Best place to buy used smartphone?

My wife dropped her Iphone 4 in the toilet and is a year from upgrade discount. Unfortunately, she doesn't have insurance because she has had multiple claims and they won't insure her for a period of time.

Looking to buy a good condition (but cheap) droid or Iphone for Verizon.

Any recommendations?

I think I have one of these at home that you can have if I can find the charger and bits and pieces. I will look for it if you are interested. It is pretty old for a droid but it was a verizon phone, and if you are just looking to get through to the next one, it could tide you over. A year might be a bit long for this old model though.

Tell me about it. She is on call basically 24/7 so having a smartphone and all of its capabilities have become a major convenience and would be hard to go back. She's had some serious bad luck with her phones, not all her fault so she gets another shot before I dig out my old school Nokia

Ebay if you know what you're doing.

If you are looking to buy used on CL or eBay, I would recommend taking a look at the price reports on movaluate.com so you know how much to pay.

I've bought all of mine ( 3 )on e-bay, just watch what you are doing with the price. Easy to get into a bidding war, set your goal on a set price and shop around.

If you want to try to salvage the phone try this...lay it on a bed of uncooked rice and then cover it in uncocked rice for a few days. The rice draws the water out. Had a buddy use this trick and it worked.

Man, that might make some shitty rice.

FWIW, I have heard of this, do not know it it works.

It works... Put it in a sandwich bag with a bunch of rice for a week or so

absolutely works. My daughter dropped her iPhone in the toilet a couple years ago. I put it in rice for 3 days. Charged it up and it started right up. Worked fine for about a month and then she dropped it on the concrete and it shattered the screen.
