The first one is one of my favorite popcorn movies. I'd be happy if 2 just got close.

Basically this is going to be the kids of characters from the first take over.

Umm. If the aliens sent a message to them and it did not go through a wormhole it took 20 years also. So the aliens are 20 light years away. They may get here in 3 weeks. But then why did they not come sooner? They need to rework that. I understand losing one ship in space, the roswell one. Buut the aliens would have to wonder about a missing armada.

It does. The first one was good because it was a spectacle and had a bunch of CGI that had never been done before.

Actually, alot of the original movie was done with practical effects. It was right at the beginning of the CGI era, and at the tail end of practical effects.

Yeah. I remember watching something about that big fighter formation years ago and it was some big thing that hadn't been done before.
