Wonder what this means for Mitch Morse's concussion

Could be more about the loss of LDT. Or a backup/replacement for Erving at LG.

Rain Man 10-16-2018 09:09 AM

This is unexpected.

RunKC 10-16-2018 09:10 AM

Morse is out with a concussion for awhile and LDT is done. Our depth is basically Devey and Wylie bc McKenzie is not ready.

Allen is a good move IMO. Cheap, knows our system and can perform well.

T-post Tom 10-16-2018 09:10 AM

Houston Texans
On March 9, 2016, Allen signed a four-year contract with the Houston Texans.

On May 11, 2018, Allen was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list after dealing with concussions and ankle injuries. On July 13, 2018, Allen was released by the Texans with an injury settlement.

It does seem like a good move. I just hope Morse can come back sooner rather than later.

Also, I wonder when McKenzie will be ready... because I've heard good things.

Strongside 10-16-2018 09:12 AM

I like this. I always liked Allen when he was here, and he's a solid, solid player in the run game. If he's healthy, this is a good pickup.

He's also a fantastic Twitter follow and has been a Chiefs fan online since his injury.

Hope he's healthy, but I suppose it's good news that he wasn't let go because he sucked.

ptlyon 10-16-2018 09:14 AM

Does he get his old locker back?

I bet he's got a hidden snickers or something somewhere in there.

Sweeping Zombo, Parker, Allen from the edges of my mind
Had to get away to see what we could find
Hope the days that lie ahead
Bring us back to where they've led
Listen not to what's been said to you

Would you know we're riding

Jared Allen wouldn't be a bad idea either, come to think on it.

I thought Jeff Allen retired or accidentally shot himself or got arrested at a hotel while experiencing a mental breakdown in the lobby or something.

Have I confused him with another Jeff Allen?

"Jeff Allen" just sounds like the name of a guy you hire off craigslist to fix a leaky faucet and next thing you know all the copper wiring has been torn out of the walls and he's nowhere to be found

WhiteWhale 10-16-2018 09:28 AM

I remember Jeff Allen being decent in his contract year and a complete and utter liability for the rest of his KC career.

ZZZZZzzzzZZZZzzzz

TEX 10-16-2018 09:29 AM

Hmmm...Not sure what to think here. Allen's play was very bad last year with the Texans, and of course he got hurt. Maybe, since it appears to be for depth, it may work. But not wise to count on this brokedick for anything significant.

Frosty 10-16-2018 09:30 AM

Over/under on the number of plays he's in before he gets injured again?

Good question about McKenzie, I’d completely forgotten about him. He did look pretty good against scrubs in the PS.

TwistedChief 10-16-2018 09:44 AM

The clues:
Parker.
Zombo.
Allen.

The puzzle:
Who else has abandoned us in the Reid era who:
a/ is still available?
b/ hasn't curb-stomped a relative's boyfriend? (Sorry, Sean Smith.)

Your move, Veach.

Rain Man 10-16-2018 09:46 AM

Was Paul Allen his dad? I could see him needing the money if he's been orphaned.

pugsnotdrugs19 10-16-2018 11:02 AM

I love this move. We're getting thin on the OL but he knows the system somewhat and was pretty good here at the end. He can maul a little bit.

I'd expect him to start sooner than later as I doubt LDT is coming back this season.

Mahomes didnt get sacked one time Sunday night while having a backup center and guard in there for a good chunk of the game. Most of that is because of his pocket presence, but still. A shot in the run game would be great to have.

Some of that is because the Patriots defense isn't that great.

Yes but still, they did their jobs and did good enough to win.

Hopefully Allen comes in, Morse returns, and we're back to having a legit enough line to protect decent against anybody.

htismaqe 10-16-2018 11:23 AM

Allen knows the system and is a capable backup until some guys come back.

Mahomes is an offensive lineman's best friend anyway.

pugsnotdrugs19 10-16-2018 11:25 AM

Ah ... now that I've percolated on this, I don't think it was Allen that got arrested after a semi-violent episode in a hotel lobby. I think it was the other guy ... the one that used to play LT for us and signed with Miami.

Can't recall his name. I think he retired twice or something.

Morse is a good player (stands out in the screen game which Wally loves).

This last injury wasn't his fault, though ... at all. That NE dude should have been flagged for unnecessary roughness, the bastard.

He may demand less money due to the injury issues. I'd keep him if possible.

On the other hand, Morse is a pretty smart guy. He might just decide that 2 concussions are enough.

FAX

gblowfish 10-16-2018 12:09 PM

Morse got blindside blocked by Hightower way away from the play on Mahomie's last pick. It was dirty, like when Stevie Johnson of Buffalo took out Eric Berry's knee in Arrowhead. The O-Line won't forget that next time we play Hightower. Somebody will avenge that play. Allen if healthy will be a nice addition. Our O-Line doesn't have to be as solid now because Mahomes can scramble and buy extra time. Jordan Black, who wore #65 when he played here, was nicknaned "I-65" because he was the quickest route for a DT to the QB. Do Not Want....

Devey did play well, but he missed a couple pull blocks that Morse makes in his sleep.

BossChief 10-16-2018 02:08 PM

That’s good news. He’s a solid and versatile OL.

They will put him at RG and leave him there. I remember his exit interview and he said that he wanted to go somewhere where he wouldn’t have to keep changing positions. He will be solid at RG for us the rest of the year, if he’s healthy.

Why? OL depth is piss poor on every team in football. Most teams can't even field a decent starting offensive line.

Hoover 10-16-2018 04:14 PM

I thought Allen left Houston and got an injury settlement.

Hoover 10-16-2018 04:16 PM

"The Texans' injury settlement for former starting offensive guard Jeff Allen was $959,143.
The Texans released Allen from their from reserve physically unable to perform list this summer.
Recommended Video

Allen dealt with concussions and ankle injuries over the past two seasons since joining the Texans on a four-year, $28 million contract. The deal includes $12 million guaranteed."

How does this process work? Seriously, I love EB, but I'd take the cap space at this point.

For the injury settlement they have to get hurt before the end of the preseason. Once the first week of the real season starts they are guaranteed full salary.
