I have two US Army forts within 60 minutes drive. I'm sure I would head there, on horseback, along with the other thousands in the surrounding area.

they are going to be busy, I bet you will be ignored and the gates will be shut and armed guards will shoot if you try to breach them.

Perhaps, but outside of my in-laws farm, I have nowhere to go. Failing at Fort Pickett or Fort Lee would send me back there to hunker down to try to stay alive as long as I could. (After I off my asshole neighbor, of course).
