If you have an air compressor - simply blow out the vent slots on both sides, this will 'free up' the fan, often dust and debris will lock these up.

I bet this will solve your issue.

Thanks SR. I tried that with my dad's minicompressor before I took it apart. There was nothing obstructing or a dust issue.

Speaking of which, and people may not even be aware of what I'm talking about, but I have the System Monitor II gadget, and it'll post CPU temp if you also run the CoreTemp app. But every time I try to run CoreTemp it completely freezes my system, every 2-3 minutes I can get the rick click on the desktop to come up, but nothing else. I have to shut it down via the power button on the case.

Did you try uninstalling the System monitor app and then running Coretemp.

You could also try Realtemp - http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/ or Speedfan - http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php both work well.

One thing to try is a Bios update.

Yep. Very unlikely that even 1 fan header is bad actually. Very simple circuit.

CoreTemp causes your system to freeze? That's very odd.

Dang, well ok, this happens to us from time to time - w/ the Thinkpads, but they always self correct after I do that.
