This one hits a little close to home.

Apparently the brilliant Torrance police shot at a couple of Asian dudes delivering papers. I'm not sure how you could mistake them for a big black guy.

But the helicopters were hovering almost right over my gym this morning. I was a little nervous the dude was going to come by on the run and take us all hostage. I wish I had known they were just hovering because of the accidental shooting.

If you're wondering why we're seeing all these crazies, it's the 24-hour news cycle and the internet. There's a virtual feeding frenzy whenever anything happens, wackos know their manifestos will get out and their faces will be plastered everywhere live and in living color, and for days/weeks/months after. It's a kind of fame and we all feed it. And the flip side is, if this happened 20 or 30 years ago, we might (but probably wouldn't) hear about it as a news blurb on the radio, but otherwise it would be a story talked about for a couple of minutes on a nightly news broadcast. You might not hear about it at all. There weren't twitter feeds or blogs or news networks constantly scrolling updates. Whereas today hours and hours will be dedicated to this story and others like it, every miniscule detail of it will be dissected by "experts" as we all try to info-tain ourselves to death. It's really kind of sick, the sort of gleeful gossip-driven environment we have these days.

I texted my loved ones, appraised them of the situation, told them to avoid the freeway and be very calm and cooperative if they get pulled over for something.

It's a good idea, but sometimes you get a little upset when you get pulled over. Especially if you don't think you were doing anything wrong, or even if you are just having a bad day. A lot of times your bad day can get a lot worse depending on how you interact with that police officer and how the cop reacts to you.

"Three law enforcement officers were shot early Thursday morning — one in Corona and two in Riverside — by a gunman believed to be Christopher Jordan Dorner, ... police said.
"A tweet from the official Twitter account of the Riverside Police Department says that at least one of the Riverside police officers shot in that city has died."

Update at 12:30 p.m. ET. More On Shots Fired At Others:

The Times now writes that "two women who were shot by Los Angeles police in Torrance early Thursday during a massive manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer were delivering newspapers, sources said. The women, shot in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue, were taken to area hospitals, Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase said." It appears they were in a blue pickup — a vehicle that generally matches the description of what the suspect is thought to be driving.

Crazy doesn't do verifiable names and details. Crazy tends to operate in nebulous truisms and 'protect people' who would have otherwise vindicated Crazy.

It's all that great police training. They're remaining cool under pressure.

Uh...yeah...I'm not in any way condoning their actions. Sometimes it helps to be a realist though. You might live longer or avoid shit that you really don't want to deal with that way.

Any explanation for the dozen ****ing bullet holes on the passenger side of the vehicle?

Dorner's goal appears to be to expose the LAPD as being corrupt and incompetent. Well he can damn sure chalk up the latter as Mission Accomplished.

Ah, OK. In that case maybe everyone in Cali should test drive a blue/grey pick up right now. Stop by the Toys R Us and grab a few realistic looking plastic guns, and don't forget to pick up your Big Scary Black Bald Guy rubber mask while you're in there. Take that puppy out on the freeway and see how fast she'll go. Yee haw!

I figure there's about a zero percent chance of him being taken alive. He better be unarmed with his arms in the air and 22 cameras pointed at him when they finally catch up to him, or he'll be swiss cheese.

And I really don't have a problem with that...
