What Happens If You Don't Change The Oil In Your Audi For 84,000 Miles....

What happens if you don't change the oil on your Audi TT for 84,000 miles? Take a look.

This turned up on Reddit's ever-excellent r/JustRolledIntoTheShop. There's no explanation for why this car was allowed to atrophy like this, but it's possible the person who uploaded this picture immediately recoiled in horror and had to go puke before posting anything further.

Here's the picture in high res.

Part of the reason I am always scared to buy a used car. Many people have no idea about basic maintenance and drive their cars hard.

The fact that it made it to 84k before failing is actually pretty impressive.

This.

Drove a cargo van for a job in college and mentioned to my manager a couple times that it sounded pretty rough... and when it finally seized up on the highway one day, they found out it had gone roughly 15,000 miles without an oil change. So yeah, 84,000 is quite impressive.

Presumably synthetic oil?

ThaVirus 03-22-2015 11:39 AM

An old boss of mine's wife drove some old ass Honda Civic. He said "once those cars hit 100k miles you don't even need to change the oil anymore"..

SAUTO 03-22-2015 11:39 AM

Looks like they used pennzoil

Eleazar 03-22-2015 11:51 AM

If it was still running then that's very impressive

mlyonsd 03-22-2015 11:56 AM

Wait, there's oil in cars?

Rain Man 03-22-2015 12:05 PM

My car uses synthetic oil and it's supposed to only be changed once every 10,000 miles. It makes me really nervous and I keep asking the dealer if it's time to replace it.

Needed some TLC.

Thats what I was thinking.
Looks just like the motor I had to tear down that belonged to a 'By God my dad always used penzoil and he never had any problems so thats why I'll always use penzoil' customers.
They had changed the oil and filter every 3000 miles from the day it was new. Penzoil 10-30. That truck made it to about 130,000 miles then it started making noise.
