This brings up a good point.

Will there be roster requirements, i.e. team must have at least 2 QBs, 4 WR, etc?

Hmm. Good question. I'm not sure exactly how the backups feed into the game model. I'll ping cdcox and ask him.

Your biggest risk will be the bye week.

I'm getting ready to spew off one of my rambling posts. Hold tight.

Ask about gameday inactives, too.

Also, as far as backups, I'm going to guess their impact is decided by how much you want them to play....perhaps we'll be entering the percentage of snaps?

No it won't work that way. Each player has a week labeled 1-16 that corresponds to the weeks his team is scheduled to play. If he plays in his team's week, he is available in your league for that week. If he sits due to injury in his team's 8th game, he sits during Sandbox week 8.

Sent you a proposal for your initial offer. I apparently suck at negotiating.

Ha!

I am gonna sit on the pick hoping that ONE player drops to me.. someone I can't pass on. If he gets taken in next hour then I'll approve the trade, otherwise I will have to pass and take the guy who should have been long gone by now.

Exactly. He'll be fine the other 16 weeks. It's when he has a week off that you should be worrying.

Ok, here is how depth fits in. Not sure if I'll get all of this implemented in year 1.

A lot of teams rotate their DL to keep them fresh. If you play a DL the whole game, he might wear down in the 4th quarter.

RB don't seem to run down during a game, but you can burn out a RB by giving him too many carries over a season. I'm thinking about an extra penalty in the Sandbox game if a running back gets too many carries in the Sandbox game the year before.

You are going to need extra corners if you want to run nickle and dime packages. You need the right personnel to run various offensive sets. You may want to have a base defense and different personnel for obvious passing situations.

You might need extra personnel to cover injuries. Here is what I'm thinking about for injuries. If your starter goes down and your backup player got a significant number of real NFL stats, you can plug him in and we'll simulate the Sandbox player based on those NFL snaps he ran. If you have a backup that plays the right position but had only a few or no snaps, we will simulate them as a typical NFL backup player. If you have an injury during the season and you don't have a backup that plays the position, you have to go out and get a nameless "street free agent". This guy won't play very well.

You can't dip into the free agent pool for talent during the season, so you better stock your roster with sufficient depth that you don't need to start a "street free agent".

Backups can also be valuable developmental players. if we can get owners to keep their team year after year, eventually people that can spot developmental talent will rise to the top of their league.

If that isn't enough constraints to keep people relatively honest about the distribution of positions across their roster, I might put minimums at each position, but I'd rather give people flexibility for now.

No simulating for backups based on previous seasons?

Actually, I'm guessing that would be impossible implement.

I thought of that, I doubt it adds much information. Plus guys get old and don't play as well as in the past.

Well, I got the guy I wanted.. Austin Collie at #298. If he stays healthy, that is a steal.
