFaninSEA 01-04-2013 10:18 AM

Not worth the hassle IMO.

DaKCMan AP 01-04-2013 01:33 PM

No. Off the board.

whoman69 01-05-2013 05:36 PM

Not a chance in hell unless you're looking for a pot party.

This.

Rambozo 01-16-2013 07:35 AM

He's a nickelback imo. I'd take him in the 4th.

WhitiE 01-16-2013 08:29 AM

UDFA

Reaper16 01-16-2013 08:50 AM

If I was really in the mood for a backup free safety/return specialist and I didn't care about character in my organization, I'd think about him in the 5th or 6th round.

I really don't see him sticking at corner in the NFL. He was not a good corner in college. His ball skills and playmaking ability would play better at free safety.

I agree his skills translate more to a FS role. The problem is he's 5'9, 175lbs, not very fast, and doesn't have a great vertical. On top of that you have the character issues and I wouldn't draft him.

Mr. Flopnuts 01-16-2013 02:27 PM

Zero interest in honeybadger. Lots more interest in Lattimore. I'd take a mid round flyer on that guy. In a heartbeat. As has been stated, that's 1st round talent and modern medicine is doing some crazy things these days. Worth a shot if he's around IMO.

Chief Roundup 01-16-2013 02:54 PM

UDFA then I would be interested.

Predarat 01-16-2013 03:15 PM

Easily in the late rounds, possibly in the early rounds. 4th at the earliest.

CoMoChief 01-16-2013 03:51 PM

I'd take a 6th on him..., possibly a 5th depends on how good of shape he's in.

That or very late 6/7 rounds.

Omaha 01-22-2013 09:41 AM

Stop it. You MUST call him the honeybadger.
