I am a "Till I die" supporter of Arthur bryants, you cannot change my mind unless you pay me and give me a lifetime supply of new sauce.
I have lived in New Jersey (raised in KC) for 10 years and NO ONE o ut here has a clue what good BBQ is. These people also believe Kansas City is in Kansas. I will tell you that I am a huge hit for BBQ's in my backyard, I typically do a "taste of KC" with Bryants, Gates and Jack Stack. I pay insane amounts to ship out God's BBQ sauce but it is well worth it. I miss the experience of going to Bryants. I will say that Jack Stack has been rising up the charts as of late, its a local favorite and my wife loves it. Maybe if I poured it on my.....wait...nevermind.....off topic... You should all feel proud and blessed to be in the BBQ capital of the world. Anyone who feels BBQ is King somewhere else (St. Louis / Memphis) should be stoned to death.. |
LC's all the way. I grew up right next to there and I remember when his smoker used to be in the parking lot. Great stuff there.

easy there big guy! I saw it on the list of 80 and I was just ask'n... ;) |
Anybody been to Big T's? I've driven by it several times but have never ventured in.
I usually send people to Jack Stack when they come into town the first time since it has a safe suburban feel and good food overall. I grew up on their food (Smokestack to Jack Stack). I like Gates sauce, but their meats are sometimes a bit chewy or tough. I like Bryants, but think their sauce is a bit of an acquired taste because of the texture. Johnny's in Olathe has excellent ribs. I always enjoyed Haywards if I wanted to get in and get out quickly. I've tried several of the other places, but never crave them. I like some better than others and will eat there, but never feel compelled to go out just to eat there. Edit - is there any way to get Famous Dave's off of this list. Blah. |
