Has any other president faced the public disagreement Obama has?

Yes I think he is an embarrassment and a worthless shitbag. Now that we got that out of the way...

Several states have had citizens sign petitions to secede from the United States. Several law enforcement people have said they will not enforce new gun laws. Several states tried to sue over Obamacare. So has there ever been a president get the finger so openly in our history?

PaulAllen 02-06-2013 05:50 PM

Didn't he win the popular vote?

No state has petitioned to "succeed" from the US. Or secede.

That re-election was quite a finger.

He's definetly been mocked. The question is if it is justifed.

But as for never witnessing a president so openly mocked--how old are you, 5 years old?

I really think you don't have a firm grasp on what several words mean. You call me disengenuous while supporting the argument that a gun and a spoon are the same thing.

Now you call me a troll while you start a thread having no point other than to say Obama is a "worthless shitbag."

You made a dumb statement about state petitioning to secede, and I guess that finger Obama got was the one pointing him back to the White House.

You're not smart enough to pull off this act.

I think Clinton as mocked and criticized more than Obama. Clinton was impeached and was extremely unpopular with the Right, even though he actually delivered a budget surplus that grew every year he was in office.

He was hammered true, but it was more of a DC thing. I don't recall it being so wide spread through out the country. I could be wrong, which is why I raised the question~

Well, you do know that all revenue bills originate in the House under our Constitution right?
That could have a lot to do with that, if'n you want to believe there was a surplus of sorts.
The least you can say about Clinton, is that he had experience working with a more conservative legislature. So he was able to deal with his Republican Congress. Obama has no such experience and has never been an executive, which is frankly a leadership position.

Another reason, why I prefer a divided govt. Unfortunately Presidents get all the credit.

How many presidents have you seen in your adult life? 5? 6? Get some perspective dude.

loochy 02-06-2013 07:31 PM

It's getting worse because the divide is getting worse. Neither side reaches out to the other and stances on issues are simply determined by completely opposing the other viewpoint. This country is in dire need of something to unite over, but the politicians actively work to divide the country.

It's the peoples fault. They vote for the hard liner. If they don't vote hard line, they get primaried and never heard from again.

Until both sides vote for moderates and compromise is no longer a firable offense......... it will stay the same.

Nixon

Are you asking about being openly mocked and made fun of or actively opposed by people joining together to fight against policy? I think there is a difference.

The former Obama isn't close to being mocked or made fun of as much as Bush, the latter you might have a point.

Doesn't him being so seemingly openly blasted probably have more to do with the social media and ease and quickness with which we hear every little thing that is put out there on the internet from so many sources and the fact that basically anyone has an open forum to criticize?

No rejection stings as much as the sting of re-election. WTF are you talking about? A very loud, obnoxious, and ignorant minority does not equal rejection.

I would agree. There's no way one could compare this to the vietnam era and think that the level of public outrage is higher now.

WilliamTheIrish 02-06-2013 08:40 PM

No. I don't think it's any different than the ridiculous shit people claimed about W.

And it's definitely not as bad as the shellacking Clinton took. But media has changed so much in the last 5-7 years. Hundreds more news outlets, social media and the like bring you more opinion than ever.

So, I don't think it's that much different than the Clinton presidency.

At one point, Truman had a 22% approval rating. Andrew Johnson was made a puppet and, when he tried to forge his own way, he was impeached. Tyler was vilified by his own party and expelled from their ranks. Buchanan pissed everyone off so hard that the Civil War started.

So, yeah, there are plenty that were worse.

As far as opposition from individual states and law enforcement goes, what Obama is facing now doesn't even come close to what Kennedy faced when trying to desegregate Southern universities.

Direckshun 02-07-2013 07:00 AM

I haven't read the thread, but no.

The scope of the disagreement Obama's faced has been pretty small, since his approval ratings are at his second-highest peak ever.

The intensity by which people disagree with him takes me back, but it's hard for me to tell how much of that disagreement is over the issues, and how much of it is just conservatives disagreeing with him because he's him.

That said, Obama's been surpassed by previous Presidents on all those grounds mentioned in the OP. Including states wanting to secede. Since, you know, back in the 1800s, about half the country actually did.

You've obviously chosen to ignore the intense hatred the far Right had towards Bill Clinton. Why is that? Is there some agenda you're trying to push?

Everything isn't about race. It's often just about extreme positions.

The idea that Obama has refused to compromised or has not frequently sought Republican approval is laughable.

People didn't like Bush2 just because he was from Texas. So you're saying being from Texas has nothing to do with a lot of far left radicals hate for the (then) POTUS? Being from Texas only plays a part when people voted FOR the POTUS and nothing to do with why some voted against him ?
