FDA prohibiting contact lenses

I've needed contact lenses my whole life and my prescription has been the same for 15 years now. I wish to hell I could just go into Walgreens and buy my contacts over the counter. Thanks to the stupid FDA though, thats prohibited. Anyone had any luck ordering contacts from the UK or Canada?

So it's prescription only now?

Can't you just take your script into Walmart or Costco? Those places have eye centers. If you need a new script, doesn't your basic health insurance cover the eye exam? I know it's a pain, but better safe than sorry.

costco is super cheap compared to other places for glasses...not sure about lenses tho...

And that's just a few

Always email my script to 1 800 contacts. Don’t believe contacts can be purchased without a less than one year old prescription.

yeah, I thought it was a year or 18 months that you could get them with the current prescription. If it's older, you got to get a new one. It's been that way for quite a while from what I remember but mine have been covered under insurance the past 15 years or so along with an annual exam so I haven't really dug deep into it. Really only come across it when they tell me the prescription is too old.

I think he just wants to avoid the eye exam.

Yeah it has been this way for a while. That's what I'm saying. It's a pain to have to get an exam every year my whole life. It isn't a big deal really. Just wish I could take care of my own eyes. I'll get a new exam when I feel I need one.

Can't you buy more than one years' worth when you get your exam?

Nope. The places I've ordered from and tried this have called/emailed me noting that I'm ordering more than 12 months worth and my prescription is only good until X date. It's a total racket. When you prescription hasn't changed in 20 years I don't understand this requirement.
