Fastest Land Animals

We had a discussion at work about this subject yesterday . There was a lot of dispute about some animals, but research showed some interesting twists.

Without looking anything up on Google, put these animals in order from fastest to slowest. It's just a fun exercise.

Coyote
Quarter Horse
Wildebeest
Bison
Greyhound
White-tailed deer
Jack Rabbit

Edit: There's a 20 mph difference from fastest to slowest in the list.

It is tough. This was a 45 minute discussion over lunch. Yeah, we're a bunch of engineering nerds. Heh.

Everyone knows the cheetah is the fastest, so it's not on the list nor was it in the discussion.

I know for a fact Jack rabbits can do every bit of 50 MPH because I've chased many on a 4 wheeler .

Stewie 02-23-2013 11:52 AM

Part of this is perception by looking at the animal, much like the NFL combine. "He looks the part!"

Hog's Gone Fishin 02-23-2013 11:53 AM

3) Quarter Horse
7) White-tailed deer
5) Greyhound
6) Coyote
2) Jack Rabbit
4) Bison
1) Wildebeest

Assuming we're just talking top speed and not including acceleration, quickness etc here's my worst guess. :D

Jack Rabbit
Greyhound
Coyote
White-Tailed deer
Quarter Horse
Wildebeest
Bison

Yes, it's top speed.

u guys are serious not considering the predators.... A healthy-aged wilder beast can keep up with a lion. An since the fasted land animal is a cheetah I guess the following:

Wildebeest
Greyhound
Quarter Horse
Bison
Coyote
Jack Rabbit
White-tailed deer
