Should I start my defense no matter what?

Here's the deal.

I'm winning 131.5 to 127.2 going into Monday night. The team that I'm playing has no players left. I've still got Greg Olsen and the Panthers defense.

Here is my quandry. Should I start the Panthers defense....even though they (in a worst case scenario) get me negative points and lose the game? Or do I bench them (league allows not starting a defense) and basically ensure that I win.

Total points are (presumably) your league's tiebreaker, so start your D. The positive points from Olsen are insurance against an epically bad outing by Carolina.

Our tie breaker is total bench points......which I would win.

a) That's a reeruned tiebreaker, and

b) Then bench them both.

For Olsen to lose me the game.....he would have to finish with a stat line of 4 receptions for -80 yards

bench the defense, don't take unnecessary risks

Hootie 11-26-2012 12:43 PM

we play in a league, an obscure league, where you don't get any points unless you score a TD or hit a certain yardage plateau...for QB's it's 250 yards for 5 points, and 2 points for every 50 after that. -2 for picks.

Well this was the year of Rex Grossman...and in this league everyone has to roster 4 QB's (so the dude had Grossman's backup)...he was up by 6 going into MNF...and played Grossman against an opponent who was done...and Grossman turned in this performance (http://espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=261016022) during the Denny Green game and the guy lost by 2...for being a dumbass.

If its PPR, play Olsen no matter what – even if he fumbles, he has to register a catch to do it.

That would give you some breathing room in case there is an adjustment (just last Monday I was up 12 with only a Defense going, and my opponent had no one left, so I benched my D. There was eventually an adjustment that gave my opponent 2 more points.)

Yeah.....like I said....I'm going to start Olsen. For him to lose the game for me....he'd have to have a ridiculous negative stat line.

The only reason I asked the original question is because in one of the games this week....the guy who was winning had a 1 point lead going into the Sunday night game.....and the Packers defense lost it for him.

sounds like you know what to do.

Start Olsen only.. Take the guaranteed points and don't **** with a W.
