Need a new home theater system
 

It appears my current system is on its last legs...Its about 8-9 years in age. What do you guys recommend?

You're going to have to give us more info than that. Price range, how many speakers, how many components, etc.

If you want a truly awesome home theatre system, you're not going to want to buy a kit, but rather the receiver and speakers separately.

Onkyo is a good brand, can't go wrong with Bose speakers either.

Buying a HTIB ( Home theater in a box) is perfectly acceptable for non-audiophiles or people with budget restrictions. The key is make sure you will be able to switch out the speakers and/or receiver later when you have more money.

I bought a Onkyo HTIB 8 years ago. Still runs great. I now have 3 Onkyo 5.1 and and 7.2 systems. I'd do research on the receiver included as I'm very happy with my 5.1s but the 7.2 overheats like crazy.

you have to register to "join the club". I think they give you like $10 free for joining.

I have the Onkyo HT RC 360. its 7.2 ch compatible, I've had success with it so far. you can connect it to your home network and play music on various PCs through DLNA, it also connects to Pandora, wpotify, slacker, and various other internet radio sources. It's the model from a few years ago, but I only paid like $300 for it. The internet connectivity is a great feature, and I'm sure its very common now, but its something you should look for in a receiver.

Price range? Are you happy with htib? Some you can upgrade parts over time.

Stay away from bose.

If you are on a budget then Denon with Boston Acoustic speakers are the way to go. Sells as a kit for around 500-600 $$. Awesome subwoofer and you really feel like you are at the theater. I did my research on this for a long time and priced and compared the sound of all the kits that sold from 250 - 400$$ and they just didn't have subwoofer power for those action packed scenes which is what you want. You want your ass rumbling and this Denon/Boston kit DID JUST THAT WITH EASE. The magnets in these speakers were very heavy which is good unlike the cheaper kits. For the exorbitant price you would pay for a BOSE and the price you would pay for this Denon/Boston kit there was very little difference in sound for me to justify paying an extra grand just to say I own BOSE but then some people's egos are about keeping up appearances.

I forgot to mention I had a friend who bought a 2500.00 Bose system 1 month prior to my purchase of the Denon/Boston kit. When he heard mine he took his Bose back and saved 2K:clap: That's how good this system is if you want top quality at an affordable price.

Receivers: Can't go wrong with Onkyo, Yamaha, Pioneer, Denon

Speakers: Audiogon.com has great deals on used speakers, where you can get quality for cheap. Used speakers are nothing to be afraid of. If you don't like that, you can get some quality Klipsch and Polk towers/centers/surrounds on places like Newegg.com for cheap.

Sub: Dayton subs are the best you can do on a budget for a new sub if you aren't going to build your own.

Bose blows ass, that's why. It's not difficult to sound better than that.

I bought an LG soundbar. It can stream bluetooth wireless devices.
