With a different/better QB.

I'm just saying this has the sound of deja vu. So many times players are hyped year and year based on physical talent, but they never really produce on the field. I think Cook is one of those guys.

Even though you're basically talking to yourself in these threads they're always a pretty good read, Direckshun.

Would be nice to know how many teams in your league and any non-standard rules whenever I look at your fantasy team lineup.

10 teams.

All rules are standard.

Either way, he's been going way late in drafts. If your league has more than 5 bench slots, it's well worth it to draft a 2nd TE like Cook, even if you have Graham/Gronk.

The TE pool is exceptionally shallow right now in this league.

Would you rather start Cook or Fred Davis?

I'd rather roll the dice and start Cook. Stagnant shit-eaters like Davis just aren't my thing. It's how I roll.

It's like you and I are the same person sometimes.

I should have named my FF team Stagnant Shit Eaters.

Direckshun 08-31-2012 11:32 AM

Speaking of stagnant shit eaters, today is another fantasy draft in my other, non-big-money league.

This league is significantly less important to me. I'll include updates but I'm not going to be invested in it like I am the big money league.

My strategy:

The draft is top heavy in WRs, middle-heavy in QBs and RBs, and bottom-heavy in TEs and Ds.

Try to get a franchise RB in the first round.

Go heavy on WRs soon after.

Pad the RB position and get a Tier 3 QB in the midrounds.

Invest in high upside everything late in the draft.

Take a TE and a D late, only when the value presents itself. No reaching.

Direckshun 09-01-2012 09:53 AM

Welp, the draft came and went, and I officially hate this league.

Live draft, half the people were late. Two were half an hour late. One was a no show and we had to put them on an autodraft. Three people showed up with no big board whatsoever, and just named players off the top of their heads. About half the time in the last four rounds of the draft, we were telling drafters that the guy they wanted was drafted -- sometimes many, many rounds ago.

Some of the picks were just freaking bizarre. This was not very fun, not as much fun as my big money league, and frankly it was a waste of two hours.

To make matters worse, I drafted 10th out of 10. Which I've never done before, but I came away with a pretty decent team regardless. I think, based on my projections, it's only the third best team in the league. But we'll see how I fare.

Frankly, I'm predicting no fewer than three teams in this league become ghost teams. A good collection of people. But just a shit league.

QB
Michael Vick, Eagles
Matt Ryan, Falcons
Tim Tebow, Jets

RB
Darren McFadden, Raiders
Jamaal Charles, Chiefs
Cedric Benson, Packers
Mark Ingram, Saints

WR
Julio Jones, Falcons
Victor Cruz, Giants
Antonio Brown, Steelers
Darius Heyward-Bey, Raiders
Austin Collie, Colts

TE
Jared Cook, Titans

K
Jason Hanson, Lions

Def
New York Giants

The running backs department is obviously where I'm a bit concerned, but I passed on stocking up on another RB in order to draft Tebow in the 14th.

Anyway. Just getting this on the record.

Back to the real show, the big money league.

1. MJD is back. Fan****ingtastic, I feel wonderful having Rashad Jennings on my bench now, considering he'll be getting approximately 0% of the workload by the time I'd need him for byes. I've scoured the scrap heap, and here's the best we've got this year (excluding Redskins and Patriots RBs, because Shanahan and Belichek are not to be trusted):

Ryan Williams
Pierre Thomas
LeGarrett Blount
Ronnie Brown
Kendall Hunter
Robert Turbin

I think that Hunter might be the safe bet right now, considering that Frank Gore can never get through a season. Pierre Thomas is really the only other guy worth serious consideration here, if the Saints finally give up on Mark Ingram.

At this point, I'm sticking with Jennings. But if there is an injury to a key back at any point, I'm all over the backup like a fly on shit.

2. Somebody just dropped Titus Young in order to pick up Josh Freeman? I don't understand this move, seeing how this owner is already stocked with Matt Stafford and Peyton Manning.

Nonetheless, I consider Titus Young an upgrade over Kendall Wright in every way. They are similar players, but Young (a.) isn't a rookie, (b.) plays with a better QB, (c.) benefits from defenses keying on Calvin Johnson, who (d.) is about to suffer from the Madden Curse this year.

I love Titus Young, and just put in a claim for him.

Direckshun 09-02-2012 08:04 PM

Adrian Peterson is a game time decision.

Bodes poorly for my opponent, who pretty much has to start him. His only other RB is Willis McGahee, who is facing the Steelers.

Ryan Williams will be the main ballcarrier over Beanie by the end of the season.

Pick him up or you're an idiot.

Probably has to deal with the fact that Beanie is one big injury prone puss.

Direckshun 09-03-2012 10:04 AM

It is an interesting question...

Both are backups behind a guy who will get 90% of the work.

Both are in shit offenses with shit quarterbacks.

Williams starts behind a guy who is injury prone.

Jennings doesn't, but he's behind a guy who is definitely an injury risk this season with the holdout.

Research will need to be done.
