I have the Asus 7700 and I RARELY run into a game I can't run on max settings. That being said I haven't played this yet as I don't own it. What is your Proc speed? hard drive speed? I run Skyrim on max settings with all the modded eye candy at 60 fps. For that matter what vid card do you have now?

You are correct, your vid card isn't too bad playing at high settings is good and should be better than consoles. Your Processor is holding you back a bit. I built my I7 when they first came out for around $550 and I had the Asus 5770 vidcard. I recently upgraded to the 7770 and never notice slow downs at all. I got lucky because Microcenter was running a special for like $139 for the I7.

Is the motherboard OK if I just upgrade the processor to a true quad core or should I upgrade the mobo too?

It wouldn't hurt to upgrade the MB as well, I'm going to assume that is DDR2 ram you have? Microcenter has a special going for MB+Chip+Ram combo or Just MB+Chip only.

Check here for AMD

or here for Intel

Or you could wait since your rig isn't really that bad. If you just buy the vid card now you can always use it later when you upgrade the proc/mb/etc

Ok like I said that isn't too bad, If it were me I would just buy a vidcard for now and upgrade that other stuff when Microcenter has their build your own computer sale. You could even splurge and get a $200 vid card and probably see a larger difference in speed.

The Asus cards are great for speed and longevity, the best Imho.

This game is outstanding. I like it better than Last of Us and dare I say, Uncharted.

Would I like it? I am not a fan of the old Tomb Raider series.

This is NOT the old Lara Croft. This is a complete reboot of the series and it is very well done. Trust me, for me to say this is potentially better than Uncharted is HUGE. I am really looking forward to the sequel for this Tomb Raider and I haven't even finished it yet.

I am very intrigued and vowed never to play this series after playing the first one from the 90's(? i think). I would definitely like to check it out though.

You can find $15 codes for this game all over ebay right now. Worth every single penny. Hell, this game actually has me wanting to spend money on my PC to upgrade the video card just so I can see the insane graphics it has.

I'll definitely check it out, not sure when since I've already spent a shitload on the steam sales..and they're not over yet. ;)
