Eminem to release Marshall Mathers LP 2

http://m.usatoday.com/article/news/2698383

Pretty ballsy title.

Consistent1 08-25-2013 11:41 PM

Sometimes I wish he would just quit. He was insane in his day. He is already just loaded beyond belief. A band like Lamb of God can just go on and on. But all the shit talking rap stuff is another story.

ThaVirus 08-25-2013 11:45 PM

I thought Recovery was a good album; definitely a step up from that shitfest he called Relapse.

Ill welcome anything Em does until he starts consistently putting out trash. He's one of the best rappers ever so I doubt that day will come.

AussieChiefsFan 08-25-2013 11:48 PM

Definitely looking forward to this one. If it's anything like his old stuff it'll be incredible.

KC native 08-26-2013 12:15 AM

Meh, I don't think he has it in him to make that good of an album again.

The Royce and EM EP was good, but MM LP2? I just don't have the faith he has enough to rap about to make it good.

Yeah, he's definitely putting a lot onto this album, naming it that. One thing is for sure though, if he makes the kind of songs in this album as he did in MMLP, it won't be very radio friendly. Which IMO is a good thing.

Sweet Daddy Hate 08-26-2013 12:29 AM

I never understood the hype around this guy. Just because Dr Dre likes you, you're good?

His voice sounds like absolute shit for the genre and his mixes sound like a ****ing Casio from 1987.

This guy ****ing sucks.

no way he can recreate the magic that was in that first MM album.

thats one of the best rap albums of all time IMO.

I actually prefer The Eminem Show.. But they are both amazing. This is real ballsy though.. Pretty much him declaring that he is back to his old self.

Em's better now as a technical rapper than he's ever been. But his songwriting has been shit for going on a decade now.

Quesadilla Joe 08-26-2013 12:08 PM

All his stuff sounds the same right now. He's always yelling. The last Eminem song that I liked even though it's REALLY ****ed up is this...

I think 30 years from now, I will still be listening to Crimanl from the MM LP1, Superman, soldier, say goodbye to Hollywood, untitled.....those are just a few of my faves off the top of my head.

KC native 08-26-2013 12:58 PM

I'm sorry. I don't get how anyone could like the Eminem Show better than the Marshall Mathers LP.

Dr. Gigglepants 08-26-2013 01:04 PM

Will definitely listen to this. I actually just "discovered" the Royce da 59 album they released a couple years ago. I like it so far.

I can't see it.

It's MMLP, then a significant drop to SSLP, then an enormous gap for the rest of his catalog.

I just don't think he has it in him to make another album like that. Artists are lucky if they make an album half that good once in their career. Doing is twice is not only ambitious, it's incredibly unlikely.

Pretty much this, but there were more than a few great songs on the SSLP that didn't get any attention at all.

MMLP was amazing from start to finish, but I can listen to and have an appreciation for almost every single song on SSLP.

Yeah I know it's not the popular opinion but it's close for me.

Sing for the moment, cleaning out my closet, soldier, without me, hailies song, superman, when the music stops, and til I collapse are all hits.

hometeam 08-26-2013 01:49 PM

Soldier is my favorite, but he has a musical mountain of great songs.

Eminem is the GOAT

Deal with it~

ThaVirus 08-26-2013 01:52 PM

Didnt the Marshall Mathers LP go diamond?

How many other hip hop albums have done that?

Don't get me wrong. SSLP is a fantastic album. It's so raw and very, very pivotal for the time it was released.

I really enjoy SSLP.

MMLP is just that much better. It's one of the best hip-hop albums of all time. I don't think that's really disputable.

Personally I like them all. MMLP is definitely my favorite though, and SSLP probably my least favorite now but liked it a lot when it first came out.

Priest31kc 08-26-2013 03:09 PM

Em's always been one of my favs...but he hasnt been the same since The Eminem Show...

Marshall Mathers LP is my favorite definitely, followed by SSLP & then TES. Then it drops off considerably w/Encore, Relapse & Recovery...

While hes still one of the better rappers out there, I dont really like his Recovery era style of rapping where he's yelling & screaming a bunch of corny punchlines all the time, its definitely getting old.

Really hope he goes back to his MMLP style of rapping on this one...Wasnt really feelin the accents on Relapse either although theres some good songs on it (Beautiful, Stay Wide Awake, Same Song & Dance, Deja Vu)...

And Encore was just very mediocre with some terrible terrible songs on it.

But SSLP, MMLP, TES>>>>> Great trio of albums.

Yes, his problem is subject matter. He's too old to attack the young pop stars. He's been a recluse the last several years, and people are tired of hearing him rap about pills.

I really don't see how he could put something together that's even close to MMLP as an album.

Meh.

Honestly sounds like it was written for the "Recovery" album. The flow and delivery are exactly the same as several other songs on that album.

Not that i disliked "Recovery", but i was hoping for his classic sound, not an extension of Recovery.

I haven't met a black dude that DOESN'T like him. Hell, even "The game" came out and called him the greatest rapper alive. His music doesn't have color boundaries.

Urc Burry 08-26-2013 05:07 PM

Yeah I've never heard about black people not liking Em. And I remember that interview the Game said if Eminem would of went in on him at any point he wouldn't of even tried to reply. And just a couple weeks ago Kendrick Lamar still put him in the same class as Andre 3000, jayz, and nas

MTG#10 08-26-2013 05:36 PM

All my black friends hate him. Well I only have 3 but still...

ThaVirus 08-26-2013 05:38 PM

I've known a few black people that seemed to think he wasn't as good as his hype would suggest and also knew a Spanish guy that always claimed that he would be just another rapper if he were black.. But I mainly hear people giving credit where its due.

ThaVirus 08-26-2013 05:38 PM

.. And whether or not you like his music, EVERYONE loved 8 Mile.

Mav 08-26-2013 07:02 PM

He is in a class by himself, and yeah, obviously some of it has to do with the fact that he is white, but hes cold.

He really is.

At his peak, Em was as good as they come. Unbievable lyrical content, word play, and flow. I'm extremely guarded against the whole "rap's better when a white guy does it" phenom (see my comments on Macklemore in another thread), so I'm not praising Em because he's white. He was just that good.

The third verse of Rock Bottom off the SSLP is about as perfect as you can get lyrics wise. I don't think it could be improved upon what so ever. The tempo, painting a picture with words, etc.

I really hope this album brings back good lyrics, his first albums had so much originality written into them, some of the lesser known tracks off infinite are so damn impressive lyrically, his last few albums had some powerful songs as well but they were nothing compared to having entire albums where every song has them.
